    I married my wife in 1994 and one of our wedding gifts was an ornament like the beautiful one you just made. It still hangs in our window today. I know yours will be someone’s heirlooms for decades to come. Thanks

    Thanks for turning a very nice ornament. It is just beautiful. Where can I find the bird that you put in the cage and what were the dimensions of the piece you turned for the finial, then what were the finial dimensions of the finial. Thanks for demonstrating this good piece

      The bird is called a mushroom bird. Can be purchased from Amazon. The dimensions of the cube are approximately 2.25x 2.35x2.25” the finial is about 4 to 5”.

    A freakin open end wrench... that's awesome! I'm gonna make me several sizes of those as I have lots of extra wrenches. Great tool for the lathe.

    Thank you for a lovely step by step video , i have a block in my chuck thinking what to make next . A small hemostat called a mosquito clamp works great to hold and position little fiddly bits
    Off to building center for bigger forstner bit . I have a 1 inch , and 1 5/16 and 1 1/2 speed bore bits

    9:39. I am confusing. How is the gouge not going inside the workpieces holds and breaking the 4 corners?

    • @waltwager
      @waltwager  Před 8 měsíci +2

      The holes are moving so fast that the gouge skips over the surface and doesn’t enter the inside space. use a light touch and let the tool do the work.😅

    Hi Walt, great video, I have done a similar project with a tree in the hole but the bird makes a nice change. All the best for the festival season.

    sir, may I offer the recommendation that you position your camera to either a more overhead position or directly facing you from the other side of the lathe.
    it was frequently difficult to see what you were doing due to your hands, arms, and/or shoulders obstructing the camera.
    I offer this because I really wanted to see your beautiful work as you were doing it.

    • @waltwager

      It had nothing to do with woodturning. I did it mowing the yard when I ran into a low lying tree limb.

    Can't believe that you left the chuck key in the chuck. BIG NO NO, no matter how good you are.

    • @waltwager
      @waltwager  Před 8 měsíci

      Very observant - you may have noticed I was getting a jam chuck to insert in the scroll chuck so I wasn’t about to turn the lathe back on until I had removed the key from the chuck.
