- With my main dude, Cheddar Kung Pao, talking about some of the guitar techniques Josh Homme uses to rock our worlds in Queens of the Stone Age, Kyuss, Them Crooked Vultures, etc. Check out the vid where the man himself explains it:

A little about me:
Sean Daniel is a man. A man of simple needs and desires. And the one desire, no, the one NEED, that stands above all is to spread the challenges, joy and intellectual stimulus of music to people of Earth and beyond.
Born on the mean streets of upper middle class suburban Chicago, Sean learned the ways of the world through the dizzying heights of success to the lonesome depths of failure and emerged with the promise of a better tomorrow reflecting in his eyes and fiery passion in his belly.
He plays and teaches guitar on his CZcams channel where he regularly releases original music and projects to the adulation of legions of fans, who often compare him to Chris Pratt and one time Ryan Reynolds. He’s currently in the market for a nice leather jacket.
skip the banter

steven jimenez you are my hero
Geek talk
King
This new season of Seinfield is kinda weird with the guitars
Lool
No doubt, although I thought it was big bang theory but yeah Signfield. BAAAAHAHAHAH
Yeah I didnt know George Costanza played guitar.
You know when you’re about to click on a thumbnail and CZcams loads another video the last second so you open the wrong video and instantly click to go back ? I was in the process of doing that when my passive reflex vision caught, read and analyzed the epicness of this comment forcing my primary sense to comeback and actually read what the f was that - that’s how viscerally funny this comment is so Kudos!! In the midst of feeling all these emotions, Jerry says Josh soul sucked the ginger out him 3:10 making me finally notice the video, seeing the whole thing and subscribing cos it pretty pretty pretty good!
Oh I get it... you just add the "Simpsons" note, hahaha
Which is that?
Is that the Panzerballett Simpsons note or the other one? I think it might have made it into Xmas Death Jazz (just like every other note did). Here's Rudolf, anyway: czcams.com/video/UlXaI3m2eqk/video.html
@Resilient Jackal Thanks. Btbam is cool (if a teeny bit dismal, as well).
@@sicko_the_ew The bart Simpson note.. Play the theme to the simpsons. It is a major 3rd & a flat 5th(raised 4th lydian scale)... I was joking
It's called a tritone brah
The scale is found in the Hungarian Major, Diminished Half Whole or Whole Half and the Bebop Melodic Minor.
I don’t know, I’m not feeling this one. I’m a huge Homme fan and was excited to see the imo best guitar CZcamsr break it down. But most of the video was just chatter with Cheddar about anything but music. Unlike guests in other videos, he honestly didn’t contribute anything to the video and I’m not so sure as to why he is even in it. The actual music parts were very short and not very explanatory. Sean, I love your content because you’re usually very good at explaining things in easy to understand ways and then providing plenty of examples and ideas of how to incorporate it into playing and songwriting. But this video was just “add these two notes and lift your ring finger on a power chord” and the rest was awkward, almost cringy chatter. No context, no ideas or anything...
That's like.. your opinion man. I found it entertaining and informative. Next Andy Richter?
Maybe thats all he wanted to explain and talk about man. You're not gonna like everything everybody does.
i think that was the right amount of information without actually spoiling this to the people who a) dont know enough to understand.
and b) wont make the effort to learn anyways.
Thanks for the info. I am older than most on this here interwebs deal, and I was into the original punk scene. As a young guitar player I loved the guitar sound of the Ramones. One time I was watching Johnny Ramone and noticed that he played his "A" position bar chords just like this. And yes, it's technically called a "First Inversion" where you drop the 5th of the chord to the lowest note. Loved that sound, so all through my post punk playing career I played my "A" position bar chords like that and it really made them heavy and chunky. I believe Tony Iommi did the same thing.
You're definitely right on! Both great players!
This is a total disservice to Josh Homme fans that thought this was going to be cool. This was terrible.
Agreed. They should maybe heed the advice: If you can't, don't.
Thanks boys. Will be having fun with this!!
Happy to help!
Is that all ? Damn it. we are talking about Josh Homme.
You Speak much and play little
Yeah thats useless, but remember there's a dude with a guitar on the left that doesnt play it once :D
Beavis and Butthead before the brain damage
hehe
Before?
definitely after
A video about one of my favorite videos. This video is great.
