A used Fiat 500 Abarth is a hilariously fun $9,000 used car. Today I'm reviewing this 2013 500 Abarth to show you all the cool things about it -- and I'm showing you why you should get a used 500 Abarth.

I absolutely ADORE my Abarth. I have been considering what next car I would buy, but I have a hard time finding anything as stealthy-fun as my 2015. I drive it HARD and it never attracts the attention of the po-po. And, as hard as I drive it, I am getting nearly 40MPG consistently.

Reliability on 7/5 score: Thursday. Or on par with upper class BMW :)
I'm pushing 40k miles now and haven't had any reliability issues yet. Just oil every 5-7k miles.
Though with parts that are waaaaaaay cheaper if anything does start to mechanically fail. I mean, it is a new gen car. Mechanically everything built since 2010 from any large manufacturer (yes, even FCA), barring huge engineering oversights, is bulletproof.

I bought my 2013 Abarth new in July of 2013, with 101 miles. In the next few days, it'll be turning 68,000 miles. I've driven this car from Seattle to SoCal, to Salt Lake City, even a 6200 mile road trip to Wisconsin. I've taken this car camping more times than I can count. I've hauled things that you'd never dream of (always taking pics). I've had a couple of intermittent electric gremlins that occurred early on a couple of times, and then have not returned. I've had some trim issues that I've been able to resolve on my own. And zero mechanical issues. I knew when I bought this car, the 'reputation' of FIAT, but I didn't care. I'm also aware of the haters of this car/brand, and honestly, let 'em hate. This car has brought me the kind of driving joy and experience I never thought I have, coupled with a tiny footprint, yet capable cargo (you'd be surprised how much you can fit in one). Last November I left my 9-5 job to start doing delivery with Amazon, using my Abarth. I took out the passenger and rear seats-and the amount of boxes I can fit is the same amount people are putting in much larger vehicles. I use and abuse this car daily. I'm horrible with maintenance. Maybe my Abarth is an exception to the 'rule' but this car has happily taken everything I've done to it, and keeps going. Every single time I drive my car for deliveries, I am the luckiest man in the world...getting paid to drive the car I love. I have confidence that even with my maintenance 'schedule' that my Abarth will be around for many reliable years and miles.
dude,i totally want to do what you do
Yeah I feel the same as you man... in my case people say turbocharged subarus aren't reliable but I abuse my 22b (I like to daily drive it...and sometimes I use it to destroy gt86 fanboys)
Maybe I guess that's because negative impressions are way more listened than the good ones
Todd Boley my 13 just hit 68k and it’s been the most reliable and fun car I’ve ever owned
Do not use a fiat Abarth to deliver. Get a prius for that job. You'll remember this comment when you depreciate your fiat beyond sellable real soon.
You'd be surprised at how much I can fit in a shoebox too

I just recently bought a 2015 convertible in automatic and the engine makes me smile ear to ear every time I start it
automatic :/
@@jesseflores9087 what I like automatics manuals are good to but I prefer an auto in a car like this
I love the unbroken line of the _500_ logo on the door sills. Simple - yet elegant and exquisite - Italian design.
0-60 in about 6.6 seconds should be better than a 2 in acceleration. Not blazing, but certainly quick.
That's actually pretty damn quick, it's comparable to entry level mustangs from 2000s. With a tune this thing could hit about 200hp and would be blisteringly quick, a blast to drive, a really good city car and would be a somewhat sleeper. If i had the money and not the love for the alfas I'd get myself one instantly
There is no in-between with this guy! It's either 7/8 for 4 seconds or 2 for 6 sec
My 2010 mazda 3 sedán does it in 7,7 so... No so fast at all
My stock Abarth breaks loose in second gear. It also feels very stable at high speeds.
He has an acceleration scale he uses for every review. Below 3 seconds is a 10/10, 3-3.5 is a 9/10, 3.6-4 seconds is an 8/10, 4.1-4.5 seconds is a 7/10, and so on. Anything slower than about 7 or 7.5 seconds gets a 1/10
Only Doug reviews totally different cars...last month a Rolls Royce Phantom, this week a $9000 tiny FIAT...and some day he reviews the FORD T MODEL ;)
modelllichtsysteme & don’t forget regular car reviews
RCR reviewed a model T

Some say Ford asked Doug to give the Model T the Doug score, but he refused to see the car because it had no cup holders.
I just drove one yesterday and it was the most fun I've ever had driving a car!
Miata is more fun IMO. RWD is better for dancing in the corners.
In italy there are still original Abarth from '60 around. You would love it! You can't image how loud they are, you can't talk inside them, really. And the trunk doesn't evaven close, is always 20 mm open, in order to fit its huge 595 cc engine. Most brave people reached 130 km/h on those little boxes. Unfornunately, no one survived.

