Over time, your car’s headliner can be stained with cigarette smoke, food, dirty hands, oils, dust and debris. I will show you two techniques: one spot-cleaning technique to address stains in specific spots, and the more general approach to clean the entire headliner. This way, when you're detailing your car's interior, every spot will look clean, including the headliner.

Good advice. I was about to hose down the fabric with a firefighter hose, dry by rolling down all the windows, cranking up the heater, and slowly drive through Death Valley at the peak of Summer. 🥵 😷😎🏜️
Enjoyed tge video. I recently did my first headliner using your technique and recommendations. I used a bissell carpet pro without spraying water just for extractions. The headliner had severe grease spots and overall, the owner was satisfied with the results. Thanks and I like to see more on grease extractions

Thanks for a great video. My Mom’s Subaru is trashed. I just finished cleaning the door panels and seats with a few products and a toothbrush. The headliner has soda stains everywhere. I have two adhd nephews, that should say enough. Thanks again for sharing this.
My pleasure! How did you discover my channel Jay?
I did enjoy the tips but as a owner of a SUV with a cream colored headliner I really would have appreciated if the auto you used in this video didn’t have black fabric. With the black fabric I can’t really tell if it’s going to be as easy as you showed or if I’m going to have to repeat the cleaning process 3 time to get it clean.
Oldie but goodie. Thanks Pan
😄👍🏻
Guys, Pan is a very knowledgeable guy and very informative.
Thanks Quan!
Pan! You’re aging well good sir! Going back and watching the older vids…love the opening on this one as well. 😉
Hehe thanks! I like to think that detailing keeps me young!
awesome video. Mine has stains from when the previous owner left the moonroof open at night and It rained a bit before they noticed. They have bothered me since I bought the car. The only tool I need to buy Is the brush. Can't wait to finally get those nasty stains off.
Is it worth using something like a fabric protector to protect afterwards or not really something worth doing?
Great video Pan. This is an area of car detailing that most people overlook! With this method it is easy to clean those stubborn spots where you grab the A pillar with dirty hands. Great process, seems very simple. I really could have used this on my light beige headliner! Keep up the great videos.

I made the mistake once on my Ford Ranger’s roof liner to use quite a harsh brush, and did some relatively light scrubbing on a single spot - the fibres of the liner are quite sensitive to abrasion and I ended up permanently damaging the fibres on that spot. It was clean, but you could always see the result (almost like those pillows that you can “write” on with your finger that people have on their couches) . I learned to always use a very soft brush, and never scrub, only blot! Let the cleaning product do the heavy lifting 🙂

i need to get marker out of a car headliner for my younger cousin would it be fine to use an extractor or steam cleaner ? if so then which would be better
Some places won't clean headliners because they say the headliner can fall down afterwards because the glue loosen up
Hi.I have a vw vento -should i use the same procedure to clean the headliner?
My kids doodle on my roof lining with felt tip pen what can I use to remove the ink but not destory the glue under it ??
Black headliner...no need to clean..no staining.
I just want to say that the thought process behind I can't tell it's dirty so I don't need to clean it is disgusting
If it's a smoker's car then yes as it contribute to holding in the stale tobacco smell.
@@cotyhamilton8624 even tho I detail my car pretty often, they got a point tho. Like I’m tired of worrying about these dark prints that are near impossible to get off of stock beige no matter what product you use. For that reason alone (at least 95% of it) I’m heavily considering pulling the trigger on either black or dark grey
@@joesmith5247 hell yeah I feel that, I just like putting disinfectants on shit, or an scent booster and pretending ☠️😂
@@joesmith5247 nothing wrong with @SuperMatrix59 take, it is a headliner so it doesn't get 'too dirty' I just meant the general idea of 'sweep it under the rug cleaning'
I have a white cloth stain roof interior, that’s what you should show an actual light color stain one
Need to do this on a non-black headliner.
Hey pan
Im very thinking about how to clean headlinear and what products we use ?
Love Pan one of the best however......I can make a black headliner look clean by whistling at it.
It’s the information that counts here. It doesn’t matter what color headliner you have. Same techniques apply.
Maybe I will try this
Instead of using the brush and microfiber cloth could I use my carpet shampooer hand attachment along with the brush to lather.
Hey my guy
hope U read this message
using distilled water works better than regular water
since the headliner is so delicate cause of the hlue they use
Love your videos! What method do you recommend using to remove a faint cigarette odor from the headliner in my BMW X5? Thanks.
Thanks Pan, My wife put some eyeliner on the headliner and I was wondering what to use for that. By any chance, do you have any video cleaning Alcantara Steering wheels?
Not yet, but I will have a full alcantara cleaning and protection tutorial coming in the next few months hopefully.
U think those pro heat vacuum cleaner will work? I am thinking.
Hey pan! i have a question how would you go about removing water stains from headliner? hope you reply :)
Do u know how? I was removing the stains which was successful but now I have liquid/water stains in my tan colored headliner
Awesome advice, not to spray the cleaner directly on the headliners, I was concerned for such.