Perfect vidéo to say the least !
love this so much . that noisey interview is my favorite interview of his
Sean found a soul in music when he was young
Haha, yup.
5:10 you got something extremely wrong. The queens chord thing is actually about LEAVING THE OCTAVE OUT. Basically keeping the pinky away in a major chord („E-scheme“), muting the D String with the index finger and not playing the highest strings at all. That hammering thing you described later happens occasionally (e.g. Little sister, as you said) but not as frequently as people might think.
Thanks for keep it up with this! I didnt notice about the thing with the chords that he does, i take it just as something normal for me, and i feel that there will be some more about Josh on the future from you and thats why this video was so short about the thing he does 🤘
weird. Go watch the guitar moves video with Matt Sweeney and Josh, much better. It’s informative and actually entertaining.
I've been looking for this forever!!!
Welcome to the party!
I really didn't learn like the actual scale by watching this. It was just talking and power chords.
I liked that “What, Me Worry?” photo! Keep the videos coming.
There's a lot of them :)
3:58-4:04 is all the usefull information in this video.
I love musicians
These are my kind of videos!
Thanks for watching Jake!
I thought his shirt was saying all you need is jizz at first.
Damn, i unknowingly did that power chord inversion in one of my songs. I just thought that was how power chords were played when the root note was on the 5th string instead of 6.
I mean it's basically the same :)
Weezer do this all the time
That's a gorgeous guitar
Love that D'angelico
I call him josh homie
;)
ZosoJuan niiice. I went to a Foo’s concert that Josh was at side stage, and Dave Grohl called him and his family “my Hommies’’
Thanks for the snippets of Homme’s techniques. But this clip could’ve been 2mins long. Really could’ve done without comedic attempts made to entertain middle schoolers.
If you decide to make any further instructional clips, hopefully you take note of the constructive critiques in the comments.
I wanna hope Cheddar's shirt says "all you need is JAZZ"
'fuzz'
I’m gonna have to learn this scale on Bass.
Cool. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks Lee!
Even as a five-year old Sean was giving that look of, "Everybody in the world but me is a dumb-ass."
Early bloomer.
Thanks you dorks, for getting me a little closer to Homme. I'll never be ginger though, unfortunately.
You just play the first few notes of the Lost Woods tune.
I realized that in the moment ;)
The Gingerness....and the Fame and Fortune.
Opeth does this a lot too.
Another great band.
I am in love with your guitar...... I need it
That's one hell of a nice axe, dude!
Thanks so much!
Cool!
Thanks for watching!
It's okay to look at the camera instead of everywhere but the camera.
Can someone please tell me where Sean's accent comes from?
I notice Cheddar Kung Pao is rocking a That Pedal Show t-shirt.
Repping another channel low key, shameful.
This video is WAY more entertaining when they're just talking about the technique, and not trying to be funny. Nonmedy at it's finest.
I don’t know who Cheddar is, but I’m subscribing because the ruggedly handsome Huey Lewis look-alike on the right told me to. Love your channel, Sean. Keep on rockin! (In a Maj7/min11 sort of way.)
Cheddar is a good man.
There "are" a lot of ways...
Ooh, stereo mic'ed in my headphones, I noticed.
Nice.
Hommy
:)
I don't get it, so you replace the G and the A, or you just add the G# and and the A# to the overall minor pentatonic?
3 min in ...your 1 priceless piece of dandruff ! Couldn't get rid of that for picture day. It's not your fault. It's not your fault
The beginning of this video tells me he plays the Simpsons theme song to create his riffs.
I'm hoping Josh Homme watches when you said he's bad at explaining LOL
Same :)
QOTSA ARE AMAZING
that was fun
What a sweet D'Angelico!
Well… There’s 7mins of my life I’ll never get back. 🙄
Cool, duderino.
Thanks for watching!
You guys are very charmjng, very good. More geet.
Thanks so much!
@@seandaniel23 more geet, sir.
Love qotsa
Top 5 fave for me.
Same here man. They are so good. I love the growth from album to album too. Check out the desert sessions if you haven't yet.
