Such an RPG introduction of himself. "I am thief and archer"
Those times if you made pots that was kind of your only identity
Crom laughs at your Daedric princes lol.
And then he calls himself a king. Who else ever called themselves a thief first and then a king??
Stating your class(es) right after you introduce yourself is a matter of decorum.
@@sumanadasawijayapala5372 No, he says he's Hyrkanian, which was Howard's equivalent of the Central Asians, particularly the Mongols.
People slate Arnold for his acting, but here with an awesome director that got the best out of him, he absolutely nailed Conan. One of the very best films.
Can we also acknowledge the scene between conans mum and Thulsa Doom at the start? No one talks for ages yet there's so much emotion communicated non verbally.
Honestly this film is a forgotten masterpiece.
especially around 2:18 when he acknowledges Subotai's point and doesn't have a retort and looks pretty pissed about it

@@Emelefpi This. Schwarzenegger was always praised for work on Terminator and later films, but I was really bewildered, watching Conan after decades, how astonishly good he was here. His youngness clumsiness was combined with suprising good potrayal of emotions here and there to ideal (and unrepeatable) mix.
we have a name for those people who slate Arnold... theyre called idiots .
"He is the everlasting sky "
I always think of this line on cloudless days when the sky the is the perfect shade of pale blue.
''Crom laughs at your 4 winds'' is what I say when anyone passes gas around me.
There will never be another fucking film this good. Just the right mixture of old films and 80s testosterone.. A beautiful original score, max von sydow & James earl Jones; two absolute titans of film and acting, Arnold w the vibe and look... just a classic!
Dude there will never be another movie where a drunk guy punches a camel... this movie rocks.
Subotai was chained to a rock and forced to listen to Arnie’s sex yells before he was noticed.
Then again, he could have been lying in wait for someone to come by in order to steal their money.
That's what thieves do.
LOL
😂😂😂
One of the best scenes in the movie
Absolutely! Always a great go to.
I love how subutai was a reference to one of ghengis Khan's generals and the four winds are a reference to tengerism
Subotai appeared in Robert E. Howard's Cormac Fitzgeoffrey stories, about an Irish prince fighting across the Near East during the Crusades and who is very Conan-like. So does the Eye of Set and the notion that the protagonist carries a specific, rune-covered longsword as a hero weapon (the Conan of REH's stories just used whatever weapons were at hand). The film here is really an amalgam of REH's Conan, his King Kull (who was a slave and gladiator in his youth, which Conan was not) and Cormac. It's not clear in the Cormac stories whether the Subotai who appears there may be a youthful version of the historical general.
Yes he is Turkic, mustage style and turkich religion sky god gokturks
I always love the world of Conan. Mystical, brutal, adventurous!
The days of HIGH ADVENTURE!!
Conan ... Means "War Chief" as in
(Crazy Horse) it's a British word !
Pre-Christian.
Some Kings of Brittany were called Conan. It's more a job title then name.
The old Irish worshipped Crom. He's a real deity lol silly little English men
I love how conan gives Subotai a glare when he loses the "debate"...but lets it drop. Probably assuming that if those 4 winds ever dared land on Crom's mountain, he's show them what's what.
Conan wasn't going to kill his first real friend in the world, not after saving his life by unchaining him from that rock.
@@spatrick1277 I always thought Subotai was pretending to be starving/chained so that wolves would come and he would kill them for food.
@@Jen-Yueh_Hu He probably was, but to probably relieve people of their money after lulling them into a false sense of security and all that.
Hahaha.
@@Jen-Yueh_Hu I figured the witch lady had captured Subotai and was keeping him for some reason. Maybe planning to sacrifice him or somethin'.
Always loved the choice to have them running across these vast wilderness and wastes with hardly any supplies. No hiking, no horseback. Something about it all, in part perhaps for it's absurdity, really impressed upon you the barbarian nature of these characters.
the running scene portrays the book well.
I want some friend to run across wildreness with
One of the best eccumenical discussions EVER! They have different beliefs, yet they became as brothers, would that the world could be this way.
Square and compass.
It would never be cause Christian’s are ultra cringe and ruin everything.
Mutual Respect goes along way, both men have lived hard lives. and they were tired n hungry. I imagine last thing they wanted was to fight. It benefitted each of them to have the other around. safety in numbers. plus Subutai is the black lotus plug.
I like how this is set up, you have 2 pagan barbarians discussing their religions and arguing the differences between their beliefs, and neither one really takes offense at the comparison or denigrates them or says their god is false, just argues comically and hangs around for a while. That's a neat take on Paganism that isn't often shown in movies and things.
That's what happens when you have a conservative troll director in Millius. Outstanding results.