The issue with these cars is that after a few thousand miles, they fall abarth.
Legendary.

Actually they hold their value pretty well. A friend of mine here in Italy just got a 30k€ model, I was skeptical but it is really good. 180hp, cabrio, really fun and way better crafted that doug’s one.
You have to own one to know one. This is a future classic.
I have the 500e, try to race me to the next light if you dare.
I have a 2013 and it is the most fun you can have in a car. Drive it hard all the time and 29.9 mpg. Also it has been extremely reliable. Going on my 5th set of tires and I replaced the rear wheel bearings myself. I had 2 warranty issues other than that. Mine appears to be in much better shape than the one he tested. I now have 106k on mine and still drive it like I borrowed it from someone I moderately respect. This car makes you smile every time.
Sadly they dont last that long to be future. It kinda depends on how ppl treat them tho.
I have a 2013 Sport with all the bells and whistles... basically an Badgeless Abarth. 48k miles on it
I owned a smart fortwo for a little a while back. Feels like this car, except half the size and power lol. Paddle shifters, a wonky sluggish transmission that almost feels like a manual, rear wheel drive, mid engine....mini sports car! Was a fun little thing to drive though, and turned a lot of heads. Especially when parking and they see a 6'3" man stepping out of it!

Came down here for this. Now, back up to finnish the video!
My brother, a driving instructor, has a 2012 Abarth 500, which he`s had from new, it's done 220,000 miles, the only breakdown he`s had was a capillary pipe clip breaking on the thermostat housing at around 160,000 miles, that was repaired at the side of the road with a jubilee clip which is still there, I also took the catalyst off at 200,000 miles & it was literally as new inside, a compression test was done around the same time, the readings were still within factory tolerances. so they are reliable cars (as long as you service them correctly).
Its had a couple of engine sensors go (temp & cam position), as well as an alternator, but when they went, it didn't stop the car, just put warnings on the dash &/or made it run a little rougher. Yes, some of the trim looks flimsy, but it does last (yours doesn't look like it was very well looked after)
Yes, there's been minor annoyances, like a couple of door handle hinges & seat release levers breaking (has levers on his, not webbed straps), has occasional issues with the bluetooth, but overall it's been a great, reliable car that suffers new drivers every day who abuse it without flinching.
Sadly it was rear ended (lightly) at the beginning of the year by an Audi & written off by the insurance company (largely because they undervalued it due to the mileage), but we had it back from them & I`ll get round to repairing it soon, because we're trying to get it up to half a million miles on the original running gear 😁
I`m from a Fiat family, between us we`ve had loads, & contrary to popular belief, they more reliable (when looked after) than many "premium" cars, like VAG... Sadly, because of their reputation, they`re very cheap on the used market, & because they`re so cheap, people are reluctant to spend money on even basic servicing, which is a shame, because when you do look after them, you basically have a car for life.
And as you found out, they give you joy to drive, as do 99% of Italian cars! 😎
Glad I have a 2015 one as my first car
Really who seat and read your comment, I liked it thow
Amazingly well put out , sir! People underestimate them, but value and the amount of fun for the money is unbelievable.
I had a Fiat Bravo 1.4 TJet (same engine as the 500 Abarth) and literally had 0 problems in 8 years and 220000Km, I've only done the regular maintenance. When I sold it, it was still running perfectly. Interesting, the Mercedes C class that replaced the Bravo had many issues despite the fact it costs 4 times more. I decided to sell it after 5 years to avoid getting into expensive repairs out of warranty...
I agree in that my 2013 Abarth with 93k has had less issues than my 2014 GLI with 72k. Both are tuned, the Abarth has Eurocompulsion installed at 13k and the GLI Unitronic stage 2 ECU and TCU at 50k. The Fiat, 1 window regulator under warranty, one clutch line not under warranty, one set of front brake pads. The GIi, one battery under warranty, one starter which was not under warranty, subwoofer rattle not under warranty, two sets of front brake pads, center cupholder is broken, driver seat wear is horrible on the bolster, and now I have the timing chain rattle. The Gli is faster, but the Abarth has my heart. If I sell it I will either buy another or go to a Alfa 4C.
I love my Fiat 500
The little hole in the middle of the dash is the microphone for the hands-free calling feature, which is controlled from the steering wheel. The volume control for the radio is also on the back of the steering wheel, as are other controls for the radio/CD player/ MP3 player. You don't need to reach out to the radio to control the volume.

