- Here's a little trailer I put together in a video editing class a few years ago. I used music by Howard Shore from his Fellowship of the Ring soundtrack: track number 13 - The Bridge of Khazad Dum - 4:45 on the time-code.
This poem was left in one of the comments for this trailer by @SwapMeetFlea -
"'Tis true my form is something odd,
But blaming me is blaming God;
Could I create myself anew
I would not fail in pleasing you."
--This is a rhyme used in Merrick's sideshow pamphlet, and which he is said to have often quoted, followed by these lines by Isaac Watts:
"If I could reach from pole to pole
Or grasp the ocean with a span,
I would be measured by the soul;
The mind's the standard of the man." - Krátké a kreslené filmy
Tears every time, "I am not an Animal, i am a Human being".
His Humanity shone through.
Merrick said many times that the years of Doctor Treves rescuing him from it where the greatest of his life.
"I'm am not an animal. I am a human being"
-John Merrick
I don't think any other film I have watched has made me cry as much as this one. It's a work of art
I always cry for him...I am so amazed how he's doing everything to stay alive..And then about the ending...Couldn't stop crying for like 9 hours.
me too :(
The best piece of acting is when Hopkins just looks and tears in his eyes.genius just that one look
"My life is full...because i know that i am loved."such a good line.
he was more of a human being than the people who taunted and abused him rip joseph merrick
That's just how cruel people really are, never judge a book by its cover also all humans have feelings and rights.
Joseph Merrick is a hero in my eyes he s proof its not all about looks that make a person its their personalty and their heart all my respect to John and may he rest in peace god bless u John
Those who haven't been touched by this intense and sad real story probably never will. David Lyncs slapped us all on our faces to makes us realize how far and brutal man can be and how devoid of pitty so many seem to be all the time. I can't keep from crying every time I see this. It's a terrible reminder of how many must painfully pass without the rest even noticing or caring.Eliwj, big-hearted fellow.
"I am not an animal! I...am a human being!"
One of the most humane films of all time. If David Lynch had never made another film after The Elephant Man, it wouldn't have mattered. This one is enough.
How could anyone treat him like that? I have to see this film. These clips very nearly reduced me to tears.
Still brings me to tears every time I watch it. "My life is full because I know that I am loved."
Excellent trailer too. It in itself is a tear jerker.
a must see movie. touching brilliantly directed amazing acting.
these movie make my cry 😢😢😢
Ha hello
David Lynch is a genius.
I cry by just seeing a short trailer. this is how much this beautifully sad movie gets to me
One of the Best Trailers and works of art that I can watch over and over again. Thanks eliwj!!!
Most moving film ever,
And Hopkins, Hurt and Gielgud. A perfect cast if I ever saw one.
This music fits so well with the trailer
This clip combined with the music from lord of the rings is a thing of beauty
Simply an excelent movie.
This film make me cry everytime that i watched it. Very good film but so sad
Joseph Merrick, you were an absolutely beautiful, gentle person. Your grace and courage is so rare. I admire you so much. I wish I could have known you.
great true story of human dignity what a brave man he was to live at such a time where he was so missunderstood
He faces so much pain, and still did great towards others. That why God love him..
The amount of pain he must of endured. God. That is intense.
if only we could go back in time and tell joseph that he would be remembered forever
WHAT IS THAT WONDERFUL MUSIC ? THIS MAKES ME ALMOST CRY.....
One of the best movies!
Awww.. RIP Joseph Merrick We Love You. You Are Not An Animal Or A Freak. Just Simply A Beautiful Human Being Inside And Out.
Wouldnt surprise me if in a few years they release this film again in 3D. that's probably the best way for a new generation to know josephs story. A remake could never match what made the original so powerful.
I just saw this movie for the first time last night. Dude, I just wanted to tell you that this is so fucking great. You picked an awesome song from an awesome movie and fit it together so well with a very well made trailer. Shivers were sent down my spine.
really good work!!
Such a great movie....well done !!!!
