Odd Haugen and the World Record Thomas Inch Dumbbell Lift
Vložit

- It might not look very heavy, but the Thomas Inch dumbbell is one of the hardest implements to lift with one hand, for a couple reasons - one, the handle is about the same circumference as a coke can. Try getting a good grip on that thing. And two, it weighs 172 lbs. Add the two together and you get an implement that time and time again humbles otherwise strong men. But lifting the Thomas Inch dumbbell is something that Odd Haugen is particularly well-suited for, having one of the best grips of all time. In this Rogue Record Breaker event, Haugen attempts to lift the dumbbell a record 66 times - one lift for every year of his life - in 10 minutes.

I suggest never shaking hands with this man
Why i started crying from this video?
Peter Olsen hes joking about the grip strengh
Peter Olsen 🤦🏼♂️
That's exactly what I was going to say
I just met him last weekend. It was an honor for me to meet this man. A real legend in the sport.
Little did we know the young man helping him off the stage and sitting next to him would be the 2019 WSM
Young and svelte looking. Martins has surely been eating his sandwiches since
Martinsssssss!!!!!!!
3:31 them sitting together with Odd's shirt saying RECORD BREAKERS xD
I think that was always the plan ...
lol right. martins looks so young
Rogue Fitness, you guys have really brought strongman to a whole new level. This sport will grow bigger and get more people involved thanks to what you do. The videos you have done these past couple years are fantastic. You have done more for this sport in the last few years than WSM and ESPN have done all together. It would be great if you could do a major strongman documentary along the lines of "Fittest on Earth"! Keep up the great work!!! I am Rogue!!!
The guy promoting the sport the most has to be Eddie hall with his 300k+ followers
+BoulderShoulders At the moment, Eddie isn't worried about the sport, but his fame which grows everyday by his charisma. A shame for him in my opinion, he could be a great icon of the sport.
BoulderShoulders is say Elliot Hulse was
strongest on earth
TheSwoleBroscientist oh no way, a for-profit business?! What monsters!
An old man in his 60's being able to lift a 172 lbs. dumbbell over and over. Not gonna lie, that shit is legendary.
It’s how thick the handle is that makes it hard...
yeah the weight is kinda trivial, if you were holding a barbell with that weight on it in one hand it'd be easy if you're moderately strong. the problem is it's impossible to hold onto for anyone with a merely strong grip. you need an impossibly strong grip for a handle that thick. I tried it once, wasn't even a threat of getting it. deadlifting double that weight is barely a warmup to me.
The weights not the impressive part, it's the shape of the dumbbell. It's designed so that you can't close your hand around it so it's borderline impossible to pick up without it slipping
Not 60's, but 70's. He is 73 now.
@@SuperEvilworm If you would even mind to watch the clip you're commenting on you would hear that he was 66 when this clip was made
Rogues support of strongman is the reason I buy their equipment and lifting gear.
I just wish it was cheaper haha
@@sweetchildofnine6677 You're paying for quality made in the US stuff tho, worth the price.
@@whitegoodman7465 I know, I make it a purpose to buy stuff made here, just saying hits the wallet hard. Gotta save up
Hey thats a younger Martins Licis in there...soooo bad ass to have Haugen as a coach and mentor...my hats off to you sir!💪
Good eye! Haugen and Licis are in my opinion the best mentor-student pair in strength sports
@@nonachyourbusiness1164 pretty much a father-son really.
He is no more baby dragon now.. He is the strongest man in the whole world right now
People in the comments don't understand how difficult this is. Thor couldn't lift it once. No one else can do this. Brian Shaw is the next best I'm pretty sure and he might get half of what Odd got. It's incredibly more difficult that you think since it's a solid piece that rolls out of your fingers.
Brian shaw just inclined pressed two of them the other day on his channel
Brian shaw has an incredible grip. But the guys point is still valid. He would probably do half of what this guy did.
Bs mark henry carried it over his head.
Mark Henry was the first to EVER lift this ....
He’s not even lifting it
When i am old i want to be like him. Such an inspiration.
I want to see him and thors dad do a training session together 🤣
You can maintain a lot of muscle mass and strength well into your seventies just by regularly lifting and eating. My grandpa’s 77 and in excellent shape and he lifts 6 days a week! Besides, retirement gives you plenty of time to focus on what’s important.
Those first 50 reps were so smooth, it is mind-blowing to know how heavy that thing is and how hard it is to grip.
