📌 What You'll Learn In This Video
-------------------------------------------------------
Today I will show you a tutorial on one of the most important aspects of great vocal mixes! We will be making space for the instrumental using EQ, Limiter & hidden patcher preset that nobody wants you to know about!
This secret trick is actually mind-blowing and I cannot imagine mixing without it.
To be fair I was thinking for a long time if I want to share it, but I decided that everybody has the right to best knowledge & education.
In this video, I will show you how to fit your vocals to the song/beat/lease perfectly, make it sound as one, and not as one track put over the other.
We will make a mixing relation between the vocal and the instrumental which lots of people forget about. It works without it but it definitely isn't a professional approach!
Not only into the beat but any instrumental!
We go about that and many more concepts in our new course!
You can use these techniques for every genre, such as rap, progressive house, future house, drum and bass, hip-hop, RnB, bass house, deep house, hard trap & many more!

In this video? When you side chain the signal track to the main vocal track? What preset effects does the main vocal track have? Since the signal only has the dry effects?
Do you have all that, in written instructions? I can't understand some of the words you're saying. I tried caption but it's in dutch.

Bro this is a game changer!!! Thank you. My mixes finally sound how they're supposed to! This was literally the missing key!!! SUBSCRIBED!
but what happens when you want to add the effects back?
You could also “sidechain” the effects into the channel where the instrumental is. That way the effects are also side-chained to the beat, not just the vocal. Thats how I do it at least, hope that helps!
@@Jtuneswavemusic It did help man, much appreciated bro. However, I do find that, even when using automation clips, the reverb lasts, or echos, quite a bit longer than usual man... do you know how I could change this? Make them last only as long as the automation clip normally should allow them too? If you don't mind helping again. Thank you for the prompt response King.🤝👊

After all these years of watching tutorials, this channel is the one which blew my mind, after a long time.

Everytime you mentioned sidechain in your videos I never had any idea of what the hell you were talking about. I was SCARED of this thing. I just only understood like a week back how to chain normally a track to another one and what it even does. I always skipped any video containing something with sidechaining because this was just too complicated for me. Today I decided to randomly click on this video. After 15minutes of everything writing down I have a very good idea of "what it does" and "how to use it" now. You probably get this a hundred times a day, but Max. You really just helped me a lot with this 5min video. Im ready for the double 360 noscope mainchain now. Gotta face your fears
Your tips are awesome. Sorry I always have two cents to add.
If I can add one more tip as an alternative: Instead of rendering out a dry track which is more files to work with, you can use a fruity send and route the signal to the instrumental with the volume all the way down. It will send the signal with only the effects which appear before it (so the reverb and delays etc. won't be sent if they appear after the send).
Note: Typically fruity send is pre-fader but as you're using it as a side chain, it seems to be post fader, so decreasing or increasing the fader position does affect your side chain amount.
The more you know.
Damn it. I just printed and mastered a track thinking it couldn't get any better. Now I gotta load my project up again 😂
Thanks man
Hey thank you for your further tip. I have two questions tho: first is this automatic? I mean I don't see him set anything inside the patcher tool, no eq, am I missing something?
Second, as you suggested I set a fruity sender before creative effects (auto-tune included: is it correct?) and I send the vocals to the track having all the volume turned down, not side-chaining the vocals in the mixer to the track as he shows but just the track with the master, having the vocals connected to the track trough fruity sender (sorry for repeating stuff).
Once I open the patcher in the track I select the vocals output, then I do the connections in the map he says (even tho my map connections looks a bit different than his map connections) but if I do not click "inspect sidechain" (if I do I hear both track and vocasl) I only hear the vocals and not the track only as he gets in the video. Am I doing or setting something wrong or is it ok? Sorry I'm a beginner thanks for your help
@prodbytwizzy the signal is the one being used to trigger the sidechain effect. Just like you would have 2 kicks and mute the other when sidechaining other things.
I have a question, but only because you didn't mention it. Why not use Fruity Peak Controller on signal mixer>Fruity Parametric EQ on the signal you want to compress>link to controller only the specific frequencies you want to the peak controller? Seems like you would have a lot more control, and you wouldn't need to take up cpu by running a compressor.
Please continue doing vids, I was literally enlightened by some of the concepts I did not not know that I did not know until you explained them
Trackspacer has left the Chat xD. Sooo helpful and safed me from buying a multiband sidechain for a current mix.

