  • The roofing craftsmen arrive on site after the builders have put plywood and a building membrane over the roof.
The standing seam roof from Roofing Industries comes in long run 450mm wide trays with a 45mm rib profile for aesthetic shadow lines.
Each sheet is manually cut to the correct length. Then folded to create the right edge at each end. The roofers use their new Schechtl bender on-site to create a precise factory finish to the sheets.
The long run sheets go up quickly. The standing seam edges snap together with a reassuring clunk. Then each sheet has hidden fastenings connecting it to the underlying wooden battens. There is a little space between the roofing sheets and the ply to provide a space for the house to breathe.
Compression foam and netting is used behind the sheets to encourage the sheets into an arch to avoid waviness in the sheets (known as oil canning).
The roofers are on-site - off and on - over 10 months. Working first on the bedroom pavilion wing, then the other wing. And then later to clad details like the ridge line, edges, and sides of the building. Not to mention tricky areas like around our entranceway.
