    I don't think my ancestors were using horses.... We got old breed horses in Iceland, but those horses are small ! Pony-like with a lot of fur if compared to a normal horse. I'm Icelandic, but my grandmother was from Poland and I know Poles were great riders, I've seen "Winged Hussars" in Polish museum some time ago, and I've heard about Polish mounted knights as a true power in a medieval times. (Grunwald 1410 good work Poles!!) I'm glad I've got Polish blood in my veins ! But I don't think my ancestors 'Vikings' were using horses that much in the battles, especially on the continent, It's hard to put the horses on the boat, with food for them, and for sure horned helmet is a mistake. I've seen many 'viking times' helmets in Norway, Sweden, Denmark and here, but none has horns. BTW it may be interesting for some of you.: We, I mean my family has a sword, well not quite a sword, but what was left from the sword. It's passed down from father to son in our family. We do believe (however we haven't any historical evidences) that sword belonged to one of the first settlers here from Norway, Ancestor of our family. WEll it's my older brother who get the sword when time come, not me.

    Vikings were: 1. not horned, 2. sea pirates, without their own country (they did not form a country before Russian dynasty of Kiy or Kiev (pre-Riurikid dynasty), 3. mercenaries & Jarl tribes. Every Viking hero was a god to his village. 4. Variags were not Vikings (the history was manipulated in Romanov/Roman Russia; by a German lawyer called "Bauer", means Farmer, who did not know 1 single Russian word; and wrote the "History of Russia". He concluded with these statement in his book; "I SUSPECT that Vikings created this country". This SUSPICION became the substitute for a later ALTERNATIVE "history", which became ORTHODOX "history" in Wermacht Germany. All old books were burned and rewritten. The Russian Variags weren't Vikings, but Slavic elite military units, trained since their childhood. They are described also as a SLAVIC (and not as a Swedish) nation called VAGRIANS (source: ADAM VON BREMEN) from STARGARD (means "OLD CITY"), in current Poland. GARD was old Slavic(and NOT Swedish) name for Grad which means "City". Stargard was a capital city of Vagrians / Variags and after Alliance with Slavic Russians (not "Viking" Russians) they moved their capital city to a city called NOVGOROD which means "NEW CITY".... Everything else are a fairy tales for idiots and nationalists; including "Olaf" (Oleg; Olyeg; "Oiled one"), "Askold"; which is a distortion of Slavic Skit (Skot) SKOLOT or SOKOL which means "FALCON", etc, etc

      Olhor10 Its not so surprising. Northern Vandals and Ostrogoths had strong connections with bronze age cultures in central Europe. In Sweden till today is many local toponyms similar to those in Slovakia, Czech rep and southern Poland (especially its valid for Vandals and for Slovakia and region of Sliezsko in Poland/Czech border area).

    • @RackerPaS
      @RackerPaS Před 8 lety +1

      Central Europe, at least temporarily.

    • @leakaderova8557
      @leakaderova8557 Před 8 lety +3

      RackerPaS Its not so clear. For example few known Vandal kings with clear slavic names were Miedislaus (king of Hasdingi Vandals between 310 - 388), or Radagaisis. Term Vandals in medieval age coincide with term Marcomans, in region of central Europe. You can see it for example on "Tabula Peutingeriana" were territory on left Danube bank is marked as MARCOMANNI and in the interstices between letters is inscription VANDULI. Markomani were, at least on territory of today Slovakia, Austria, Slovenia and Czech republic more slavic than germanic (and even "germanicity" of Germans is quite interesting).
      There are also medieval authors which called Vandals as slavic people, for example Albert Krantz in his Saxonia wrote "Marcomans were Vandals of slavic bred who attacked Boii and furious nation expelled from their everlasting territories and seize their land... ". Also there is preserved vandal dictionary with 181 words and many of them are till today understandable with absolute no problem for any slavic nation, but not so easy for german or anglo-saxon languages. I can show some of them for example word "pot" - Vandal: "pechar" Slovak "pohár" Czech "pohár" Polish "puchar". Word "thunder" is Vandal "grom" Slovak "hrom" Polish "grom". Word "man" is Vandal "klap" Slovak "chlap" Czech "chlap" Polish "chlop". Word "flame" is Vandal "plamen" Slovak "plameň" Czech "plamen" Polish "plomien" and many many else. Try to compare it with German or Swedish terms for that things.
      There are many other traces (heraldry, culture, toponyms, language (I can write here oficial public funeral notice about death of swedish king Karl XI. for public, from 1697 and you can see in which language swedish royal court communicate with his vandal subjects)) which pointing on that Vandals, were much more in common with those what we currently calling Slavic nations than with those who we currently calling Germanic nations.

