And on the opposite end: its such a buzzkill when your parent goes your entire childhood saying and sticking to the "im not your friend, i will never be one of your friends, im your parent" like my mom did. Creates a situation where the child resents the parent and only shows them the respect you would show a stranger. Meaning if the parent then tries to lecture like they did when the child was younger the kid will then only afford them the respect shown to a rude person who approached them in the streets TLDR be your kids friend it does so much emotional damage and ruins the family dynamic if you try to 'never be the friend, only the parent'