@@NaglfarCommando He called himself a Zen Anarchist. His conservative is so out there that some call it left winged.
Because most people take it upon themselves to in force their beliefs rather than accepting others through blind ignorance
Hell, man, that's suggested by the opening question. "What gods do you pray to?" not "Uh... you pray to Crom, right???"
Wish we could all discuss our beliefs with each other like that today, without inciting rage by merely expressing our beliefs and opinions.
One of the very best movies made. Not perfect, by any means, but a wonderful film to look at.
Great cinematography and an epic soundtrack.
@@douglaswilliams6834 100%!
John Milius was let off the leash for this one.
@@totalpartykill999 Probably because it was produced by Dino DeLaurentis. An Italian who was foreign and maybe naive to the ways of Hollywood?
One of the most nostalgic scenes of the movie.. makes you imagine the type of life during the Hyborian Age..
Bring back memories of Youth...30 years ago..
One of the best films ever made.
That moment you realize Basil Poledouris scored the music for most of your favorite movies as a kid.
I miss these fantasy movies
Last great one was LOTR in 2003 :(
Crom: “What is the Riddle of Steel?”
Conan: “You know, I’m not sure.”
Crom: “It’s cool. Got any dipping sauce for these popcorn nuggets? I’m a sucker for Finger Lickin’.”
Not a single movie of this generation comes close to the atmosphere of Conana the barbarian.
This films did magic.
Modern films, do nothing... They attempt to show bigger, larger... But it all feels deflated.
A few people talk and walk in Conan, and it feels like a magical realm... The soundtrack, filming and environment, they were all done in manners that held true artistic intent to them.
It actually impressed me to see the movies I grew up on as a child... Everything today, feels cheap in comparison.
LotR trilogy
@@twinkthatloveslotrtrilogy7676 Completely different atmosphere.
Lotr is a good trilogy, but with a very different style and tone of adventure, of what they are facing and why.
Conan did way more with less, and while both are about an epic adventure, Conan made the journey, characters and differences between people carry way more depth and weight.
It's odd to think how Conan had pseudo-barbarian philosophies being shared and discussed in the middle, various gods and that sense of openness.
LotR is fairly strict to it's setting... It's certainly is a big world with various races, but they are stuck... Frozen in a way.
Conan is way more dynamic in what it does with it's world.
2:18 that Arnold's face expression ))
CROM laughs at your internet.
The last age of adventure.
If Barbarians 9000 years ago can value diversity of thoughts, maybe we can too.
SJWs laugh at you "diversity of thought" ....
Laugh from Twitter
Ahh this is movie made by Californian hippies not a documentary about how diverse barbarians were. And they weren’t. Humans were and are tribal.
@@Catpanl Cry about it
@@TrilosonicResolutions What God do you pray to?
I think this is a movie, not an anthropology thesis
Subotai is the best sidekick in the history of cinema.
Real homies😎
Civilization, ancient and wicked
Let's waste no time
"Civilization, ancient and wicked." That's what I always say when I'm going in to New York City.
Oh how I wish I lived back in the Bronze Age, to make a merry band of rogues.
Yeah without infrastructure or stability. At least you won’t live long seeing as life expectancy was probably 20 max.
Red Sol maybe for soy boys like you who don’t know how to hunt or trap animals yes. Unlucky.
@@MrDeathMachine pfft have fun mate, shows how much of a primitive you are for wanting to smack stones together in the tool age. I like exactly where I am right now, a civilised society our ancestors bled to create. But you cling to a fantasy of a “merry” adventure when really your life would be miserable and short either dying from blunt force trauma or disease.
Red Sol shows how helpless you are without your technological safe space, soy boy.
@@MrDeathMachine the hypocrisy of your use of technology to tell me that probably escapes you. Soyboy? I see you also lack originality. You have no idea who I am or what I have done. I have simply pointed out a delusional fantasy you have about a “merry adventure” in a time of brutality. You obviously don’t like it so to preserve your ego you ignore my points and continue to deliver petty insults.
"Whuuu aaa uuu"....what a guyyy!!!😍😍😍
He got you there Conan 😂
Great film visually.
I like how they run from town to town not walk. I can’t think of any other movie with the characters doing that
I guess I’ll have to watch that
Aragorn,Legolas and Gimli did that too
This is proof that they are actually video game player characters. That's why they kill their enemies so easily, they are up against NPCs.
Great rpg.. when times were greater
4 winds guy sure jumped up after saying he didn't eat/drink for days shackled 🤔
That’s what happens when you ask a real man his NAME
conan doing some badass cardio
02:18 Conan looks upset 🤣
Thanks for the upload. This movie aged great. Better than the 2nd too
I love this scene.