I don’t care about your ginger past. The actual video is better. Talks about it sounding stupid but cabernet, a type of courting sound
😮
A strange and odd video , none the less entertaining 🙏🏻
guitar pewdiepie
Just watch his video with Guitar Moves. There he talks about it himself.
Linked in description.
Polka?
Everything starting from 4:45 sounds like "The Cost".
Because it basically is :)
I love how this thing they’re doing, Hendrix did a lot just with a different tone
Is "chuggy" an official musical term?
I believe so.
You two crack me up! Not familiar with the D'Angelico brand of today. That guitar was speaking to me like a bowl of ice cream.
Deluxe Atlantic. Awesome guitar!
Even if you are lactose intolerant, find an American made D'angelico, it's worth all that brown hot water you'll be filling your pants and toilet with.
Nice
I want Sean’s guitar!!!
Ao strignete!
I don't think the Homme scale is a real scale, it's just a minor pentatonic with some whole-tone scale sounds thrown in.
That pedal show t-shirt on cheddar
Can you upload the tab for the scale?
A DAyborn Ginger
As the prophecy foretold
I think the guy on the left might me kyle gass's lost son
Poor Sean, soul sucked at such a young age. Oh well, now time for a question. Have you ever used The Nashville Numbering System?
I do indeed, but I refuse to acknowledge it's from Nashville. I'll have to talk about this soon.
Looking forward, oh soul sucked one
It's almost funny... No it isnt..
Was that 6 fret 8 fret on the D string does not sound great on my acoustic but probably got it wrong m
You're right, 6 and 8 on the D string.
I thought this was just going to be a demonstration of how to kick a camera into a face.
That comes later.
🤔
I watched and studied that very interview a couple weeks ago.
In the end, I think there's nothing alien in what he does.
It all revolves around jumping, using the same root note, from the natural minor scale to the diminished scale, where you can find the major 3rd and the dim 5th the whole video is about.
If you really wanna use it, you gotta be aware of which one goes where, so learn the chord progression first!
I thought gingers didn't have souls
Cause Homme keeps stealing them!
Dude Seinfeld's back! On youtube
The ultimate compliment!
What is that guitar?
It's like an sctv skit 🤔
Plays twiddle riff.."that's my favourite song off Lullaby ' s.
"That's not even a song."
Hey Sean, I stumbled across a chord last night and was wondering if it’s an actual thing lol.... it’s a Major 7 chord with a minor 3rd added. The way I spelled it was 1-3-5-7-b3. Thanks in advance dude.
One way to spell it is called a major7#9 chord. Not very common, I've never encountered it in a piece.
Mayhem is right on it.
Straight up jazz chord
@@lancelotlink6545 Have you ever seen it in a chart? In my experience, Ive never had to play one.
Mayhem Jensen it kinda has the same effect/vibe as a Minor-maj7 chord.
It seems like you got some heat for this video. I'm not one that really digs the sound besides for the inverted power chord, which I've done for years and didn't know it was a thing. Either way, I feel like you did a great job breaking it down, adding some clever banter and showing how to use it. I don't know what people were expecting. Maybe they just want to be featured in some salty comments? I would say fuck them, but they don't deserve the pleasure sir.
As always, keep up the good work
Thanks so much man!
One up-vote for your comment, AK, 26 up-votes for Chriss Richter's. Just sayin'
Well like you said you're obviously not a Homme fan, that's where people got pissed cause they wanna see vid about a musician they like and it just turns out to be these guys shooting the shit for the most part.
That pedal show tshirt 😁
hommy? really?
Everything is better with cheddar!!! Kung pow baby!!
You know it!
This would have been a good video... That's all I have to say
I'm sorry but that was not that informative.. I was really happy when I saw the title of this video because I couldn't figure out the scale by watching the Guitar Moves episode. But this didn't explain jack shit hahah, can someone please help me out
Haven't watched the video yet but I love the idea of it.
2 notes from this 7min video. the rest was you talking about absolutley nothing
yeah... no.
Cheddar Kung Pao! :D
Thiz is a jokae with all the talkze 😮 ridiculous
Gingers? "Extra" notes? Wtf dude...
more riffs, less talk
Bad teaching is not funny.
