Every leg for the Canadians was perfect, but what impressed me the most was Robert (Blast Off) Esmie's start. It was incredible. Bruny knew that when the exchange with Donovan was clean, nobody was going to catch Bailey.

I remember the American TV coverage before the race essentially speculating on how large the margin of victory was going to be for the American team. They basically dismissed the Canadians. A few minutes later they were in utter disbelief.
I was at the semifinals the previous evening. Though Team USA looked strong as always, Canada cruised through their heat and won easily. Wasn't really surprised that they won the gold.
The guy from Canada that handed off to the anchor leg already knew they were going to win when the anchor leg took off after the pass. He threw his hands up!!
It didn't matter if Carl Lewis ran anchor or not....they were way behind after 3rd leg against Donovan Bailey..who won 100m gold and was world record holder.......
Carl Lewis lol...you gotta be kidding me. This was Bailey peak, faster than Lewis ever ran, and he had a running start. No one in the world was gonna catch him...in fact, nobody in history would have caught him except possibly Usain Bolt.
Facts!! I was telling people the same thing before this race. And if I'm not mistaken, Donovan Bailey have broke the world record in the hundred that year. THE U. S. Didn't have a chance!
The U.S. had a very deep team and historically they always won this race unless they messed up the baton exchange. However, they definitely didn't do the math on this one because you're right, their chances were not good!
Possibly though Michael usually ran the 4x400 relay. Don't know if Michael ever practiced with the 4x100 team. Hard to just drop somebody in without any practice, given the importance of baton passing
I love when Canada steals the glory at Olympics held in the US. They won the two biggest events at this Olympics and won both the mens and womens golds in hockey in Salt Lake City in 2002 which they did again in Vancouver in 2010.

As a born and raised Canadian and a huge fan of all sports this event still takes the cake for me as my most memorable moments.
Donovan bailey had some of the best sprint mechanics
Bailey looks tremendous in full stride
It's a shame Lewis didn't anchor in 1996. That would have been great to see Lewis and Bailey in full flight. Both had brilliant strides.

Looking great CANADA!!!!! Amazing job guys!!!!!
The Canadians showed tremendous team coordination.
Donovan Bailey was flying in that anchor leg.
The shock in Olympic stadium....marvelous.
Not shock. Arrogance! Not sure how the Americans thought they would win.
@@bisoafuayaa74 To be frank, the Americans always feel they can win.
It's part of their makeup.
It's a fine line between confidence and arrogance.
@@BrimHawk that’s what it means to be an American.
Go shovel the 12 feet of Arctic off your driveway

Canadians could have potentially broken the world record if not for the show boating at the end
Canada! 😀🙋❤

Bruny surin on that 3rd leg for Canada burned up the track
The Canadian 3rd handed over to Bailey and raised his hands in celebration.
Bruny Surin. One of the fastest of all time.
So did the first guy, if you watch closely
The guy from Canada that handed off to the anchor leg already knew they were going to win when the anchor leg took off after the pass. He threw his hands up!!
I remember that. Bruny Surin was already celebrating because he handed the baton first and Baily run faster than Mitchell. No way was Canada losing.
Brasil ! Third place ! Robson Caetano and his last Olympic Summer Games !
Robson Caetano é até hj o melhor velocista que o Brasil já teve
Bruny Surin!!! Thank you Canada
Jon Drummond's leg was unreal!
The way that race unfolded, GB had a shout at Silver if we didn't drop the baton in the semis!
Tim harden was my classmate and track teammate and he was always a great runner
Love to see it
Dennis Mitchell knew he didn't have closing speed or speed - Carl Lewis surely miss😳

Carl Lewis was past it in terms of sprinting. He wouldn’t have made a difference to the overall result.

If one leg was replaced with Carl Lewis, I think the outcome could've been much different.
🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦
Carl Lewis should have been in this race!
He was wise not too, watching Bailey from behind would be no fun. :-)
Why did Ghana get disqualified for?
They inserted a runner that wasn’t on the list submitted for the final.
I wonder what the time would’ve been if Bailey didn’t celebrate and ran through the line ?
I wonder that too.
A new world record probably
Probably 37.62 or so. He barely slowed down. 0.0000000000000000% chance they would have broken 37.50.
@@brum23 True. But I still wish he had thrown his arms up after the finish. Cheers from 🇨🇦
America did not even medal in the 100 meter flat but they thought they could win? Delusion!

That’s the American way lol
Не взяли Короля Карла в состав....
If Michael Johnson wasn’t injured, would the USA have picked him for the anchor leg?
Possibly though Michael usually ran the 4x400 relay. Don't know if Michael ever practiced with the 4x100 team. Hard to just drop somebody in without any practice, given the importance of baton passing
does anyone know why the ghanaian athlete was disqualified ?
I think they stated that he wasn't on the team roster...

Fake .. no Jamaican team ..
Has to be the worst US relay team I ever seen!
