This is one of those tracks where your brain convinces you that the off beat is the on - then everything else comes in and you have to re-evaluate your life choices.
I think u bout done summed it! I was pretty sure bout things and the drummer kicked in SMH - dam!
@@digitalpapa55 After watching this about a zillion times i realise the trick is to watch Mono's foot tappin'
@@Wezly underrated observation
I actually think he's feeling it on the upbeat and then Sput enters on that as the onbeat
After listening to this song nearly everyday for a year, I know where the 1 is but I actually enjoy hearing two beats...
Mono Neon is his own thing. I can't get enough.
Hey fz gu
He kinda stole the show. I don’t mind though.
Yeah..im the same ..theyll be calling me a saxophonist, mono jr. Soon..40-50% of my listening is Neon the last 2 years..laughs
You too???everyday
Mono is a machine yo... i like how when you think you're counting right and then they come in at a different count!!
You are counting right, the drums came in on the upbeat
@@miguelsaavedrums On the one...James Brown lives on
@@miguelsaavedrums I thought Mono was on the upbeat, but since he started it off...it sounded like he had the 1.
LOVE IT! 64 year old full time musician/educator/jazz pianist. Most of my boys(and girls) from my day are gone. Maurice White,
Aretha, Natalie Cole, Luthor, Prince, Michael J., James Brown, and on and on and on. These young bloods. ABSOLUTELY LOVE what they're doing. They have done as all things do, and that is they have elevated the level or artistry and musicianship. Such a shame that the music "industry" has changed, you'll never hear this GREATNESS on the radio. Thank God for youtube. Truly amazing. They absolutely have taken things to the next level. I've been a music maniac for all my life. I know it when I hear it. There was a time when Duke Ellington, Count Basie, Benny Goodman, others were the sh&t. But music evolved. along came Miles Davis many many others, this right here represents one of the MANY facets that music, great music is today. Don't wanna make this comment much longer, but I just am reminded of SO many innovators, from Steely Dan, to Sly Stone, to Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis to Prince to James Brown, that literally CHANGED the game. Listen carefully, this right here is part of the next evolution of music. The Iphone if you will to what lies ahead.
Mr. Brown - the music that decorates your life has been hugely instrumental in mine. We hope to keep our ears and eyes open for music that moves the soul and blesses the heart. For me, as long as the music has a backbone, style and groove, I'm willing to invest my time. Thank you for the musical knowledge and wisdom that you no doubt impart to the next generation.
Yes, sometimes i get sad because i look at the music industry today and its just so shallow, 90% of artists today... But then you have people like these, the 10% out there, there is still good music and people pushing its limits !!!
Thanks G, we hear what you be saying, you right, we wont hear this on the radio, no more real music, but thank god for youtube
Check out his song Invisible. A work of art. Delicious chord changes a la Steely Dan.
Thanx, yes, they're all gone ... at least MonoNeon is a Link to RIPnce. And these boys make GREAT MUSIC!!!
Hardhat for safety once the funk comes down. Excellent musicianship ppl. Keep it up. On the 1.
11:08 Old lady bottom right lovin' it! Hope I'm still getting out, loving live music in my senior years!
How the living eff does this only have 42,000 views at time of writing?! Musicianship is absolutely amazing
Lol I never thought I'd see game grumps compilations leave a comment I've visited this video like four times 😂
Yeah this video should have more views also keep up the good work 👌 I like your videos too! Lol
I guess it's because it's not on MonoNeon's channel.
That intro is amazing. When the ensemble came in, I thought: huh, the downbeat isn't at all where I thought it was. And just then, I see the guitarist abort his first attempt at joining in and break out in laughter. Maybe he hadn't been clued in either, or maybe he was just deliberately playing along. Either way, it exemplifies that if you weren't at least half expecting this, you (i.e. me) have a lot to learn about funk.
I watched this video at least 50 times and even though I know where the downbeat is, I just can't catch it. I need waaaay more lessons.
I'm sure sput decided on the go to change the feel
The whole band laughs because they weren't expecting drums to come in there. But it feels damn good!
So nobody gone mention how Sput comes in...that dude is a drum genius! Funky with intentions
Bruh! Finally someone is saying this. The drumming on this is spectacular, honestly to me it makes the whole groove of the song
Yeah I honestly think that's what Mono intended. You can see Sput watching Mono's foot and it's tapping on the one where Sput comes in. Maybe?
He comes in/accents on the off-time a lot - not everyone is gonna appreciate the nuances. You gotta be able to feel out half times on 16ths to really get it, I didn't always have a feel for it. Listen to enough Hussain on Tabla, Victor Wooten, and Meshuggah and then it becomes a lot more obvious. Indian Solfege is what took my drumming to the next level and it's pretty much an infinite learning curve. Learning to play bass might be the best way to get really good at drumming. Wooten's Bass Class+Solfege is pretty much the future of all dynamic music.
"Mono..."
You just know what's coming!
What a subtle beginning to such an avalanche of funk.
Loving this.
Up there with the best live acts I’ve ever seen… incredible performances
No kidding!! 3 modes:
-Groove mono = locked in
-Legend mono = like Jaco , hendrix, srv, the 3 kings… etc..
-- mono UNLEASED = no words 🫨🤯😮💨 supersian of bass, highest level of display for precision, feel-good musicianship
ABSOLUTELY JIMMIE JAMIN FUNKEY.........LOVE THE FULL GROVE OF ALL OF THEM!!!!!!!!!.......MY FEET STILL TAPPIN HENSE THE YEARS OF DRUMMING
This band is Fire!!! Love them all!💕💯💯🔥🔥🔥💃💃💃

Mark Adams the Bass player of Slave who is in heaven is smiling at Mono Neon at 8:03. Pee uuuuuuu! Stanky!

