    I've had the GM4000iSAPC for a month now. I purchased it because the existing generator I had (a Pulsar PG2200BiS) was too loud when running a near capacity load ~13 amps @120 VAC.
    A couple of observations I've made:
    1. The pull start rope comes out of the case at a sharp angle -- if you don't make sure the rope is clearing the case, it can and will eat grooves into the case. Most other generators I've used have a metal plate to prevent this from happening, so this seems like a design flaw to me.
    2. When the generator is in low idle mode and a relatively high load is put onto it (I use a HF heat gun to test high loads), it will surge/shake until it can catch up. When it does this and is on a hard surface like asphalt or concrete, it will move from its position. My other inverter generators will ordinarily bog down and eventually catch up.
    3. When I was initially inspecting my generator, I found that the air intake boot for the carburetor that goes into the air filter housing was not fully seated. If the generator was run in that configuration, it would have been able to suck in unfiltered air.
    4. There is a rubberized retainer that is near the cylinder head that is quite brittle/easy to break. When I pulled the oil fill side case cover off, it fell out as it had been broken at the factory from what I can tell.
    5. The generator is well packaged (as well as any of these generators in this class).

    • @johnnysweekends
      @johnnysweekends  Před 10 měsíci +2

      Thanks for the info definitely good to know. I did notice my intake boot seemed snug but not out of position. I’ll have to mention something.
      But when your operating your gen you are doing it wrong. Under high loads on and off the low idle should be off so it can provide power to higher loads.
      If it’s just a gradual increase then low idle is fine
      Again thanks for the feedback

    • @ck4x7
      @ck4x7 Před 10 měsíci +1

      @@johnnysweekends Yeah, I don't disagree that I'm operating the generator incorrectly by throwing a load at it like that, ordinarily I leave the eco idle off anyway. It was just something I noticed during testing and my other generators (Pulsar PG2200BiS, Pulsar G2319N, and a 2018 HF Predator 3500), don't surge the way the Genmax does.
      I have a picture of the intake boot, happy to send it wherever you would want me to.

    Now this is awesome! Where was this a few years ago. Regarding the bonding plug, do you only need to bond 1 of the 2 generators if in parallel too when using a traditional parallel kit? In series, it looks like it’s just 1 that is needed.
    To my understanding you should not bond your generator when using it with an existing properly bonded electrical system (I.e. a house, venue, etc) due to different ground potentials. But in an electrical system derived from solely generators, I am unsure if it’s somehow dangerous to bond both generators ran in parallel.

    • @johnnysweekends

      You only need to bond one if using a watchdog unit or other EMS device. If at a house it will determine you type of transfer switch

    The newer GM4600IAEDC includes ‘neutral bonded’ sockets, making it challenging to connect directly to buildings. Would this series kit bypass the bonding, for home backup applications? And would this provide both bonded (on the gens) and unbonded sockets (on the parallel box), simultaneously?

    Johnny, thanks for the videos! I’m looking for a generator(s) for my 5th wheel which has 50 amp service. One of these units may run one AC unit and limited other needs. Two of them should run both AC units. I’m confused however on whether to run them in parallel or use the series function and which way to set the switch on the box. Would I use the it in the 120V position or the 120V/240V position?
    I would plug in my 50 amp Watchdog EMS as you have shown then the 50 amp cord to the trailer. Thanks in advance for your input.
    Your videos on generators have been a lot of help during my research, thanks again!

    • @johnnysweekends
      @johnnysweekends  Před 10 měsíci

      It depends on how your Rv is wired.
      I can use a 30 amp service and power everything in my Rv not at the same time but everything will turn on, both ac units, electric water heater and more.
      Now it also depends on your power needs. Are you going to have converter on? Fridge on AC? Water heater on AC and such.
      That can be a big big difference in type or size of gen to get.
      If just running a couple ac units and maybe charge batteries here or there no bigger and of course run the microwave when needed.
      Now I have a 208y setup. Maybe check yours
      I would probably run these in series I think but being so new I’m still wondering what would be best and need more time to see how they do.
      But if I was going to strictly run two ac units and everything else was off parallel would share the load equally and series would split it and each units load would be different. So one generator could have more load time then another, but you could just swap out that unit next time to handle the large load.
      But yea one ac unit on each of these is perfect. They would just purr

    • @SlooDon

      Thanks! I have a 2023 Cougar 23MLE that has a 2000 Watt inverter, 400 watts solar panels and 2 100 amp lithium batteries. I would have the converter on. Fridge is 12 volt compressor type.
      I’m thinking one of these would run one AC and the charging needs of the batteries running the fridge and some lights. Maybe the TV. Two in parallel (or series) should handle both AC’s, the TV and charger.
      Would shut down one AC to use microwave.
      What have you heard on GenMax’s durability?
      Thanks!

    • @johnnysweekends
      @johnnysweekends  Před 10 měsíci +1

      @SlooDon these will easily power what you need and in parallel since you have a 30amp service camper I would assume. Short unit. What size ac units like a 13.5 and a 10k?
      So far the Genmax units have been doing well. Sure some have died like any other brands but now that they have been out for a while they are holding there own. I still recommend a warranty just like when you buy a harbor freight predator.
      But you have a good set up and charging batteries seems like it should be limited with the solar on board. Really your just needing for ac unless you use a lot of power

    • @SlooDon
      @SlooDon Před 10 měsíci +1

      Johnny, I have 50 amp service in the 5th wheel. One 15K AC and one 13.5K AC. It’s 50 amp two 120V leg service. Running two generators I would use the 50 amp outlet on the parallel/series box. It’s when using the 50 amp plug that I’m confused. If I plug in the 50 amp Watchdog first then the 5th wheel cord should the switch be on 120 or 120/240 on the parallel kit.
      Is the 120 to 120/240 switch the parallel to series switch?
      Sorry to be a pest…..😁

    • @johnnysweekends
      @johnnysweekends  Před 10 měsíci +1

      @SlooDon ahh that’s right sorry. Lots of comments to go through and sometimes I mix a few up.
      Technically you could skip the watchdog if you want. The generators have there own safety shut offs but if you want the dog in-line for monitoring that’s nice as well.
      You honestly could run it both ways.
      Parallel they will load share and in series with the 240 switch they will run independently so each will take care of its own 120 leg.
      Our RVs don’t have true 240 volt appliances, so we have options on how we want to use it.
      In a home panel then switched to 240v 👍🏼

      Yes, if you buy two you will need the box to put them in parallel or series.
      If you parallel you double you amp output.
      If you out in series you double the voltage and amps stay the same. So you would get 240 volts and say 25 amps per load wire.