I've had mine for 4 years and everyday I get into it I smile. That thing is so much fun.
I’m looking for a first car, you should do more of these vids for under 10k
Aidan Wallington good luck with that mate.
It may be under 10k to buy - but as a first car, this is probably going to be difficult and expensive to insure...
And Doug said enough about quality.
It may sound like a funny idea when Doug the fashion statement talks about it - but it's really annoying if you have to make choices all the time if you want to spend on repairs again - or allow it to crumble away...
There are enough really good cars around for that kind of money...
No Troll fiat quality is OK, they last forever... Noone knows if the mileage of this car is original and if maybe it's owner was a butcher... FIAT engines are bulletproof, stereotypes about Fiat breaking Down are Just stereotypes, no truth in it. How maby fiat cars did Doug own to talk about quality problems? Maybe never a si gle one!
Mihael koštrun fiats are prices of crap, that is a fact. The engines aren’t near bulletproof lasting about 100k miles (you want bulletproof, buy a Toyota). And anyways, how many old fiats driving around (spoiler alert, there’s none). Lastly, Chrysler vehicles are known for being unreliabe.
Mihael koštrun also I highly doubt that the mileage was rolled back on a 5 year old car.

Just bought the 500 turbo, 130hp, its definitely a fun car to drive from point "A" to point "WEE"!
Fun fact. This car is one of the most rust resistant cars ever made. They galvanized the whole frame in the process of making this car.
@footballcoreano you are full of crap
@footballcoreano angry because you tried claiming a car reached 2 million with no maintenance? No thats just physically and mechanically impossible
@footballcoreano im an automotive engineer...and you are talking out your ass like an ignorant child
Didnt know that. Rust is a big issue in Sweden for example because we use salt in the winter to make the roads safer. It eats up your car. I have an old Mercedes clk 320 and well, Mercedes have had big problems with rust.
The panels at every wheel is eaten up in the corners by rust. Im Lucky that a previous owner did a rust treatment on the under carriage, no problems there atleast.
Well my point was, I think its pathetic that we have to put up with car manufactures producing cars that rusts. That shouldnt be a thing.
We already have to put up with shit quality overall Having to spend thousands of dollars changing parts because they are not built to last
Fiats, at least the ones made in italy and europe, are very sturdy actually, i have a friend who has a 2003 punto with 1 million kilometers, only having minor issues.
Got a red one just after seeing this 2 years ago for $7200. I figured the depreciation (mileage) of our 4 series BMW and GLA45 AMG would amount to the same purchase price. It was a no-brainer of epic proportions. 33mpg no matter how you drive it, a hoot on back roads, as quick as my old Focus ST (it was modded and coiled before I got it) and it gets commented on constantly. This video has 2.5M views and 9,100 comments, heck Jay Leno and his wife owned 2. Nuff said.
Hey- how reliable was the Abarth for you? Seems like they’ve really kept their value but I’m just concerned about the reliability. Thanks!
In 2016 I bought an Abarth Cabrio - 20,000 miles, clean carfax, $10,200. Have not done a thing except for maintenance to it in 4 years and it is great. The only new car that just makes you smile when you drive it. Not that fastest, not the best built, not the best handling - but just plain fun!
I rented one of these to take on a trip in the mountains. it handled SO well on the windy roads and it made the trip so much more fun. I beat the hell out of that little car. I put over 1500 miles on it in the 10 days I drove it.
I bet it cost you a lot of fuel
The one I rented had horrible suspension. It crashed and bottomed over bumps and dips, kicking the car off-course. Also tons of body roll. Felt like I was sitting on top of the car instead of in it. If you live somewhere where the roads aren't beat up, I guess it'd be fine, but otherwise....