What if I used water when I did it thinking it was gonna clean it bet will it create a water stain
Would this work to clean out soot on the headliner of a car? And could you also use this for cleaning the chairs fabric as well or should you use a different method for that?
Courtney Dripps yeah you could use this method on anything it’s just a matter of repeating the process until the stain lifts . There are a lot of remedies you can use if you don’t have upholstery cleaner 🤔 hope this helps
Hi Pan, how do you fix a damaged headliner that's gone all fluffy..
thank you

I had some fairly big ones and it took a lot of blending and it’s not perfect but definitely a huge improvement with the cheapest carpet cleaner I found at Walmart.

Hey Pan! Would this work on the soft fuzzy headliner? Mine is like a soft fuzzy cotton or something
Great video showing how to clean the headliner as it is such a delicate place to clean. I was wondering if it is possible to clean the headliner using the Tornador or would that not be a good option because too much liquid would be introduced to the headliner and possibly cause wicking?
By Tornador, I'm assuming you mean the Tornador Black or Tornador Max? The ones with the container in which you can add a mild cleaning solution? (I have the Tornador Max. Link: amzn.to/3IYyQG6)
You should test on an inconspicuous are first, to see, but you wouldn't be spraying too much liquid, as Tornadors don't oversaturate so it should be fine.
I would still lightly mist the APC, spot cleaner or fabric cleaner and agitate with a soft brush first. Then, in the Tornador's container, use distilled water only. And quickly go over the area that you just cleaned. Take a clean and DRY microfiber towel and immediately mop up. No wicking this way.
I hope this helps.
@@PanTheOrganizer Thank you. That was greatly appreciated. I will defnitely try that.

It doesn't matter how clean or how dirty the headliner is. Techniques, tools and products don't change. You just need more elbow grease and time with a dirtier headliner.

Would you use that carpet brush if the headlines is madenof "valur"? Also andy issue with water spots once the chemical dries? Lastly do you recommend a steam cleaner on the liner?
Hi. If your headliner is made out of microsuede (alcantara, or "velours like" material) then you have to be very gentle with it. I wouldn't use a brush, but rather just lightly agitate with a soft microfiber cloth.
You must NEVER steam clean a headliner directly, as this could remove the glue that keeps most headliners to the roof of your car!!
Pan TheOrganizer Thanks fpr the answer; thats what I thought about the steamer. Iv seen youtube videos with people using it on the headliner. Dont know how they do it, but I worry that doing so would eventually mess it up.
crissement bon video! I just changed a sunroof on an e46 and dirtied the headliner in a few areas upon removal and reinstall. I had used a soft bristle toothbrush and some dish soap and then wiped it off but i think i was better off using a solution such as yours or 24karat all purpose cleaner
Thanks Anthony!

Hello again Pan. Which is better? P&S XPRESS INTERIOR CLEANER or CHEMICAL GUYS FABRIC CLEAN? My sister has a stain on her BMW headliner.
Two completely different products. Xpress is meant for hard surfaces, not fabric. CG Fabric Clean is a carpet & upholstery cleaner.

Guy your demo was on a jet black surface, maybe try a lighter color for demonstration purposes?
Hi Pan - for removing a single stain from fabric car seats, would you use the same method outlined in this video ? I do have a hot-water extractor, but I think it might be overkill.
Yes same method.
Also, I've just found out this video about upholstery cleaning - thumbs up !
Use a drill bit with a brush attached. Better clean, less effort.
People with little detailing experience need to be very careful in doing that, as the headliners are typically very delicate and fragile materials.

Oh! I didn't think about damaging the glue on the liner.
Hi is it okay to spray a foam cleaner on the headlining then brush in as being foam it isn't soaking the headlining more sitting in the top.
As long as you are not wetting the headliner too much.

But it's okay with a black headliner but I have a a light grey and last time I used Hertel but I don't know if stain is still there or because theres always a bit of wet inside the spot I I did but now there's a circle e a different color then the original and I'm so annoyed and OCD about it..with those products your sure it won't discolor?
Or damage the tissue? It's pretty rough the brush no?
