There's a meditation center a few minutes away from where i live, and though it's a public medication center, it's mainly full of monks, like ACTUAL practicing monks(robe, shaved head, etc) - And when i went there, they actually heavily enjoy his music, especially GHOST for obvious reasons. Although I've enjoyed his music for such a long time, it's really amazing to see him branch so much, especially so that even all groups and types of people enjoy him. He went from a heavy-extreme industrial band to a solo project that in the end is celebrated well among the underground community. It's good to see how far he's come. He's earned his jelly donut in my book :)
I've been a Luthier & on the road guitar tech since 1980. I've been able to keep Gibsons & even old Strats quiet. If you have a EMG humbuckers, try the BTE controller. It boosts bass & treble and dips the mids. Gives an almost acoustic clean tone. I really like EMG Single coils, they really are EMG's best PU's. The Gilmour set is amazing. But that 81 is like a spike going through my ears. The BTE helps a lot & it gives you a tone control that actually does something.
Devin seems like a really great, funny, laid back zero-ego guy who isn't afraid to laugh at himself. The guys an amazing musician and I love how he can go from hellacious to heavenly and back with the greatest of ease. I want one of these guitars soooooooo much.
I love that Devin will not compromise even if someone thinks he is an asshole he will not give up his integrity which is really cool to see in the music world.
Almost a decade later, but check out Dev's guitar improvisation series on his channel ("Devin Townsend"). It's great stuff, and much of it has that vibe.
I've never seen a whole body built out of flame maple. One of the guitars I built for the quarter inch flame maple cap was almost 200 bucks just for that. No wonder those are so expensive.
He was playing this guitar or a similar guitar at Aalborg metal festival last year and I totally fell in love with it. Broke my heart when i saw the price-range :P Really cool and beautiful guitar!
woah, amazingly beautiful guitar. I'm from germany as well, but Marktneukirchen is basically on the opposite of germany from where I live...too bad :( keep it up Mr. Townsend :)
I think because he uses the Axe-Fx live and in ear monitors theres not a huge amount of volume on stage. So that would make feedback much less of a problem.
Think about Zakk Wylde...he could play a shovel as well he does with Gibson Custom Shop gear. Jimi played Stratocaster Standard....and you know what I am talking about. Most of this is only spending money till You die. Al You.need is love...a bottle of Jim and a guitar to play.
I know nothing about Devin. But I really like how he presents himself here. I will have to check him out. And does anyone know that spacey effect he was using at the beginning?
I agree completely. They have some advantages on stage though. Very quiet, long cable runs & you're disconnected from potential ground faults. Les Paul himself invented & swore by low impedance pickups. But I agree, they lack tone. But Framus' play extremely well & they are built to last
"essentially just an EMG 81"....? well, with the printing of Devins initial's on the bridge pickup i'd say its a signature prototype pickup (i've seen them on some other guitars of his).
I'd like to know how Devin handles the feedback problems you can get with the hollowbody instruments, since he plays at fairly high volumes and often with a lot of gain.
I got one of these when my Grandfather passed away 10 years ago. He as a country musician back in the 50s to the 80s. just took it out to play it for the first time. I don't much about the guitar and I'm trying to learn more. It looks similar to yours but has a sunburst finish. I know my grandfather bought it before I was born, so It's at least early 70s, but I think its from the 50s or 60s. Is there a good reference for these type guitars, and where do you find the model number on these?
@@FramusWarwickOfficial Thank you! I took it to a Luthier and he found out it's a De Luxe 6 (5/121T). It still had strings on it from the 70s. I'm having the guitars electronics checked out, cleaned, and the guitar set up this week. Thanks again for answering.
Framus makes a great guitar. The one he's playing is probably $7k. They have $3.5k Korean made guitars. You could put those pickups in a boat oar & it would sound the same. Why waste the money on a Framus if your going to install EMG's? Oh, he's not paying.
most real musicians aren't wearing a uniform anyway especialy of the metal variety Just look at Chuck Schuldiner. I agree completely! Devin's awesome and so is Framus....other than my axe fx II all I use for amps are Framus Dragons and cobras.
"Very quiet" From my experience, Gibson SG's (or perhaps ALL Gibson solidbodies) have very noisy wiring. I had an SG Special that hummed so loud, I put EMG's to negate the noise. After putting the EMG's, it was silent enough to hear a pin drop. Distortion was great; however, the clean tone (or lack thereof) for R&B/Funk comping was driving me up the wall. I now have a pair of high-output Dimarzio's that sound 100 times better overall, and I'll just have to deal with that annoying Gibson hum.
Not really. He didn't like the endorsement contract with Peavey. Like he says, he's a "guitar slut" and likes many guitars. He still plays and loves his Peaveys, but now he can play other things.
"Just wood in general" hahaha that face!!!
I love how Devin Townsend doesn't take himself too seriously. Refreshing to hear from a bonafide shredder dude...
No problem, through our custom shop, you can order exactly this guitar - including the inlays and pickups. Thanks for watching!
It's so cool the work these companies have been doing. And it's beautiful the way they let the musicians kinda lead the design process.
Great perspective! Totally agree :)
he's so. damn. funny.