I bought a 2013 Abarth Cabriolet with 35,500 miles because of this video, only two months after buying a 2013 Toyota Avalon Limited. The Toyota has been covered since the Fiat purchase. This little car is a thrill to drive every single day, especially after adding some relatively cheap mods (GoPedal, ECU, air filter, exhaust). Thanks Doug!
Hip Hop History why exhaust when the stock is already one of the strong selling points of the car?
If you have any fiats or alfas check out eurocompulsion they have great products and great tunes
Jonathan Deschenes Ik I’m not Hip Hop History lol, but it’s probably cause the stock exhaust is about 1.75 inches in diameter so he probably got something with a little more flow.
I added front lower and side chassis braces. A big red bar stabilizer in the back. Makes a whole lot of difference. No engine mods, yet.
@@Motosthetic ah, the old Fiat problem, all the pipes are too tight. On the other hand, how much flow do you really need for a 1000cc engine, even with a turbo like this one? I've seen many of those cars where the owner just destroyed the performance by adding big exhausts because the original looked "tiny" (but worked fine).
I love my 2013 Abarth, I have a white with those wheels and the red decal/mirror caps. I got it used for around $10k and its fun as hell to drive, watching this video makes me want to jump in the car right now. I think that I lucked out in the quality department because yes the interior is cheap but mine still looks fresh unlike that one there, my wheels are also in much better condition. I've been on two road trips from FL to the DMV area and to CT and this car ran strong both times plus the gas mileage is sick, on the longest trip I spent a total of $240 in gas. I also get quite a bit of attention from random people, some actually stop next to me in traffic to talk about it. Everything you said about the exhaust note and sport mode is absolutely true, as for the back seats, I often fold them down for months at a time which increases the exhaust sound in the cabin and when they are up I take out the headrests because they obscure my vision. The car also fits everywhere, I have put it into many different pockets within traffic and parking spaces not meant for normal sized cars. Thank you for talking about it, the car is awesome and I plan to keep mine until it doesn't drive anymore then i'll probably build it into a track car.
BTW I had no idea about the high-beam "lockout".

The driving is more stable and you feel speed bumps less than what you explained. It even has a touchscreen now.
My only complain is the pickup is a bit less than my previous Mini Cooper S. Also the pulls for the back seat still fray unfortunately.

Thank you so much Doug for the inspiration and the great reviews. This is the best sports car I ever own. I got myself one for $4100 under 150,000miles.
As an abarth owner i cannot stress how long i have been waiting for this video!!
Doug is the type of guy to bring shampoo and body wash to an automatic car wash.
Nick Kritikakos lmaoooooo
I’m sold . It’s so much little details in such a reasonably priced car.
Exactly I want one!
I love your videos. I’m a 60 year woman who played with Matchbox cars, not Barbies, as a child. I drove a 1998 Toyota RAV for 22 years, not so much because I was in love with it but because, like Forrest Gump, it just wouldn’t stop runnnn-ayng! When I joined a dating site and became so embarrassed showing up in my old car that I borrowed my mom’s Prius to go on dates, I realized I needed to shop around. I was so attracted to Fiat 500 convertibles and Abarths and test drove quite a few but even the salesmen were telling me horror stories, including personal ones, about engines blowing at 50,000, reluctant dealership service departments and Fiats sitting at said service depts waiting a month for Italian parts to be shipped. That being said - every time I test drove one I. Could. Not. Stop. Grinnnn-ayng! 😁 Especially the Abarth. It’s like you don’t know where your foot ends and the gas pedal begins, they are one. Not kidding. Not waxing poetic. It’s just so much damn fun. What did I end up buying in 2020? A 2016 Mini Cooper Countryman which has turned out to be an oil burner, running out of oil long before I’m due for an oil change, and which has a different warning light just about every time I start it up - so frequently it may as well be a poop emoji at this point 💩 And why do mechanics feel like they can charge twice as much for everything as a normal car? Oh yeah that’s right because it’s a BMW, at least that’s what the mechanics keep telling me. So to make a long story long, here I am looking at Fiat videos again, dreaming about the one that got away. My brain tells me No No No, but my heart says Remember how much FUN it was to drive?!! Family keeps advising me to buy another Toyota, to which I respond when they make a Toyota as cute as a Fiat or Mini Cooper and is as much fun to drive, then I’ll buy another one 🤷🏻♀
Forgot to include this side note - whenever I see someone in town with a Fiat 500 or Abarth, I always ask them how they like it, and so far every single person has said they love the car, they’ve had it forever or bought it with a lot of miles on it and have never had any problems with it! SO confusing, especially when you hear this but your brain keeps reminding you that every mechanic you’ve asked about Fiats says they won’t even work on them 🥺
@@Angela-jn7iv Find one in good condition and learn how to work on it yourself. I bought my 2015 Abarth in 2020 at the age of 54 with only an hour's worth of lifetime experience driving a manual. This thing is a blast to own and drive! My favourite part is highway on-ramps! The car produces tons of exhaust noise and exceeds the speed limit before it even reaches the highway! 😂
I have a 500 turbo, and it’s a blast! As for speed, I have to be careful, because I’ll be 90 before I know it. It takes corners great and mountains also! The look on people’s faces when I pass on mountains is hilarious!
I can imagine my dad complaining 'that little peicd of shit fiat IS OVER TAKING ME?! I WILL RACE YOU LITTLE CAR' and then lose...

