- The dynamics in Indo-Pacific are shifting. China’s economy has lost momentum and is declining. India, having a young population, a rich history and a fast-growing economy, is attracting global attention. Now the world’s most populous country, India is expected to surpass Japan to become the third largest economy by 2027. But India also faces numerous challenges. In an era of global economic shifts, the comparison between India and China presents a study of contrasts and similarities.
1:15 40 years of similar economy models

Superb analysis but demonetisation has paved the way for digital transaction i don’t carry much as earlier I use to and now every person has bank account this is a revolution you overlooked
But digital transactions are based on certain currencies. I don't think crypto will ever replace currencies of countries. What a sham that would be!! Crypto is cyber crime on steroids.

Hi Lei.. Thank you for this comparison between India and China.. I would be very interested in the competitive military comparison, the military conflicts in the past/present, and the potential military conflicts in the future.. 👍🙏
Yes, that will be great
It seems to me a military conflict is possible quite soon, 3-5 years. I'd also be interested in such an analysis.
It's simple: economy: china more than five times bigger. Firepower about the same. India imports most arms, chinaproduces. China has an army, Indian army is a big food for sleeping in filthy sleeping bags program (except some elite troops, who are very fine)

I am from India. Overall I think your assessment on India, its current strengths and it's issues , seems reasonably valid. I think India is like 10/15 years behind China in infrastructure and manufacturing technology. Corruption may continue to be there, and not an easy nut to crack. I think India will see a slow steady growth in the next few years, unlike meteoric growth of China of past few years. Got to learn from China, in some areas. India would continue to be religious, and will not be as disciplined as western or eastern people 😊.
Your country is undeniably worthy of your place in the world! You've paid heavy price and have overcome severe adversities. I am glad for all peoples of India and greatly admire your country 🙂❤
15 years behind ? You need to go visit China hv a first hand experience ...I don't think India can be anything like China today in 15 years...😅
@ganboonmeng5370 fair point, may be in some sense youcorrect.. the thing is, India don't want to be like someone else, will never think or plan to build any awesome structures that China built, that's usually not the mindset .. Indians may spend money to build temples/mosques/churches, but I am not sure we would think of building crazy super buildings like that of China, atleast in my view. I also don't think Indian people will be as disciplined as in China, but mind you, Indian people are as good as anywhere else in the world. Like a well groomed garden is good, also a forest landscape which is never groomed is also good.

Very informative. Thank you Lei. Good work.
Glad it was helpful!
Hey Lei, I know that whatever info you got on India from your research, you are correlating. One thing to remember is that India doesn't only think in terms of GDP as growth. Another idea some so-called economists keep repeating is the manufacturing model like China (that worked in the 1970s, 80s, and 90s, until COVID hit), but now that is a dead model. India mostly follows the "Atma Nirbhar Bharat" model (self-reliant), where goods are manufactured and consumed by India/Indians, and excess produce will be exported. It's not going to be like China, just an export-led economy exploiting cheap human resources to produce products for America and Europe (what a tragedy! China worked hard for 40 years to send products to the USA and earned 3 trillion reserves. The USA just printed 5 trillion from thin air during COVID; it just shows how foolish it is to rely on only export-led growth). Hence, India doesn't need an equal number of ports, road lengths, or factories because we are consuming ourselves, not serving Americans. Got the point.
You have a few good points. Though the unfavorable socio-economic situations China is facing are self-inflicted and not because of manufacturing or export. Manufacturing and export provided China with the economic impetus and resources to push ahead in the direction it chooses or planned. Manufacturing also brought much technical know-hows and technology transfers as well as huge investment capitals to China. China have squandered the opportunities, resources and time. More on this. S. Korea, Taiwan and Singapore were maufacturing export dependent countries that have moved up the socio-economic ladder through good domestic and international policies. Though not expecting China can be like them, it could at least be significantly much better than it is facing now. So many bad socio-economic policies by the CCP such as the long runnning one-child policy, unsustainable/redundant infrastructure and RE investment model, enormous wastes on many mega prestige projects, BRI, long-standing banking mismanagement, enormous military spending (about equal to the US, see US Senator revealed), over-reliant on foreign companies for productions for the past 40 yrs, lack of renowned and trusted brands, choosing and staying with the easy cheap/low-end model instead of higher-end products model, huge wealth disparity gap, rampant corruptions and unrestrained greed, bad Covid outbreak management and policies, adverse/alienating international policies, worsening business environment, on and on. They have squandered their opportunities and self-inflicted with major woes.
On behalf of the Chinese people, I sincerely wish that the people of India shall not follow the painful path on which we have chosen to walk. Jai azadi!
I normally watch CZcams with my TV your sound is omitted, but with my phone it’s fine. Commercial comes on sound works. Things that make you go hmmm?

