  • During your orthodontic treatment, you may also need to use other orthodontic appliances along with your braces. Elastics, also known as inter-arch rubber bands, have a different purpose than the wires that straighten your teeth. Elastics are used during the bite alignment stage of your orthodontic treatment. The elastics apply pressure to the teeth to correct the bite.

But my upper canine (right side, back surface) is sliding over lower canine (front surface). So is this v shaped elastic is effective for this problem?

    Hello! I got my elastics earlier today and my orthodontics says 'every 8 hours' and I am now contemplating what she meant for that, I was dumb I didn't had any follow-up questions maybe I am just shy. Does she means to change the rubber every 8 hours? Am I still need to wear the elastics 24/7? Please if anyone of you read this and know the answer please do I would really appreciate.

    If you want your lower jaw to grow forward, can it be achieved?

    • @OrthodonticExperts
      @OrthodonticExperts  Před 4 lety +4

      Depending on how elastics are used, they can pull the upper jaw back or bring the lower jaw forward. Elastics can help move your lower jaw forward if needed, this would be consider Class II elastics. In more severe cases, you might need to use Forsus. To learn more about Forsus you can check out this video: czcams.com/video/mJz-aALZgD0/video.html

    • @OrthodonticExperts
      @OrthodonticExperts  Před 4 lety +2

      You can wear elastics for a Class I, Class II and Class III bite. Elastics are used to align the jaw which means they can be used if your top and bottom teeth are not align correctly. From the information you have provide, it sounds like you could have a posterior open bite which can sometimes cause your bite to not be complete on both sides. In this case, you would need to wear posterior box elastics to settle in the bite. We recommend a doctor to view your specific case to confirm this before undergoing treatment. Hope this helps!

    • @orange_turtle3412
      @orange_turtle3412 Před rokem

      They fix your jaw alignment. If you have overbite or underbite (either the top or bottom jaw is too far forward), the bands will apply pressure to your jaws to acclimate them to the proper position. So eventually, if you wear them long enough, the jaw will naturally retain its proper position.

    • @OrthodonticExperts

      Depending on what you need for your specific treatment, you may need to wear elastics differently. In the video we show how an orthodontist will typically use elastics but your orthodontist may use them differently. Always use them how your orthodontist has recommend! If you have concerns, please reach out to your orthodontist and confirm that the way you have been instructed to use them is correct. Hope that helps!

    • @orange_turtle3412

      Depends on what bands ur using I assume. The point of changing them is because rubber bands lose elasticity over time, which reduces how effective they are. If the specific type of band you have retains elasticity for longer, you dont really have to swap them out as much.