@@craigstevenson7708 It's as fast as a 2003-2007 ACCORD V6 auto . 0-60 and 1/4 mile. But it's faster than my 2002 manual 530i LOL
I cannot recommend this car enough for anyone who is a true petrol/gear head. I have had two, a 160bhp and a 180bhp, (Turismo, Competizione), both truly great cars that you really can take right to the red line and chuck around corners. I would however advise that any wishing to purchase one, should also purchase the optional Monza exhaust, you will not be disappointed!
SuperCarIsland are they fast man?
you recommend this car to gearheads you cruel CRUEL MAN ... SHAME ON YOU
No one should EVER recommend an FCA product. NO ONE. How dare you.
Daniel Mariscal for a hatch back? Yes they are, but only if you take then into the race track or twisted roads, this things are made for corners
TheRedHuskie "for a hatch back" ok...
Love my Abarth. +50hp, more roll stiffness, much better tires.
280,000 miles, revved to redline literally every day and autocrosses and tracked often.
And actually, with the front seats pulled forward, the back seat is surprisingly roomy.
This is Awesome...how did you increase hp, roll stiffness, and what wheel tire combo are you running. Thanks!!
280k? Did u replace the engine lol
I have a 2013 Fiat 500 pop with almost 70,000 miles that is in way better condition than the one in the video. I picked mine up from an R title lot, gave it some love and care, and it's been great ever since. Also a few things:
That "hole" by the buttons on the dash is for the speaker for the voice recognition.
The cupholders he pointed out are the REAR cupholders. I don't know about his specific 500, but every other one I've seen has had two cupholders under the gearshift/center collumn. Plus a little slot that's perfect for a wallet or a cell phone.
There are buttons behind the steering wheel that control the radio: channel on left, volume on right. It's way easier to use those than the buttons on the dash.
Also, while mentioning weird stuff, how did you not mention the switches for the windows? They're on the center collumn for some reason.
Finally there is an AUX port and a usb port in the glovebox. Its way in the back and lights up when the car is on. It took me months to find the damned thing. I only noticed it when I happened to look at the right angle while changing CDs.
Now we just need a Fiesta ST review!
He’ll rip on the steering wheel the whole time