Just saw this movie for the first time last night, GREAT movie! Very touching. Great trailer too, good work man!
the film made me cry my eyes out
none of you would belive this but on most haunted they appernetly made contact with him
thank you for posting this
David lynch never dissappoints
this movie gives a great lesson to all, no matter what you look like, you are who you are, a human being. never to judge by looks, but by the personality and soul
Top class cast. John Hurt can play just about any character a very talented actor
@eliwj I love your own trailer you made of "The Elephant Man" (1979) a lot, eliwj. It's a total keeper & I love the scenes & music you picked for your trailer. The music totally blends in with some of the scenes from that movie for sure. & you have inspired me so much & your trailer has given me some ideas for my own trailers I'd love to create someday. I took editing classes 3 years ago & was working on a trailer. However I haven't totally finished it yet. Please do keep this posted on youtube & thanks a million once again. This trailer is also very helpful for those to know & understand that it's not always such a problem being different compared to other people. Even those who would be considered misfits & outsiders. Also of course people who look scary & freaky in their appearance but they happen to be people who are sweet, innocent & attractive inside.
Please don't remove it at all.
"If you want to know what it's like to get repeatedly punched in your soul, watch this movie".
Aye, nothing much changes in mans inhumanity to man.
Awww i cried at that film xx
when i was little my father had me watch this for the first time. and afterwards he asked me, "if you lived in that itme, and met The Elephant Man how would you react?" my answer was honest and from the heart. I said "I WOULD be frightnened at first, but that is only because i don't know what to think. so if my personality would be the same in that life as it is in this, i would want to educate myself by spending some time with him. after all ignorance id fear in my opinion" i was about 11.
when you watch the movie and get known to john merrick, his character and look, than later you don't notice his appearance anymore..you just start to like him and feel sorry...i really like his hand and eyes.
when I first saw this I cried so much,it still brings a tear to my eye thinking about it,that poor man
thanks for taking your time to respond, this movie impacted me so much that I wanted to learn more about him, and I also wanted to verify if it's a genuine biographic movie. I realized psalm 23 was one of his favorite, which in my opinion is one of the most powerful verses found in the whole bible
I remember when I was about three this was playing on tv and had a temper tantrum because my parents wouldn't let me watch this, so they gave in. It really frightened me but now I know his deformation wasn't quite as bad as I reacted to it then.
after i watched that movie i realize that it is worth it to live and thanks to you John Merrick you are my hero you have shown us the strength in your heart and the courage i wished i could save you from those bad pepole and that it had never happened to you and you inspired us and you where truly worth living for.... god bless you John Merrick and i will pray to you
Amazing! Excellent job!
you did a VERY GOOD JOB. THIS MOVED ME IN SO MANY WAYS
This trailer is sensitively put together, yet it catches the interest of the viewer. The words from the film go so poignantly with the pictures. Much better than the ''official'' trailers. Very well done. Everyone should see this beautiful film, even if its not completely accurate - the story of a very brave and lovely man.
This video has a message,Never judge a man by what he looks but who he is on the inside
Oh thank you so much for giving me a chance of finding that masterpiece. The Bridge of Khazad Dum that voice is marvellous, simply undescribable. I heard that melody somwhere long ago in the past and wouldn't even had a chance to find it not knowing how to reffer it, hadn't you put it into description. I'm very very grateful)
I can watch this trailer a hundred times!
Yes. Joseph was a very religious man. His mother had been a Sunday school teacher.Towards the end of his life( as he became more clumsy & weak from his condition) his belief became even more important to him. He attended Sunday services, while in the vestry, not with the rest of the congregation, & enjoyed visits from the hospital chaplain, the Rev Valentine. It's very clear his mother's influence on him regarding his religious belief was very strong, esp towards the end.
Watched this film today. What a masterpiece. David Lynch is a genius.
Great movie, excellent piece of music, a story full of tears... and love
A Classic with a message for all.
Make a point to watch this film.
You wont regret it.
this was such a sad movie, even for me i dont normally cry whilst watching movies. but damn! i did
And of course it fits the trailer so well. Along with the video it has got even deeper into my soul and it moved me so much. Very good job
"My life is full because I know I am loved."
I do not see an "Elephant man".
I just see a man.
I see a man who knows what true kindness means.
What TRUE, beauty means.
thank you poster, the music went with the film clip very well!!
what a brave man he must have been :) thanx for uplodin this
wow the soundtrack fits the trailer perfecly
every time i feel like crying
One should not judge another by the shell on the outside, but by the pearl on the inside.
looking at the ups and downs of John Merricks life has got to be a completly turning life in the way us kids think, meaning how we shud think more greatful and... ......just BE GREATFUL
*I AM NOT AN ANIMAL!*
Wonderful film about humanness!