Confused/hurt feelings face at 2:17 = when I try to sneak mashed cauliflower into my daughter's mac&cheese.
Friendship at its best ❤
Que hermosa película y que banda sonora!!!
"I am Sobutai! Thief, Archer, 3rd generation opium poppy farmer."
Just here to say how much I love this score.
A Barbarian and a Ranger meet. Typical D&D set up :)
Conan books as a young kid were the best. These scenes portray the books well.
Great soundtrack.
I am reminded of this scene when volcano-watchers are repeatedly thwarted by fog.
That meat looks so delicious!
Sure does.
Wonder where they got the meat from.
@@redpyramid9697 It's actually Kentucky Fried Chicken. I heard that on a commentary video.
I never appreciated this scene..until now! The soundtrack and the running, classic!!
I always thought this music was inspiring and uplifting!
Ty.
Crom laughed his ass of when you decked that camel, bronan.
My favorite movie 👊🏾🤘🏾👊🏾
What are these guys in a video game? They just ran miles and miles without tiring while encumbered with their camping equipment and weapons
*Laughs in Roman legionnaire*
Back then every soldier could carry their own necessities to start a fire and have a meal. If Romans can do it, so can Crom.
@@SwordTune no fast travel. The only way to play.
Crom laughs at our modern conveniences and our out-of-shape bodies.
@SniperSd Sid This would be WAY before the Roman Empire. It would be around the time of the Sumerians, if not just before.
@@gregfalco4528 the world of Conan is actually set around 40,000 years before our time basically it’s an alternative history so way before any civilizations we know of
I send my boys this clip to let them know I love them.
I think they get along because they both agree in polytheism. Once monotheism is brought into the mix then you HAVE to fight, there’s no other choice.
KFC in bronze age
Probably a grouse or heavier bird of sorts. It pays to have an archer around come dinner
Subotai not exactly eating like he hasn't eaten in days
He's not a bitch, he knows it'll get to his stomach in time. A good thief is a patient thief.
Legend said this debate is still continue until the age of internet.
say what you want about this mythical movie.. but it does capture the fighting spirit and freedom all freedom loving men!!
I'm looking for Conan the Barbarian, Part 2, please, the 1984 movie
Whooo ARE youuu! 😂😂😂
Super
Hahaha! Crom laughs at you all from his mountain!
Subotai is under appreciated. He’s one of the few who one-ups Conan and lives to tell the tale.
0:48 WHU AHGR YUU
Crom doesn’t care
He laughs from his mountain.
0.17: "You forgot to say please."
crom laughs at your four winds
This was an amazing time in films …never again will it return
1:12 is one of my favourite scenes.
They like that running....sure was a long way for a muscle guy
"Thank kynareth for you stranger, if you hadn't shown up" -Valdr
4K deluxe remaster please
Just saying Subutai probably heard Conan getting it on with the witch
You know, they call him a barbarian, but yet he can sit there with a comrade of a different faith and neither of them care. That's how men should be. Instead everyone is divided these days.
The real secret is this. Accepting that we all die alone.
I know this was filmed in Spain, but is this supposed to be set along the Silk Road? What city is this supposed to stand-in for?
They were aiming for some new hybrid Bronze Age culture made up of Viking/Mediterranean/Hunnic motifs.
The setting seems mostly central asian, where Europe meets Asia.
It's a mythical time AND place. It's not supposed to resemble any actual locations and the Hyborean age doesn't exist.
2:00 When someone farts in the room.
I love how subotai never asked about the crazy demon witch he was making love to even though he was right outside 😂😂😂
Chicken 🍗 looked good. Dinner for wolf 🐺
They look like they are eating rotisserie chicken from the supermarket.
Subutai that OG black lotus plug. He only gets Stygian. it's the best.
Subotai was a ride or die friend
There was more tolerance for diversity of beliefs back then thats for sure.
Okay, I love this movie, but Crom lives in the earth and Subotai's god is the everlasting sky, so why, when Conan prays to Crom before the last battle at the end of the movie, does he look up at the sky? And what does Valhalla have to do with Crom? Odin is the god who presides over Valhalla. Oh well, just had to get that off my mind, still a great movie.
Both valid observations. Crom has Thor and Odin-like qualities.
2:01
Think about how long he must have been here.
It was days after he ate that wolf.
Dinner for wolf, kfc boneless banquet see that fried skin
The next really religious person I speak with I'm going to claim Crom as my god.
The four winds are his farts.
The 4 winds are symbolized by a Swastica
also authority
The best answer: Who cares.
Your God laughs about my God.
Lets laugh together.