I have had these for several weeks czcams.com/users/postUgkxP26Tir6n60vUkdtn4mbwhRO8cwuJQNy2 and I have been really happy with them so far. I love being able to do a variety of workouts at home when I don't have time to make it to the gym. When paired with a basic bench, there are tons of different exercises and you can hit pretty much all major muscle groups. It is easy to adjust to your desired weight with the dials on each side. They slide in and out of the cradle smoothly. The only downside to this design vs the newer version, is that these are pretty wide. This does limit your range of motion with certain hand positions on certain exercises. Straight dumbbell press would be an example of this. I have to turn my hands slightly in order to bring them close enough together. Not a huge deal to me though. Really happy with this purchase and would definitely recommend.
At his age, wow, hats off to him!
At any age.. literally 95% of the biggest guys in the gym cant lift this dumbell
You couldn’t even do it at your age lol
99,5%
@@anonanonymous8397 even top level strongman can't actually. The old man is insane
i train for strongman for some years...i got smaller hands and there will be my life achievment if I EVER lift it even ONCE... just for say...how awesome this is...
no offence but with small hands is will never be possible no matter how strong you are.
@@ebivkcalb Well, that's not true. It just means you need more strength to compensate for the lack of length of your hand that wraps around. Longer fingers would need less strength and shorter fingers would just need that much more strength.
1:02 wow the first time I've seen Robert Oberst not look homeless
Mitchell Trubisky
And cleaner 😂😂
Legendary grip, legendary strongman.
That thing ways as much as a full grown man. That's insane
It's sad how some teenagers showing off what they own get more views than legends like this man
I know people 40 years younger than him that couldn't even deadlift that much.
I cant deadlift as much as I can bench, some people just suck at deadlifting.
@@ChinBiter47 If you deadlift as much as you bench your body is severely unbalanced.
CardboardKing yeah bro, that’s some serious problems tbh. My bench is about 200lbs less than my deadlift
@@ChinBiter47 cuz u got weak fucking legs Thats why
@@ChinBiter47 yo legs weak af or yo arms are beast
So much respect for that enormous effort. Love to see Romark and Martins encouraging Odd.
Holy cow this guy's Grip strength is incredible....truly incredible. Like others have said, I'd be scared to shake his hand! Would easily crush every bone in my dang hand!
He is a legend, he was already doing strongman as long as I can remember like 20 years ago was watching the World Strongest Man series while he always showed a lot of consistency in strength!
This is a great document. Odd is legendary and Martins is Top Shelf all the way!
What a team’ how Martins carrying him off and sitting by his side as Odd does for him! Much love , truly inspirational! Thank you Odd an Martins!
Im from Norway in a little village called Horten and Odd Hugen has a legend status and a well known strong man for sure. Respect man.!!
Unbelievable feat of strength for a man at any age.
O.M.G. :-O I mean, lifting the Thomas Inch Dumbbell only once is already an incredible feat!! Mr. Haugen has surely out of this world grip and overall strength! My God!
i never thought watching a video like this would make me feel so emotional! Kudos to Odd!
that is one strong young man....big props
Well done Mr. Haugen.
You do deserve that beer.🍺
Odd, you are a legend whom I have respected as a businessman and strongman! What's the next challenge?
3:18 thats Martins Licis right there , the Mentor and the Disciple . Its good to know that fit and strong CZcamsrs like Jujimufu couldn't even lift this dumbbell once and Odd did that 63 times !!! its amazing !!
Juji lifted it at my place last October
70 years old now and still ripping grip. One of my favorite strength athletes
This guy is awesome, it really sucks that people have to get old. If he had all the time in the world to train he could smash that record with all of his talent. I'm sure some of the top strongmen could beat this record, but I really hope they don't. It would just be disrespectful to move the record that much further from where he got. Hopefully he tries again next year and sets a new record.
Odd is a hero!
Seriously, Odd you inspire so many people!
And just noticed a young longer haired Martins with him at the end!
This is crazy dope ! Big ups to you my man! 🙏🏾💪🏾
Amazing!!! Odd Haugen is a machine!!! What an inspiration!!!
Mark Henry was the first man to ever clean and press this dumbbell with one hand, in only his second attempt. It's sad that people think marks strength was just a gimmick. He was as legit as they come and one of the strongest men that has ever lived. We never saw his full potential in strongman because of wwe which is sad. He accomplished this feat whilst working a full wwe schedule and being unable to train like a full time strongman.
This is one of my favorite clips of odd haugen of all time... sheer respect to odd
Respectable, yet Odd thing to do
TheVaxruo I see what you did there.
Grip strength takes very long time to develop because you can't do exhaustive training without quickly running into all sorts of chronic conditions. You also need your hands for so many things that doing them in 3times per week would compromise your other training and life in general. No wonder the guy with the epic grip has been training routinely for 5 decades.
You can easily train grip 3+ times with the right program and experience zero injuries.
martins licis looks like a buff hippie here lmao
It’s humbling to see videos of some strong ass dudes try to lift this thing maybe once and struggle yet Haugen does it 63 times. Who cares about a time limit! That’s just incredible! I hope I can manage a fraction of that strength when I’m 66.