For comparison, when chronicler Gallus wrote in 1120`s,he frequently used term "Polonia" as applied to a state between Odra and Bug.

    The overall plot of the Movie leaned more into the fairy tale direction it didnt retold an actual event - but nontheless they put quite more effort into the costumes than western "historical" pieces. :v

We have a rich history. There was a great flourishing, and the decline was in the 20th century. I hope it taught us a lot.

    • @VendPrekmurec
      @VendPrekmurec Před 9 lety +2

      Dytko88 Christianity did not "create" science and technology; Christianity created bonefires, mass genocide, destruction of science and technology and pushed humans back into the stone ages; with beautification; "Dark Middle ages"... People were illiteral, all ancient antique libraries were burnt and destroyed, including all slavic sources, temples. On locations of previous slavic temples (hramovi/hrami) were built Christian churches like a mockery against everything original; so Christianity is more "pagan" (the word means primitive, rural in latin) than "pagan" faiths themselves... In reality Christianity stole traditions, mythologies and deleted our history butchered our cultures to unrecognisability.
      The closest to the allowed approach into phylosophical way during dark middle eges was Sholastics... but even this philosophical sleeve had its own borders... So, technology, science evolved AFTER Renaissance, Humanism, when human become "Center of everything"; This was the birth of physics; Newton, Galileo Galilei, Kepler, Nikolai Kopernik, etc. So these guys were rather beyond any religious nonsense. Perhaps only Newton was the only one who was closest to "god", but no other scientists was in Christianity or religion at that time,... Our nation (Slovenes) lost independence after we accepted Christianity; we become part of Frankish "roman" empire and later Bavarian state and later Austrian and later Austrian Hungarian state. The last emperor who tried to cut ties with Bavarian dominance were princes and counts of Celje... So, we do not glorify Christianity at at all here...

  • @chesedlubartower7831
    @chesedlubartower7831 Před 9 lety +4

    There's no such thing as "Slavs" - it's a myth. Let me explain.
    Poles, Czechs, Slovaks etc are a mix of Celto-Germanic, Nordic, Turkic, Finno-Ugric and Iranian/Semitic peoples. Russians and Ukrainians are also a mix of these groups, except they have more Turkic admixture and much less Celto-Germanic.
    Serbians, Croats, Montenegro etc is a mixture of proto-Slavic speakers with Volga Bulgars, native illyrians in the Balkans, Ottoman peoples and also Greeks.
    On the other hand, Vikings were much more homogeneous. Of course Nordic people are mixed, but they are still "Nordic", whereas "Slavic" just doesn't exist anymore (if it ever existed in the first place)

    • @subsrebel4
      @subsrebel4 Před 9 lety +1

      I understand some Slavs have Iranian admixture but Semitic? Semitic=Jews or Arabs. I seriously doubt ''Slavs'' have any Jewish or Arab genes in them.

    • @chesedlubartower7831
      @chesedlubartower7831 Před 9 lety +1

      subsrebel4 Well, as strange as it may sound to you that's true. Did you know that Poles used to buy Arabian slaves before they were Christians? Hundreds of Arabian women mixed with Polish men. Then also Poland had THE BIGGEST Jewish population in the world - before 1939 3.5million Jews (10% of the Polish population) lived in Poland and lots of them mixed throughout the 1000 years in Poland.
      Nowadays lots of Poles have a degree of Semitic autosomal DNA in them - not everyone but a lot of them.
      Obviously, Poles also have Nordic, Celto-Germanic, Finno-Ugric, Turkic, Iranian ancestry as well, but Semitic is also very common.

    It's from a 2003 film by Jerzy Hoffman entitled "Stara baśń: kiedy słońce było bogiem" ("An Ancient Tale: When the Sun Was a God"), based on a 1876 historical novel "Stara baśń. Powieść z dziejów Polski" ("An Ancient Tale. Novel in Polish history") by Józef Ignacy Kraszewski.
    There's not a single word of the Vikings, or anything "vikingy" for that matter, in Kraszewski's novel, originally those warriors were Germans (Saxons, to be precise) helped by "Pomorzanie" against "Polanie".
