Nostalgic... some classmates used to sell balikutsa or Tira2 when I was in grade school (80s) or barter with paper . It was wrapped in red Japanese paper... Would love to visit that place when I go home just to taste it again !

Chilling. Ganda nung outdoor kitchen with high ceiling. Plus tuko sa ceiling, akala ng hubby mo birds having hiccup daw ... Kakaloka.
The sound you heard while cooking the candy was from a Gecko and in the Bisaya dialect we call it "Tuko" because it sounds like it is saying the word "Tuko".
We call it Latik coconut candy

Peanut Kisses is one of the best and in demand Boholano pasalubong. They are a type of peanut cookies shaped like the chocolate kills. They can be bought in malls specifically in Alturas and ICM if you want to get them for a cheaper price. If you buy them in seaports or the airport they would be much more expensive.
Balicucha brings back childhood memories for many Boholanos because before they are sold in schools as candy. My grandma would make it with the leftover mascovado sugar and coconut milk from making Biko. It's actually difficult to get the timing to get a softer texture because if you heat higher temperature it might turn into hard candy and sometimes become crunchy hahhah.

I would always ask my brother to send me a big bag of balikutsa from Sta. Maria, Ilocos Sur to the States. I use it as a sweetener for my tea, coffee or for any recipes that would call for sugar. ❤️
Balikutsa/Balikutcha is actually a delicacy of both Visayas and Mindanao. It's a well loved candy as it's cheap and yummy.
