There's also a GT-R and Honda tuner just around the corner from Fujita Engineering on the main road there, called "Racing Service - Factor", friendly guys, worth a visit if you're in the area.
We went there in the last series, owner wasn't to keen on us tbh! which is fair, I bought a sticker though haha

Man this is just the tip of the iceberg for classic minis in Japan! You should check out some of the awesome mini specialty shops, I have a map of them if you want
Really want to dip into it, but would love to get a few mates over who are obsessed with these to feed off of their excitement, they really know how to do them right out there
I'm in nz and in 2007 my friend bought an s14 kouki that was a kakimoto shop car. It was non turbo and high reving. An incredible machine. It didn't survive past 2008 though.😢
Damn thats a shame, much like a lot of stuff back then, always loved the note from their exhausts and the style and branding

I got overtook by classic merc, who got pulled over a couple of miles down the road 😄 then got overtook by a white fd nearer Yokohama in a tunnel. I live in Japan as well. I'm not sure the exact dates of your trip, considering you were still hit with quarantine, I'm guessing early 2023, but I'm guessing everyone was apprehensive about you visiting their shops because they were still 1000% in on mask fever and it looks like you guys weren't wearing masks. There was also a widely held belief that foreigners were more likely to catch and spread covid. Just really medieval level thinking.
The level of paranoia the Japanese government fed to people here was insane and sad.
On the Minis though: maybe not well known but most of the late 90s Mini production went to Japan. They stayed popular here for a long time.
Yeah we figured that out towards the middle of the trip when a few people informed us of what was going on at the time, this was April 2023, so right at the end of it all, fascinating to know about the Minis