How do you unmute the original track after consolidation

Sir I got problem in umute the track after doing ctrl +alt+c . please tell how to unmute the track.
if u right click with your mouse it says unmute all clips thats how i done it
Good tip but it would have been helpful to show how to do it with multiple vocal tracks... I don't think most people just have a single track for all their vocals. You made it look easy by just selecting the vocals, but it looks a little more complicated when you've recorded your vocals bit by bit.
Then you just merge all your takes for the main line and use sidechain only on the main line ;)
@@theMixElite cool, thanks. Didn't really help me at the time though, so I just went to a different video and found someone who broke it down in a different way. It would help if you slowed things down a little for people like me that don't yet know all the shortcuts and common workflows as well as you. Just a thought... But maybe since your channel is geared towards FL Studio, you assume your viewers are at a higher level of proficiency.
I know enough to get decent quality recordings and export them as passable, if not enjoyable songs... But not enough to merge all my vocal takes without effing something up.
Bro you just literally gotta put all your vocals on one track then right click the track and consolidate your separate"bits" and that turns the many, into one.
Hopefully that helps
Thanks, I been trying to figure that out for years. i can’t wait to try it later today!
WOW, amazing bro! thankyou. even the effects aren't being over powered by the beat this is sick!!
Hey Man, great tips. How would this apply if I mix the vocals within the whole track mix down? Side chain all relevant synth and drums to the vocal signal?
Thanks!
Hey! Not sure if you already got an answer but what I did was WAV export the solo’ed main vocal with only the compressors and EQs turned on, then WAV export the rest of the track (with all vocals muted). After, I exported all vocals together (with all effects on) to another wav file. Next, I opened a new project, named it Master and dragged in the two first WAV files. I then used the sidechain trick shown in the video and finally dragged in the full vocals WAV file and blended it to taste with the now-side chained track. Hope that helps!
Why nothing happens in my daw, when I have this sidechain dry\wet knob turned to zero?
I thought this patcher did not change anything but after exporting I've noticed a difference, not huge but still making it much better! thanks
I never realized how good the stock FL plugins actually were
It's really helpful 🙏🏽
But can you tell us how can we make an oldschool beat using stock plugins
I have music best content check me out
I have to come back here to say thank you for the patcher tip, its fucking insane, my mix is much much better after applied that tip.❤️
Aargh!!!!!! Where has this video been hiding all this while?! You’re totally amazing
You're forever blessed ....
No one would have shown us this trick....
This channel is like Area 51 became shopping mall. Thanks guys!
Do you play the original vocal with the sidechain or just turn the sidetrack knob to 100% without the original vocal?
this blessing keeps blessing us
How do you mix the track seperately after you link the signal to the track. Adding effects on the track channel also effects the vocal at the same time. How can you fix this without removing the patcher & limiter effects on the vocals.
I had a question, after linking the vocal to the sidechain inside the patcher how do I go about adding my wet effects? This was a great tutorial, but for someone who has a very basic sense of fl studios I feel lost.
You just turn them back on, all you needed to mute them was to print a proper “dry” audio for ur side-chain signal.
@@o.b.e.productions3225 yes but u route the new track to a new slot. so you can't unmute them because they are on the old slot.
Basically when he roots the signal (the thing u just made) to the beat, you see him turn a dial all the way down and that makes it so you can't hear the vocals without wet effects. Then after that you unmute your original tracks with wet effects by highlighting them and pressing shift-alt-m and the signal plays but you cant hear it, making space for the original track and you can continue to adjust stuff.
Im new to FL studio and cant get the enable insert effects window open, can someone help please? is it "CTRL+LC"? what keys do I have to press down to get it open?
@@emmanuelperez3839 ctrl alt c
How we do compression perfectly without loosing the vocal character
Use only gentle compression. 2:1 ratio only a few db of gain reduction to catch the peaks.
Do the rest with volume automation. Alternatively you can use Waves Vocal Rider or Melda MAutoVolume. They do pretty much the same. Volume automation sounds way more natural than compression. Compressors can cause or emphasize artifacts and most of the time color the sound.
But like everytime in mixing it depends on the source. There is no formula for any situation.
@@n0cyber that plus parallel compression, so you get one real signal and one squashed signals, that focuses on all the details
@@floundso7012 yes! So many ways to mix sth and let it still sound natural.
You can also experiment with serial compression. It usually sounds a little smoother than working 1 compressor harder.
gentle compression mixed with parallel compression
Can you make a dedicated series on PATCHER? It has some gems like dynamic eq, vocal rider and many other.
That series will be really helpful for us
Yeah, how about a series on Patcher presets so I don't go spending more money on plugins I already have! Stupid Trackspacer.
it's like when u sidechain kick to the bass. it can help in many cases with different vocals!
What if you got different parts of song like chorus hooks etc. Do i need to consolidate the tracks before doing the signal? or should I do it individually
have u found a solution?
@@KnettiOnSpotify I just take and highlight the main vocals of each parts and consolidate them without the effects. It kinda works but if you messed up with how you recorded the vocals itself it'll be noticable in a trained ear. My solution to that is to rerecord the whole thing or just adjust the volume so that it'll have the same amount of energy. But if you're more patient than me I suggest you go for a rerecord. I hope this'll help.
@@lijunasuguerra6424 thank you so much:)
i will definetly try it
@prodbytwizzy This is how I understand it so take it with a grain of salt. Consolidating the raw vocals and using it as a signal creates a breathing room for your vocals. It copies the frequnecies of your signal so it will feels like the beat envelopes the vocal compare to just sidechaining it with the effects on. I never tried to consolidate nor sidechain the vocals but I think if you've done that the vocals would be too upfront rather than letting it fit with the beat.
This was crazy it worked instantly and I understood what was going on intuitively. Turns out I had for once already mixed the song pretty well, so I couldn't tell at first. But then I A/B'd it and it was clear as day and just ... damn. Fire bruh thanks
what does it mean to a/b a song
@@magnxs I meant it like I was comparing a mix version A to a mix version B, alternating which one you mute/solo to tell the difference more easily
Thank YOU Bro You Made My Day
OMG 😱 must be one of the best way... I’m gone crazy.... Thank you so much. ❤️
Perfect!!! Thank you! I'm neither Trap or ADM (I'm prog rock and prog metal) but these techniques are perfect! Thank you!
I think I missed something... How do I create the vocal signal?
solo it, export it. he just emphasizes having it eq'd and compressed before you do it so that way the vocal signal is the same as the actual acapella. then he just throws it on and unlinks it to the master and puts it on the instrumental
@@mokopuppet116 when i do that shit whatvr part i consolidate, it jus silences it. evn when i unmute it, it's still silent. how do i fix that?

