Ryan Rishaug and Pierre LeBrun join Gino Reda on 7-Eleven That's Hockey to discuss the Edmonton Oilers being just one win away from advancing to the second round of the NHL playoffs.
This series hasn’t been close. The oils worst defensive game ended up in OT game 2. Oil were in complete control in game 4 - definition of bending not breaking and capitalizing on chances. Hell the high danger scoring changes were way more even. Acting like the kings have anything but a punchers chance is dishonest imo.
I feel that both teams have been playing pretty equally generally. But when it comes down to the moments where it REALLY counts defensively + offensively, the oilers have come through more than the kings.
Worse defending was not in OT, it was a fluky pass that bounced off byfield ended up on Kopi’s stick. Very fluky bro, if that Ot went on for a just a few more mins oilers would’ve scored. Oilers don’t have a problem looking for a goal, the kings issue is that if they don’t score goals right away they never will. That’s the difference & the reason oilers will win game 5 & end the series
@@spectralflop823 Brother I am on the same train as you lol. Kings score more goals from turnovers and flukes "I'm on thehalf-boards let me throw it at the net and pray" goals than anyone else.
@@Pfuetz4 yes I’m more referring to game 2 and 4. I think when watching it, no team LOOKED to be dominating at any point until the oilers were dominating and the score sheet proves that. But all in all, as an oilers fan, I’m not scared of the kings this year. Everything they’ve done, the oilers have proved they can do it better.
Oiler's are becoming the last Canadian hope for a cup return this year, all the other ones, have a real struggle ahead and it's not looking good for them.
@@Nickh4929 true, they've also been outshot in every game, the most shots Vancouver has had in a game against Nashville so far is 21. Puck luck is beating Nashville right now. Not the Canucks. If that changes, Vancouver could be in trouble.
It’s well know the ice in LA is mush, the Oilers wisely just accepted it and played a conservative style to win. Lots of just chipping the puck out of their own zone. Game 5 they will be back to their high flying offence and easily score 4 or 5 goals. I predict 5-2 final score, Oil moving on. Kings just a speed bump.
Lemieux is a terrible comparison he was purposely dirty and a coward when players tried to hold him accountable! Turtling on the ice like no one ever! Kane will play and fight through the consequences. Anyone comparing him to Lemieux had Lebrun's Habs rose coloured glasses on! May be the most inaccurate comparison ever wow!! The dirtiest and most cowardly player of his day!
As an Oiler fan I don't think I can say we dominated Game 4. Yes we won, but it wasn't our defense, it was stuart. 33 vs 13 shots, why is the narrative that the Oilers had a good game. We got a game stolen by good goaltending for once. I think if we play like that for the next 3 games we lose the series. Honestly that was a terrible game for us.
if your only metric for the 5 guys in front are shots then you're off base. The 33 shots skin got were clear, shots that weren't overly high danger. they played a solid defensive game, maybe they could balance it a bit more towards offense but it worked this way too and that's good to see.
I didn't go to bed and when I look at the natural stat trick website it seems to me that we were worse in almost every category. I realize this is not a perfect stat but it generally encompasses a few other stats and puts them together if you want more details take a look yourself. LA expected goals for was 3.03 while Edmonton was 1.01. Seems like we got good goaltending for once. But if LA plays like that they will win nine times out of ten.
@@LukasTheBlue Oilers Defense was spectacular not just the D core but the forwards as well. They locked it down after the one goal patiently waited for their chances. Forced Kings to take Perimeter shots. Corralled and cleared rebounds right away. Skinner played very well, but he didn't have to stand on his head. Don't think I saw him have take even one second save.
Only time will tell if they slam the door on a finger or a toe instead of LA.. Oilers have been PP Merchants outscoring Skinners poor performances...its what I am still seeing. IMHO if the Kings deliver the puck to Skinner a bit more than they send it then things could fold in on Skinner rather quickly.
Nonsense analysis! Without draisaitl and historical perfectly pass to bouchbomb instead of of taking a onetimer was the main reason for their goal! Every LA defender thought drai takes the shot and moved to in his direction - di Bouchard had a shot! Draisaitl is the man with the IQ, the man who wins the the face off and who protects the puck. By the 6 goals un game 3 Draisaitl was at 5 of them on the ice! And his line is with Kane and Nuge is by far the best and most dangerous line right now! But your TV only prays McDavid, Kane and all the others! I hope drai will leave the Oilers, it's a shame how disrespectful the media to him is!
I dislike these series. Only opinions, no data or any real context to the words they say. I wish TSN was better. 5v5 is not even. Edm has a 56% xG rate. That's not even. They lead the NHL with over 63% at all strengths. LA has very struggled at protecting the slot and shooting from the slot. Edm leads the league in both categories too this playoffs.
Kane was a free agent pick up . They didn't trade for him
I sure hope the Oilers. Can shut the door on the Kings. Another great game from Skinner..and the Boyz. Go Oilers Go.
Thanks for the report from the trenches Shauger

Nice of Tsn to let Rishaug leave his living room!
If they don't come out a lot more physical, it's going to be difficult.
Opposite is true for the kings. They've been hitting instead of playing hockey for the whole series.
The Kings can play any style they desire. The Oilers have an answer for any game they choose as this series has shown.

The fact they use Craig Button as a top expert tells you all you mean to know! Gino needs to do Jays games or something.
