  • Checking in from St. Patrick’s School in Yellowknife. I took a little walk around this area and recalled some old places and familiar names. I went to St. Patrick’s School from Grade 3 to Grade 8/9. Wonderful memories!
Just another short video of another place or area in Yellowknife, a trip down memory lane for many and a short glimpse into Yellowknife life for those that are new to Yellowknife or haven’t been here yet.

Feel free to leave comments about this video, did you live in one of the houses I showed? Did you go to St. Pat’s also? Who were your teachers? Classmates? I would love to hear your stories as well.
Until the next video, stay safe, travel safe and be kind to others.
    Masi,
    Joe 🤗

Great video. Love your energy and story telling. We lived in the teachers duplexes/housing for 3 years and I knew every inch of the those rocks lol. Went through grades 2 to 12, and was part of the final grad class (95) before the schools were torn down. Funnily enough we visited the family of Gorgio’s when wine touring in Kelowna last month. Roberto Fiume and family have started a winery called Ciao Bella that I encourage all Northerners to visit if they get the chance. Looking for to more videos and story telling Joe!

I had Ms. Mills in grade 10 in 86/87. We loved in Anderson Thompson tower.
This brings back alot of memories! Thanks for this.

Hello Joe. Thank you so much for such a wonderful visit to my old hometown. Without seeing tour video I would never have dreamed how Yellowknife has changes and developed. Our last visit was in the early '90s. Good To see good developement but also a little sad to see such change. YK will always be home. St. Pat's & SJF were my schools too in 1957-1961. We even had à smoking room at SIR JOHN school!
My Mom (Lil Hourigan) rests in peace there. Recently lost my sister Kay De Corte who I think you know from Dino.
    I love you all.

Hello Joe , your video's brings back a lot of memories..there is a couple of items that stand out that you forgot to mention on your tour of St Pat's area..one is Sheba the lion , who was kept in a house a couple of doors down from Mabroda's house..this was around 1976 to 1978...she was there in 1977 when my family moved to YK, but had to be relocated to the south due to some new bylaw made specifically to remove her..
The other was ( Walter?) Schidlowski's bicycle repair shop that was located near where the bus lane is now.

Love these videos Joe! Lived in Yellowknife '62-'66. Could you do a tour of...I think it was 54th St....what was known as the DOT block? At the foot of the sliding hill, a block or so from St Pat's Church and the old St Pat's elementary school.

Georgio's was the best. We'd stock shelves for Cosmina, and they'd feed us focaccia in return.
Vern Dodds... issued my my arctic 5 star sleeping bag and grey goose parka.

I can't believe how that area has changed, nothing is familiar but of course the St. Pat's School was down the street from the Bay not far from the Catholic Church (which is still there) next door to my brother's B& B. My girlfriend Marilyn lived around the corner from the school and Nun's residence.