Wow. Great Trailer. Very inspiring.
Absolutely beautiful. They should use this instead of the actual trailer, this is far more emotional.
Awesome video man! great choice of music!
most of the people are talking aout how good this traile is put together and i dont disagree its very nicely done but this trailer is about dignity and respect...
Best film 🎥 ever.
So sad 😢 but true...
That movie made me cry, seriously!( Poor poor guy...
He had Proteus Syndrome, and possibly Neurofibromatosis 1 as well. He was a perfectly formed baby. The signs of his condition began when he was about 2 years old, when a large lump appeared on his lower lip - this spread as a hard tumour into Joseph's right cheek until the lip was pushed outwards by this growth. The various signs of deformity on other parts of his body progressed rapidly with each passing year.
This used to scare me when I was little! Now im not scared at all! Poor man! Rest in peace!
Beautiful.
Awesome work! This was a touching movie, and your trailer captures it in a modern manner. Very good job :-)
amazing job! i just read elephant man for summer reading and this trailer is beautiful!
well done :)
@SwapMeetFlea My goodness are these lines from the movie. I love it!!
Apart from medical papers, Treves wrote his famous''The Elephant Man and Other Reminiscences'', which you can read on line at several sites, just type in the title in Google. It was written when he was old, and there's a lot of artistic licence in it and some inaccuracies, but it's great to read, and gives an insight into his relationship with Merrick, as he called him on a daily basis, and of course gives an account of Joseph's condition.Joseph also has an autobiography, which featured in...
It does not matter his appearence because in his life he showed compassion and gentleness and more civility that any of those that called him "animal", he believed in god consistently even when life dealt with blow after blow. how can you call someone an animal when they create such beautiful things? and say such amazing words?
I saw this last night by the end I was weeping, something i shouldn't have to be afraid of doing but i have that Im a man so i must not cry thing
John Hurt is amazing
Joseph Merrick was originally thought to be suffering from elephantiasis. In 1971, Ashley Montagu suggested in his book The Elephant Man: A Study in Human Dignity that Merrick suffered from neurofibromatosis type I, a genetic disorder also known as von Recklinghausen's disease.
One of the best films (and i mean the "very best" film) of all time. No question.
In 2002, a television research team, along with genealogists, put out a BBC appeal to trace the Merrick family line. In response to the appeal, a Leicester resident named Pat Selby was discovered to be the granddaughter of Merrick's uncle.
He was a good kid, people can be cruel bastards.
He was meant to to, and for what he did for science, ,
what we are goes so much deeper than bone.
man i wanna see this movie...
ps: "im not an animal, i am a human been"
thats my favorite line, and thats why we dont have to reject others, beacause were're all the same, but we have fear to what is different and what we can't understand...
Like Hopkins in this masterpiece, and lynch´s direction.
at the end, he proved who was the true monster.
A Compelling Film About Human Alienation
Its so sad that John died so young, he was just a normal person under a unpleasant looking mask.John your great dude R.I.P man.
I believe that any man on earth cannot suffers what he suffered if it wasn't for his faith in God, faith makes people strong, and Merrick stayed strong knowing some day that pain will go for the rest of his life, and indeed, now he is in a better place than this planet, Bytes could've not treated him bad, but life (father, houseworks etc,) did.
Loved this movie too much, it was sad touching.
I think if I had met him I would initially have been a bit freaked out by his appearance but after talking to him and seeing how intelligent, sweet and gentle he was I would have gotten over that very quickly and just seen him for the person he was not his medical condition or the way he looked.
Unlike neurofibromatosis, Proteus syndrome (named for the shape-shifting god Proteus) affects tissue other than nerves, and is a sporadic rather than familially transmitted disorder. In July 2003, Dr. Charis Eng announced that as a result of DNA tests on samples of Merrick's hair and bone, she had determined that Merrick certainly suffered Proteus syndrome, and may have had neurofibromatosis type I as well. As it stands, many people still mistakenly refer to his condition as elephantiasis.
my life is full because i know i'm loved
I know every one is focused on john hurt but anthony hopkins performance is amazing
well done, a very good effort. portrays the story in a nice, concise trailer that is selective and well constructed. kudos.
Dude even looking into his eyes I'm creeped out and that's where you really find a person I hear
you know what he is like the beast in beauty and the beast he is beautiful on the inside