In India you can have a very nice meal for about Rs 100 which is about $1.20. Not sure about China but the same meal in US is closer to $10. So India’s real GDP per capita is somewhat higher than $2.5k
the meal in India comes with free diarrhea
Because much of India has a good climate for agriculture, so it can harvest more often and more cheaply than the US.
You make me laugh, according to you it is better for India to continue with the status quo than to increase the income of Indians
China and India collectively make up approximately 35.31% of the global population and 60% of the population in Asia. If these two nations successfully resolve their border issues, they could become significant partners in various aspects.....
Some nations may be opposed to this development, possibly out of concern that their influence in the region could diminish if China and India successfully address their border issues and establish a closer partnership.....

why?
Why don't you do global marketing for Lei ?
You have left out an important point. India has a very big social problem, that is its Hindu Caste system. It stratified Indians into caste by birth. If one is born a Dalit he or she cannot get an education or job and is supposed to remain a low level labourer. Another point is that India was not a country before British colonialism but is a subcontinent of many countries with different languages and cultures. The British lumped them up to form an administrative area for eady administration. When the British granted India independence it simply lumped them up into a single country ruled by Hindu Brahmins ruling class. As such Parkistan and Bangladesh broke off. Now Khalistan and Kashmir are fighting for independence. It does not even have a functional national language although Hindi is selected. The reason is there are more than 100 languages (not dialects) with different scripts. For example the Tamils in Tamil Naidu speak Tamil and the writing is totally different from Hindi or Punjabi.

The only reason why the world's investors built via investment was that China was willing to provide cheap coal fired electricity. This was partly due to the coal mines, but it was mostly because of the CCP's ability to get land cleared via their unique idea of eminent domain!
A key reason for China's economic ascendance has been utilizing the enormous excess rural population.

Excellent analysis of both nations
What people don't realize is that the per capita GDP of India is indeed $2600, but that is in nominal terms after conversion to USD. The USD has a huge premium to INR, making the PPP size of Indian economy much bigger.
$1 = INR 83, but you can get more than three times the amount of buying power in India for most items, from INR 83, than what you can get in the US for $1. When the repricing happens and it will happen over the next 15 years, the Indian GDP will become 3x larger in addition to whatever it grows by. Today it is an ~ $4T economy, which in reality is like being ~ $12T with repricing and it is growing at the rate of 7%.
I am from India. your analysis is correct. But Indian mind set should change. It go closer to US rather Russia. India next 10 Years very much crucial. This is deciding factor.

As a developing economy, most of India's problems could be solved just by building more infrastructure.
I'm getting one second of sound and the rest of the video is silent. The adverts come in loud and clear.
Well, I would say that you are correct about the mega container ports. One is being built right now.
But then most of the other ones like infrastructure points like road and railways are a bit outdated. Massive new road infra and existing ones that were pending and shoved under red tape have been done or nearing completion and by 2025 will be one of the biggest and best in the world.
The railways are moving in the same direction with dedicated routes for double-decked fully electrified freight lines which is something that doesn't exist in almost any other country (if I'm not mistaken).
While poverty is an issue, the problem with India unlike China which suppresses numbers, India is bad at collecting statistics and mechanisms to collect data are also not efficient but are being worked on.
The banking reforms that happened since 2017 are actually a good thing. Being slow itself in its nature is good because there is a huge focus on preventing bad loans which is what we see in China and USA but the USA can or at least could get away by printing money and exporting inflation across the globe, India can't do that.
The most important factor is that India has a strong and highly principled leader, unlike China which has the total opposite.
Love your talks.

On the top ten container ports, I noticed that the US is not on the list. And yet, the US is a major trading country, at least in dollar value. Actually, in terms of percentage or GDP, it is not so much. So, does that mean the US is limited in its maritime trade capabilities?
The US has large land borders with its major economic partners. Imports from Mexico and Canada are 55% higher than from China and dozens of billions in U.S. foreign revenue is for digital services, not goods.
@@Dqtube Good points.
Current indian PM may do some major reforms in his 3rd term as he did when he was chief minister of 'Gujarat' state of India.
I’m betting on India to become the world’s largest economy by midway through this century. Much needs to be done to ensure infrastructure meets requirements, but the political and importantly the social will is there. India is experiencing an economic surge and a surge in national pride, which is a reflection of the positive changes made in the past decade.

@Lei - I refer to your talks on China primarily because you often differentiate between Chinese communist party and Civilizational China/the chinese people.
Your analysis of India in this video relies heavily on inaccurate reports made by biased western media portals. You are extrapolating selective data of the corrupt government (2004-2014) on the fantastic governance (from 2014 onwards) and drawing incorrect conclusions.
If you actually want to do videos on India and China comparisons, you should consider discussing with some "Resident non-communist Indian". I would highly recommend people like Dr. Ankit Shah or Maj Gen Rajiv Narayanan or Aadi Achint (DefTalks YT)
Many of the comments in this post claiming to be Indians are merely convent educated urban elites who suffer from a self flagellating mindset and/or covert communist Indians ( hard-core supporters of CCP propoganda).
The 20th century was all about world war, kinetic and millitary wars, cold war etc. But 21st century is all about civilisational war. Atleast in Asia, all countries will try and find their historical and civilizational roots. And most western research portals or Asia experts are totally clueless about what's happeneing.
We need highly motivated individuals who are willing to do more than just complain online. It's why I started my own local chapter of (ADV) "Allied Democracy Vanguard".
Every freedom loving country needs people willing to form Grassroots Organizations/Movements.
1) To ensure that our politicians aren't putting the interests of the CCP above our own countries.
2) To support human rights, and preserve freedom & democracy around the world; from the CCP-PLA's undue influences and harm.
3) To elect politicians who will be on the right side of history.
4) To develop tough on China legislation.
5) To expose and weed out CCP corruption abroad.
6) To foster the fraternity of NATO friendly Nations.
7) To stop China stealing land & resources. And take them back.
8) Require the CCP to pay reparations for the pandemic
9) ....anything else necessary

If Indian women's workforce participation rate doesn't increase it will be a very long time before India surpasses China in GDP.