I've been looking for this for so long, thanks man
Could you do ‘How To Sync Vocals With The Project BPM?’
that is easy and u probably find it on youtube already
Google the bpm and key of the vocal. Then on the very top right of the vocal wav form (next to the name of the wav on the arrange page), there is a tiny button, click that and click 'Fit to tempo'. Next, a box should open with general bpm times but you want to click on 'Type In (BPM)' option. Then just enter the Bpm of the original vocal and it will be in time with what ever your track is.
Tac What if it’s just a vocal I found of CZcams without any identity on google
prod. by mișu I know but this guy makes stuff easy to understand without any deep overthinking
You need to set the meta-data of the vocal to its actual BPM. So, say if you have a sample at 140 and want to make a track at 150, then you could use Edison to assign its BPM. That's done through right clicking on the sample in edison and selecting "properties". Then there will be a box to put in BPM. Render the sample out and it will automatically time stretch to that assigned BPM. From there, you can change the project tempo and the sample will time stretch to the project BPM.
Alternatively, like Tac said, you could go to the sample settings and select "fit to tempo" and "type in: BPM" (140), provided you know it was at 140. Then, it will time stretch the vocal and it will align to 150.
Knowing the BPM of the sample is the most important part.
mannnn you went through those steps way too fast
Thats why im coming back every now and then 😂😂
😂😂😂😂😂
bro this is insane, thank you so much !
hello max, just stumbled upon this video, great content. however why was the vocals re-exported into the timeline, and which of the vocals is playing at the end when you used multiband sidechain, because i can still both the original vocals and the exported one still together on the playlist.
Am I the only 1 or did this do absolutely nothing
Nah bro this works u must not be connecting the side chain right
Sidechain properly bro
It works for sure…
lmao i did it wrong 2 ima keep tryin
Definitely works ! If done properly by sidechaining the vocals to the melody, you can see the limiter compress the track! .. I'm trying to figure out the Patcher method now!
thank you is not a world between before and after you make this on your vocals but i understand that the vocal is coming more in presence with this track.
i didn't get the signal part, how did he make it? Nothing happens when i press control alt c
The control alt c isn’t working for fl studio 21 on Mac, do you know what I should press to create the vocal signal?