Legendary Odd! Always an honor to train with you
Wow, that left me speechless. Much respect.
Great Odd. hope all is well. waiting for your next record
Legend has it that Odd has a hydraulic system in his hands instead of bones.
He made it look easy
I could barely lift it once when i tried.. and i consider myself to be pretty rugged in my own regard. This Man's a Monster.
That was awesome!
Amazing! What a stud! Just goes to show age is no limit to what the human body can do!
Odd!!!
your a great inspiration man!
hope to meet up with you at your Training Hall gym sometime soon!
Sitting here screaming at my work computer!
Hell of a show!
I’ve personally lifted this weight ! this is an incredible acts of strength and resilience 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
One word ...... incredible
This is one of the most unbelievable feat of strenght I ever seen.
this gives "How heavy are the dumbells u lift" a whole new meaning...
Had tears in my eyes.
Seeing Martin embracing him is just fantastic.
Imagine the dumbbell falling in his feet.
Old man strength is something to behold
Rogue Rocks
You are love grandpa, Love from Pakistan dear, you are an inspiration to the young generation.
this is inspiring
at 66 years old that's incredible!!!
I wish more people would post videos of them attempting this themselves. Just so people more understood how insane this is.
He left it all out there F ing epic
But can he open a pickle jar?!?!?!
He can but if he does it'll rip the space time Continuum....
If he can`t, he will just crush the Jar in one Hand ;)
He will open them like a soda fucking bending the lid
I wouldn't test it if I were him, he'd most likely shatter the jar just touching it. Those hands are too valuable to risk
Clearly the jar will get scared at the sight of his forearms and open itself.
This man has my respect! 💪🙏💪
Old man strength at its finest...
Most people in the audience didn`t stand up because they simply did not realise what Odd just did. If I am allowed to correct the Commentator at one point... It is not certain that any man of any age could do even one of these. An unbelievable feat of strength. Would love to see Mark Felix or Mike Burke try this.
2021 still loving the thomas inch dumbbell?
My Guy got that, "Old Man Strength"!!🥺🥺😂😂😂👍🏽
Martins and romark at the end made me happy
The Inch Dumbell, at an iconic 177 pounds of weight, is not a test of body ability, but a simple test of grip strength. This man has thumbs of Irons and Pinky’s of hardened steel. some of the strongest men in the world cannot lift this iconic weight simply because their fingers cannot grip it.
When he first picked that shit up I thought to myself "that dude picked that dumbell, that weighs more than me, up like it was 40 lbs." He made it look so damn effortless. Good shit.
LOL MARK HENRY CRYING after this 😭 🤣 😂
That got me a little emotional TBH. That old man is a freaking legend
What's really crazy is that he doesn't have enormous hands. Someone like Mark Felix or Thor has enormous hands, so you'd expect them to have a crazy grip, but Odd doesn't, which makes this even more special!
I'd wager that Felix would have a good crack at this record too.
Odd is a beast of a man!!! I also like the 2016 Martins and Romark.
Odd - one of the best natural bodybuilder
Seeing him hug young Martins gave me chills
Legend!
Legend of the sport
This just goes to show, age is just a number!
that is dedication!
Fist bumps only when meeting this man.
Much respect
very moving stuff!
It's near impossible to comprehend how many people in the world are not as strong as that that man. Odd Haugen is entirely one of the strongest men on the planet.
That grip strength god damn...
Fuck. Fuck i was holding it and i was making it but when i saw basically a teenager Martins Licis helping him off the stage with the sweetest facial expression i just fucking lost it and teared up. That was incredible. They are still together, one is still kicking asses with grip competitions and the other is World’s Strongest Man. This video is amazing.
mark henry holds the record of clean and press with one hand on the thomas inch
Very encouraging 👍
I just watched a Jujimufu video featuring Thor Bjornsson and Larry Wheels among others, and everyone in the video had severe difficulties picking the damn thing up even once. Incredible performance for any human of any age.
Odd the legend
This looks hard as nails. Only a little handle to hold it by! This guy has got to have an elephants trunk grip. Massive respect for this amazing athlete!
The Handle is everything but little. You can`t get your Fingers all the way around it, that`s why the Dumbbell is so difficult to pick up
This guy a legend
Unbelievable!!!
Bravo!
Big ups....snot blood and tears.
Fuck that’s insane, Thomas inch would be proud
I don’t think y’all understand how it is picking up a 172 pound dumbbell with one hand that like picking up a good size person with one hand only what a beast
Its like picking up a 172lb person by the ankle because of how thick the handle is. That's what makes it EXTREMELY difficult to do.
That's right, Odd! You can do it!
