Rodriguez makes the Adventure model called the UTB. I purchased a demo UTB last year and it’s a very capable touring any road design. R&E is maybe the most versatile builder in the USA . Russ , it’s time for you to get a custom dream bike , and put R&E on the list of builders who can rise to the challenge.
Thanks for this interview/visit! As a result, I visited R&E Cycles and walked out having ordered a touring bike with a Rohloff hub with climbing gears (and some other goodies)! I've had the bike since March 2022 (it's now October 2022), and I love it! I'm not a mechanically inclined person, so the simplicity of the Rohloff enables me to ride hills that used to defeat me. Since I live in western Washington, negotiating hills is essential. My only criticism is the long-known tendency for shift hang when shifting down from 8 to 7. I've learned how to cope with it, but it would be nice if that shift were as smooth as all the rest. Interestingly, the 8-7 shift is the point between relative silence and the 'whirr' of the lower gears. I think I'd also prefer a shifter I could use just one digit to operate. But that said, the bottom line is, I LOVE THIS BIKE! Having a bike that fits my long arms/legs and short trunk makes a huge difference in comfort, and the infinite shifting is great! Before your video, I was unaware of R&E, so THANK YOU for the informative report on an excellent 'local' company! BTW, will you be doing any segments on other shifter options for Rohloff and Pinion bikes???
Excellent shop tour. I visited there in 2000 and was very impressed. A lot of great people have worked there over the years. So glad to see them continue today.
My first career was as a machinist, so I found the explanation of the development of the unique, proprietary jigs etc. really interesting.
i always respect the most the videos of small builders, small business is the way to go
Interesting visit, one of the US custum bike shops i noticed was praised highly on usenet in the late nineties for their ultra light steel frames.
One of your best pieces. Can’t wait to see what you think of the bike.
My hometown, Seattle! It's so great to see you two there. Be sure to make a stop at Pike Place Market for a flying salmon....
I've had two bikes made at Rodriguez... a single and a tandem... and Dan was super patient, thorough and answered questions as needed/wanted. I've always wanted to see the shop but haven't had a reason to travel to Seattle, so this is fun to get to see it here! Looking forward to seeing what you think of the Phinney.
I have a Rainier model with travel couplings that I bought two years ago, and have put over 1500 miles on it in four countries. I love it so much!
WOW !!! THAT WAS AWESOME !!!! THANK YOU FOR TAKING US THERE !!! 👍🚲🔥
Very interesting tour. Great looking bike that you are getting to ride Russ.
Awesome.... you guys are my go to channel for supple life awesomeness...
Never heard of Rodriguez Bikes till now. Amazingly instructive video!! Super excellent!!! This..is what makes you unique!! Thanks.
Rodriguez - Awesome. Thanks for the tour!
Ah, a shop I've known about for years. We used to visit the shop in the evenings and watch slide presentations and story sessions from Willie Wier and Angel Rodriguez. They certainly inspired many of our bicycle journeys over the years. I'm glad you guys got a chance to explore that little slice of history.
So glad to see this shop getting some love!!
Thanks for this!
My search for a builder is over!
Kim Rice , what model will you be getting?
ttiwehde researching
Same
What a cool shop!
Love Rodriguez! Such a great shop and builders.
incredible! beautiful shop there the bikes look finely crafted by loving bicycle artisans magical video
That is great to see the "little guy" still in business after many years competing with the "big box stores" I wish I had the money for a nice custom bike! And I was just in Seattle walking around a few weeks back :-( Looking forward to your review! Thanks!
Bro that is a SWEEEEEET RIDE!!!🔥🔥🔥🚴
Best video I've seen today.
Quality as always. You should have more subs. 👍
You need to get a gimble! I'm dizzy - LOL. But seriously, a friend just got a Rodriguez, so jealous. She had a great experience with them and is very happy with the bike.
Great video! I would love to see you review the Rodrigues 6-Pack bike? I hope you got a chance to see one if they even have one on display? Anyway, its an awesome ss travel micro.
Yeah. A customer came in with one. Had to edit it out tho since it didn't fit with the larger story.
Great story. From owner to craftsman what a magic place. As a machining factory rat in the tool room from my youth, I could just smell the acetylene and gear oil. And oh, in the comments I saw the make an adventure bike. Following.
As a welder, this is so freaking cool!
Wow, very cool :)
Love these shop tour videos . Also, are Dan's parents Steven Wright and Robert De Niro?
Wow!!! Rodriguez...finally!!! Been reading their site for years! :)
I wish they did some modern touches on these things like internal cable routing.. for the ~$2.5k premium they charge for the frame you can get some pretty high end alternatives
@@tawanga my Rodriguez Rainier was $3750 with tektro rim brakes and 105 (nothing special)
There are some problems with internal cables. (worse performance, rattling noise, harder to do maintenance, harder to repair, harder to replace w/ off-the-shelf equipment, etc) I think their philosophy is to use "tried and true" technology rather than hopping onto new technologies just because they are "modern".
Had our custom tandem built by the boys at Rodriguez and couldn't be happier. Check them out!
I really need to see the wheels for the quint bike
Are you still planning to post a review of the Phinney Ridge?
Yes. Scheduled for November.
Mitering for a whole frame in an hour. Thats quick
someone not so happy with the tandem @1:40?
No idea what your referring to.