I never learned how to read, but my eyes and ears tell me JK Simmons is a multi-talented man.

Picked up a mayfield custom at guitar center the other day out of curiosity. No intention of buying it. Never put it down. Absolutely killer guitar
Ah that amazing vibe in the beginning, I could listen to hours of that. Such a great musician.
Almost a decade later, but check out Dev's guitar improvisation series on his channel ("Devin Townsend"). It's great stuff, and much of it has that vibe.
"I don't want to spring to conclusions just because that's been my nature for so long"...I laughed through this whole video...
That really is fine craftsmanship.
For me definitelly: "Fan of wood in general"......hahah
I've never seen a whole body built out of flame maple. One of the guitars I built for the quarter inch flame maple cap was almost 200 bucks just for that. No wonder those are so expensive.
A beautiful instrument, and no one plays it so lovely as you, Dev!
Devin being Devin. Absolutely fantastic.
His ambient work is so amazing...
i miss seeing him with a telecaster though, if only they'd make him a tele style guitar.
That tone at the beginning is beautiful
HAPPY BIRTHDAY DEVIN
He was playing this guitar or a similar guitar at Aalborg metal festival last year and I totally fell in love with it. Broke my heart when i saw the price-range :P
Really cool and beautiful guitar!
Devin is cool !!! Awesome guitar
Such a good person.
Nice music. Keep it up Devin.
Funny guy! And a great guitar. I start digging Framus!
Lol Devin, very down-to-earth dude. Yet a killer musician. That guy lives in a different dimension, I'm sure.
D= amazeeeeeing pick!!
that's put perfectly, I agree.
Incredible being.
thanks homie

I will never be as cool as him.
congrats
Nice guitar for sure.

GOD HE'S FUCKING AWESOME
this video came out on my birthday
Yeah good point thanks! :)
If they just werent this expensive...
Ziltoid attitude! He came to this world to conquer US with his beautiful music!
2:01 ZILTOID! THE OMNISCIENT!
I know nothing about Devin. But I really like how he presents himself here. I will have to check him out.

I want this guitar
2:57 priceless face

New endorsements for devin, cool
very reverb and shimmer
I think it al comes from his Fractal Axe Effects rack.
"essentially just an EMG 81"....? well, with the printing of Devins initial's on the bridge pickup i'd say its a signature prototype pickup (i've seen them on some other guitars of his).

WOOD!
heavy devy
my only question is....WHAT WAS that beautiful piece he was playing?! I already use Framus/warwick. :D
So he's transfered from Peavey guitars to Framus? Nice!
Soooo..How many presdential flashcards does it take to own a DTP approved guitfiddle?
+brian harding 6560 and some change.

Hi there, Serial Number can usually be found on the inside of the instrument, on a sticker, for those old models.

framus has a god among them. hope they realize it
2:56 lol pure devin face
Alriiight, playin' some Ziltoid at 2:03 !
"With 20 seconds of reverb. Ha-hey!! Covers up the shmuts."
what reverb/delay does he use?
I was afraid of that :(. hope he records that. it's pretty hot.
How much would that cost??
2:59 his face.... XD
Now, the question is, how much would that that be, USD?
Does he have any solo projects where he shreds all the time?
No he finds just shredding all the time to be the musical version of erectile disfunction and doesn't have all that many solos in his catalog
Would make sense considering he used to sing for Vai and they're rather close friends.
Put this guy in sandals and a silly hat and he'll still be metal as hell.
This actually aged well
@@matusgensky3764 Hah! Guess I unknowingly predicted some stuff. Thank you for pointing it out. I have no memory of making this comment. xD
available lefty?
how much?
can definately hear some steve vai in him
"Aboot"
FYI it’s Pronounced Warrick Devin.
is it wrong that totally wanna buy this guitar?
axfx im guessing
Actually doesn't it sound a bit like Heart Baby off Ghost?

Unless you're talking about Gibson Les Pauls, which are chambered mahogany...
how much for this guitar? not joke
Anyone knows that intro ?
Turcan Tuna it sounds like mostly improve, but there are some parts that are reminiscent of his song Feather.
i think Devys next album he should be wearing a ronald mcdonald Red afro wig on the cover.
most real musicians aren't wearing a uniform anyway especialy of the metal variety Just look at Chuck Schuldiner. I agree completely! Devin's awesome and so is Framus....other than my axe fx II all I use for amps are Framus Dragons and cobras.
i wish framus were a bit more affordable :"""V
6:35 - ANTS
Can I buy this guitar or are you guys just taunting me
Not Trujillo...just a Chrome Tone Streamer LX Bolt-on.
when devin going to 7 string guitar made?
slamdeathgrindmachine ziltoid V.
Intro sounds a bit like "Cluster One" by Floyd.
And how much is this guitar worth to you guys?
Colt Grassie $6,560
ZILTOID !!!!!!!
MARKNEUKIRCHEN! :D

.....for me
I think he'll probably be slowly ditching Peavey
Who would have imagined that after The Who he would be in a metal band ;)
***** I tried to do a joke ;-;
Sry
Made me chuckle, for what it's worth.
Honestly I am not sure.
I want to hear the guitar... Not 30 seconds of reverb...