I love my Fiat 500 !!! Most fun car I have ever had. It feels like you can throw it around ... and it always fits into spaces other cars do not! In the city .... it is the greatest car ever! It loves parking lots and gas station lots .... Hell .... I have driven this car down sidewalks and out on piers! Absolute riot to drive the Fiat 500 !!! Low resale .... makes these cars a genuine value! Had this car up to 100+ on the freeway ... no problem! Not the best car I ever owned.... but ... certainly the the most fun! It is like driving around in a really badass golf cart! I love this car!
To be fair. The following editions like the 2019 I own, fixed a ton of stuff! Now it has a touchscreen with great options, easy to use and surprisingly reliable for a Uconnect product. Plastics quality also feels better. Now it comes with 4 cup-holders 2 front 2 back and two foldable arm rests that feel better in quality than the one pictured. All in all this car WILL become a future collectible and if you can get one 2018+, get it now. These are being abused for being so cheap and soon there will be none left out on the street
11:39 was pretty traumatizing.
8:12 - autoclose: locks the doors over 12mp/h / 20 km/h when you take off
10:51 - ambient temp. sensor for the climate control
Thanks, Doug, you sold this car to me. I couldn't afford the Abarth trim but with time and hard work, I was able to pick up a 2012 Prima Edizione for a reasonable price from its amazing previous owner.
“The hood release is red color because Fiat knows that you will be using it a lot “ 😂
Honestly, that is very true. I own a Fiat 500 2012
I can add some other things I noticed in quality failure of the Fiat 500. (from my Fiat I own)
- When playing songs with some bass, some of the plastic interior covers begins rattering around.
- The door handle breaks almost guaranteed after X years and you have to replace the whole door handle system by removing the door covers and such
- The reverse gear isn't really synchronized and you're grinding the teeth if you put in the reverse while the car still moves a bit
- The fiat emblem at the front and trunk begins to fade after some years
- The quality of the turn signal handle is just utter crap. Even if you drive a cheap VW it is 5x better than the one in the Fiat (if you have the steering wheel in a weird position and try to use the turn signal, it makes a loud CRACK)
- The AC is constantly smelling bad even tho it gets serviced every year
- The lock on the fuel filler cap is easily pickable, basically the lock does not work. If you use enough force, you can get it open aswell
- The right passenger seat is sometimes squeaking when someone drives with you
@@OxySynth is it fun to drive though? One day I would like to rent one.
@@omarvasquez6851 Except the quality issue, yeah! It is! Everyone should drive one of those once in their life. I really love the driving, the steering and it really does make fun to drive it. You do not have to have a big car to have fun, this is all you need, honestly. I also love it for that, only if there weren't those quality issues, I would still buy it in the future
@@OxySynth 😎👍
That smile on Doug's face is what makes a car a true driving car. Something that is that fun and even makes you laugh!
I think that 500 has been abused by previous and careless owners. I had a 2008 500 Sport with double the mileage and it was pretty rattle free, especially with crappy British road surfaces. They’re incredibly popular here and definitely better for reliability than Fiats of old.
RichieT5 As you say it depends how it's been treated, I had a used one with 9k on the clock and the gearbox went after 2 days!! Must have had a hard life for those 9000 miles.
Castiel Rocks It also depends on the region. European and early Mexican and Brazilian 500s were made in Poland by Fiat while later Mexican and Brazilian and US/Canadian market 500s are made in Mexico by Chrysler.
yeah mine is rattle free at 58000
The gearbox issue was a known fault on early Abarth models, they broke quite a lot early on and can be quite notchy when cold. I have a Punto Abarth and it's been pretty steady so far (2010 model and I've still got it).
I got a 2012 500 sport used and (im in America) and its like new 48,000 miles (my family drives our cars to the ground so 200,000+ is usual), only had to put in a starter and a new alternator 100% happy with mine, seems like the past owner of yours was a boy racer
The pure excitement this little car brought you made my day. That laugh. 😂
I'm watching every video he's put out on this channel. This is the first one that made me laugh out loud, with his quip about the hood release and how it would be frequently used since it is a Fiat Chrysler product.
Doug the type of guy to say a 500 Abarth is better looking than a brand new ZR1
DougScore Style: 500 Abarth: 7/10 - Corvette Z06: 6/10
What?
Raphael Rosa He gave the ZR1 a six also
Evan Hooper Raphael is agreeing with you, reread the comment without the preconceived notion of being argumental.
I gotta give it a 2/10
To be honest, it is.
I've been waiting like 2 years for this video!!! 😊 FINALLY!!!!!!!!
One of my favorite videos you did
This is probably the happiest I've ever seen him while driving a Car (and I've been watching since 2016)
as a 2013 Abarth owner, i have never stopped smiling the second i step in (my daily car!). although, my rims are in way better condition, and i dont have the fraying seat strap issue.
i do love the shifter and the sound it makes though, and oddly enough it needs to be driven hard. too lightly and the car starts to feel like its falling apart... drive it harder and it seems to pick itself up and feel... healthier.
its a really odd little car, but i love it!
No 500 driver ever uses the stereo dash controls. They're all on the back of the steering wheel.
very true, even with the touch screen on my 2019.
Owned a 500 for years now, Doug literally describes that car just how I would. This was so much fun to watch.
Great review.
I drove a regular 500 as a rental car and it was a hoot in city driving. "Zippy" I called it. The maneuverability in the tightest of parking and traffic situations made it great in a big city.
But those are a lot of quirks. And given the likely demographic who drove them (young hot-rodders) I would expect those 40k miles to have been some pretty rough miles, and therefore some pretty good wear and tear on everything.
Interesting fact about the Abarth logo... Carlo Abarth made his name performance-tuning the Fiats of the day, which were mostly rear-engined. Hence in the cars, as with the scorpion, the sting was in the tail. Abarth has an interesting history, well worth looking up, that makes the new Abarth models easier to understand... they're very much in the spirit of the race-winning originals.