This is elite level funk jamming, vibing at Prince level, second song sounds reminded me of Sheila E. Love it. This jazz crowd are determined to not get too excited and loose their shit.

Bruh Sput!! Just look at the band when Sput comes in. Totally out of nowhere
Mononeon is a great bass player.
Tightest, funkiest band on the planet. Period. Sput and Mono and Nate - too much. Peter! And the funkiest keys and horns anywhere.
Sounds and sounds

Yooo maan this is total revival of FUUUNKKK!!!! These guys rulzzz!!!!
Funkiest band of 2020, baby!!
Do you have any suggestions on music?
@@Sunshine_Daydream222 Vulfpeck (especially Cory Wong), Jacob Collier, and of course Snarky Puppy.
yesssss
6:50 〜 激アツ👍👍👍
The day this can happen again, I will most probably cry my freakin' eyes out, laugh, and dance my white buns off till they're sore!
No matter how hard I try, I cannot find the one in the beginning when it’s just Mono. Sput’s beat over it is so good!
Never mind I think I got it. I think Mono’s riff starts the and of 4. If you count on the numbers in parentheses or the upbeats, than it works, and you come in right on one with Sput. 1 (1), 2 (2), 3 (3), 4 (4).
Pretty cool! It’s amazing how Sput and Mono feel the 1.
@@AirGuitar damnit man. Thank you. I saw the guitar player laughing when sput started in. I’ve been trying to count this out for too long, that makes sense.
@@sellis330 haha no problem. I have no clue how Mono thinks of these grooves. The way he displaces the one is unlike anyone I’ve ever heard. It’s so good!
@@AirGuitar Yup, you got it, Mono starts on the and after 4. Took me a few views to catch it. I LOVE songs that fool you where the 1 is. Van Halen's Right Now is another one like that.
Funkiest band of 2020
7:00 to the end is incredible!
And the part before that isn't too bad either!
🔥
DRUMS AND HORNS!!!!!!!
🐲🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
It sounds like I'm in church but mono is a funk freak.
I heard GN last night at the Grog Shop in Cleve. No Mono or Peter but the "subs" were incredible and the band is FUNKY! Trombone istead of 2nd sax. Is this the lineup on their new album? (I was the only old guy there....)
my god am just filled up with funk
imo Mono has the funkiest fingers on the planet
10:14 couldn't contain myself.
Funkiest!!!!!!!!!!!
That guitar break!
That be my brother in law. Fantastic group!
I thought they were gonna end it but that 6:02 and that bass groove sheeesh mono neon is something else 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 whole band is sick tho 👏👏👏
nice
носок на басу это супер !!!!
A entrada da bateria bugou todo o meu cérebro kkkk
Hay registro del concierto completo? Alguien tiene el link?
I died at the comeback at 12:40 8D
yup i am boobin' my head...
Ghost note be wearing a construction hat cuz the band's too damn dangerous xD
I am pretty sure that is actually a shout out to Sly Dunbar.
MONO please don't stop. u r a genius. (sorry for the joke i wrote on you, please dont take it seriously) we love you.
Mono Neon is funky snoopdog
Shit funky
Really reminds me of Zappa
Ghost note is givin respect to Sly Dunbar , lOVe
Von V-keys Henry? Any relation to the Cory Henry?
nope!!!!
OMG this is how the STARTED OFF the set! And when did Sput start wearing a hard hat?
Is it because he's building lol
I love the hard hat!
Stay safe yall⚠️
The grooves get pretty heavy out there, man needs protection
5:01 oh my.... 🔥🔥✔️
Jomonger and now I’m looping it again.. 😂🔥
@@joymonger69420 back again!!! Haha 😂🔥
The drum fill @12:55 is mind-blowing. Wow!!! Did I mention the drum fill?
Mono is a hippie bassist
I did not know that was the "1"
Where is the 1st time ? LOL !
I usually don't like guitar but this one is great!!
Got some serious form of afunkopathy?
@@achenarmyst2156 Bass that's all I need
Mono who are you?!
4:10 my face the entire time
Why does v.keys have to do that to us.!!!!!???
Did Sput flip that bass line on it's head? 0:48
Definitely felt like it to me at first! But it seems like Mono was actually feeling it there the whole time...
Nah Sput knows what he did, look at his expression afterward hahaha
@@martinkent_ Oh I have no doubt he knew exactly what he did lol
It was in time with Mono's foot tapping so I don't think he did, but the way he was looking at Mono before that makes me think he might have had a hard time finding the 1.
2:30
Camera on MonoNeon. Cameraman knows.
На 9.40 балдеж! Крутой совместный риф! Наслаждение для ушей. Орлы!
Boddhisattva anyone?
Upside down slap bass. I didn't know humans could do that.
Does the first tune also have a name?
It’s all the same song: Milkshake!
My favorite of theirs ;)
Mono is a funky bass player = understatement of the year.
@@AirGuitar I've watched/listened to several performances of Milkshake and no other version sounds like this, not even close. The actual Milkshake starts at 6:50.
unexpresive mono
apparently everyone sucks at dancing lol i'd be getting down to heat like this
ギターのBo型元気男子、、、、いいね
Hahahaha😁😁😁⚡⚡⚡⚡
So tasty!
The bassist is a house cat.
I could be wrong but I think the bass player’s name is Mono. Nah, I’m just funnin’. I KNOW his name is Mono Neon!
This band is too funky!! Mono Neon and Sput wow! Loving it ---- mind blowing!!!!!!
