    We Indians have been using soapnuts for many years... we soak them overnight in an iron vessel with Amla (Indian gooseberry) as it makes the hair black/darker and enriches the hair with vitamins. Whether you boil or soak, make sure you strain it well as the tiny particles stuck on your clothes OR hair can be annoying if not rinsed well...as pets aren’t the most patient at bath times. The famous Indian shampoo uses equal parts of the following:
    Reetha (Soap nuts)
    Dry Amla (Indian Gooseberry)
    Shikakai (Acacia concinna)

      @@ilkeracar6567 That is correct. However, do check each batch. Sometimes you need extra Reetha (for "soapier" experience, sometimes less.) When I make my shampoos, I like it really soapy, so I add a handful of soap nuts extra. I also boil fenugreek for the "slimey" effect. So, whether it is a shampoo, hand wash, dish washing liquid, washing liquid for clothes, body wash... whatever you use it for, make a small batch and see for yourself what you like. Nothing says a dish soap is not a floor cleaning liquid. You can improvise with lemon juice, baking soda, vinegar... ALL good. :-) But yes, 33% each is a good start.

    In india we always used only soap nuts as a shampoo. I did not even know about shampoo bottles. BUT we always apply warm oil, lot of it, on hair a night before shampooing. This is important because soapnuts take out the oil, if you have extremely oily hair you may not need to oil your hair but otherwise you must oil your hair. Oiling hair is good in general for hair.

Although, I have to say that the Himalayan region is not very congenial weather for the soapnut tree to grow. Because the sunny months are very few in this region.

      For your information all diseases are psychological according to metaphysical doctors and I have found that this is true, look at the word itself "dis-ease".
      However, that is not to say that the physical symptoms that people suffer due to dis-ease are not real. And it's not their fault that they don't know that it is their thinking feeling patterns that are causing the dis-ease, because almost all of us have not been taught this in our modern societies.
      In modern societies they do not treat diseases holistically the look at a disease as a separate problem in the body and treat it with chemicals or surgeries.

    Hi! Thank you for the great video! Just one small thing... you CAN put them in cold water, and they will work realy good then as well. I always wash my clothes at 30 or 40 degrees, and it's no problem, you can actually use the nuts more often in cold water then in hot water. I have also had them foam in regular cold tapwater as well...

      +WhiteWolf75 The website says to soak them in warm water for 2-3 min before using in cold.

      I'm curious, without removing the soap nuts from the wash, how does the soap get rinsed from the clothes? Thanks.

      @cindy4175 Před 7 lety +6

      That's actually a really good question, I never thought about that... I don't know if it's actually necessary, because I never had any problems with it, and my clothes come out much softer than with normal detergent. And maybe you only need to rinse out the detergent because it's made of chemicals. The soap nuts are natural, so maybe it's not necessary...
      Does anyone know more about this..?

    • @MelisaNielsen
      @MelisaNielsen Před 7 lety +6

      I use mine in cold and they do last longer. It doesn't actually have a film and isn't really soap so it doesn't need rinsing. I have been using them for over a month and my clothes are smelling great.

      +hamie58 that's what the soak part on most washers are for ;) the nuts will just sit for about 2 minutes in my water after it's filled, THEN it'll get to washing.

    Hello darling!
    I am from Brasil so my english is not very good... Hehehe
    First, I want to thank you for this video. It helps me a lot. I was not able to find some recipe of soapnut shampoo until I find your video. For now, I already simmered the soapnuts and I'm wainting it cool down... \o/
    Well, I was wondering here, watching your video again, that my "soapnuts concetrate" results in less liquid than yours... And I would like to ask you: in this video, what is the proportion of fruits and water? And another question... did you let the pan opened or closed while the fruits were simmering? In some moment of "my simmering", the soap nuts was in so little water than I had to pass it for another pan! hahahaha
    I tryied 2 hands of soanuts and 3 cups of water!
    Well, thank you a lot for your share, and when I find my "ideal recipe" I will make a video and make sure you will be in the description, with a mention of thanks!
    Kisses and see ya!

    soak the nuts in the water overnight after boiling for an even better concentrate - and squeeze the nuts as much as you can - smoosh them around with your hands and squeeze, squeeze, squeeze to get the most out. Then put in jar and use.

    Does it work in a front loading washer? You can't take them out once it starts.
    Does anyone know if the foam lasts for the shampoo?

      Hi
      You can use 1 cup of the nut soap concentrate for a medium load wash in washing machine . Water temperature could be warm or cold doesn’t matter
      And we have here hard water supply and soap nuts are working quite well .

    Do I need to keep the whipped stuff in the fridge for it to last long? how long does it take it to go rancid and can I use anything to preserve it? thank you for the great ideas!

      I read somewhere that you can keep it in the fridge for up to 6 months. And you can just use the ice-cubes right away, just put them with the laundry, they will melt when hot water is added.
