l really appreciate how they didnt just delete inventory and called it a day,, they also added a lot of related-but-not-immediately-obvious features like stacking and hovering etcc. Really outstanding
stacking and hovering were already in the games code, just not featured. things that are new include the holding a block in 2 hands model and throwing blocks ai believe

@@syrelian There's a lot of mods that let you throw items from your inventory and have them land like that so they probably like hired some modders and got their existing code

Some of the features highkey are kinda awesome like, grabbing and stacking mobs on your head, throwing blocks at stuff and it doing damage, using chicken to glide and fly, these are all things that could make for a fun little mod to actual, regular, inventory-having Minecraft.

Wow, Minecraft keeps managing to 1-up itself for April Fools! From locked chests and a fake microtransaction screen, to infinite "dimensions", to now completely revitalizing the gameplay! Absolutely insane.
And honestly if it weren't for the one use tools and the single space inventory, this would be a really fun version to play!

I'd agree if I didn't know all too well making sure your ideas are good and fixing them so they're not horribly broken takes 10 times as long as implanting something haphazardly.
I’d imagine it works like what Wizards of the Coast does with Magic: The Gathering, where they explore any and all ideas people come up with, keep the ones that work, and put the rest into joke products.

Then you should hear about Landfall. Every April Fools they either update one of their games with wacky stuff or make a completely new game. Some of those games are still going strong today. For example: TABG

I'm not gonna lie, they put in a *lot* of detail in this update. You could still craft, smelt, etc - but just one block at a time. Who woulda thought?

I just tried this for a bit myself, and about 10 minutes in I tamed a horse, and was able to open it's inventory. It was kinda strange after all the messing around throwing things the whole time. also I found out that sheep get sheared when you throw them and if you throw wool at them they regain it.

I gave this update a try after seeing how you completed it and managed to do it in about 8 hours, and it was the most fun I've had playing Minecraft in YEARS. Keep on doing what you do, you glorious maniac.
My first thought upon seeing this was that they turned you into an enderman, stealing one individual block at a time... xD
I love the fact one of the skeletons became a spotter for the rest, that's such a cute detail they didn't have to add.

This is one of the most involved and creative April Fools jokes I've ever seen. They had to code all of these gameplay changes. They basically rebuilt Minecraft to an extent, so they could make a funny...
...and some of the changes are actually awesome.

i remember someone saying that the april fools updates are mojang with no restrictions from microsoft. as much as i love to join in on the "mojang is lazy" meme, the real enemy seems to be microsoft. they are absolutely capable of making something genuinely fun, but are forced to do things that will please investors.
this video really made me kinda sympathise with mojang a lot more. they are not evil or lazy, but they are under tyrannical rule from microsoft.

Ah yes, the Turret% and Pacifist% categories
The pacifist run would be easy because you just have to ride the Ender Dragon and leave, but a run where kill the dragon would be insane. You do damage based on block hardness in this snapshot, so if you can get bedrock from an enderman, then you can 1 shot kill the dragon.
Edit: Water also has infinite hardness so you can 1 shot kill the dragon with a water bucket too.

Mojang is notorious for making really fun updates. The infinity update is by far the best "prank" they did.

Fun fact, the portals, if placed in the overworld, will point towards the stronghold, and the portal will only have the frames with eyes so you can replace them with the once from the fortress and it will always point the right way

Honestly being able to hold and throw mobs and blocks sounds like it could be really fun if it was implemented in the standard game. Maybe with a special pair of gauntlets.
Weightless Gauntlet, made with Deepslate, Shulker Shells, and Iron Ingots. Can also be found in the Deep Dark and End Cities. It lets you carry a block or mob (one at a time) and loses durability when a block or mob is placed/thrown. If it's used on the Ender Dragon, it allows the player to ride it (they can control its movement and fireballs with a Saddle).

There used to be a mod that implemented Half-Life's Gravity Gun that basically did this. Mobs still attacked you while you held them, but you could grab and yeet mobs and blocks (and importantly move blocks that needed silk touch without breaking them). When people talk about their favorite mods from back in the day they usually think Aether or something along those lines, but by far my favorite mod was Gravity Gun, and watching this video brought back memories. Part of me wants to learn Minecraft modding just to have a version of the GG mod that I can play with in current versions.

You're supposed to use the end portal frame in the overworld where they will point to where the stronghold is, but this works too I guess.
Also, here's some cool info about this version: Holding a bee let's you levitate, you can trade with villagers by giving them an emerald item, you can put a barrel on your head and become a block by crouching, you can smelt/cook things by putting them on fire, glass has a chance to break when thrown, and gravel landing causes fire.

There also is crafting tables in the tents outside of outposts. Also if yoid ride the dragon into the void it brings you to the over world
Damn, the chicken+skeleton dragon fight reminds me of this one GTNH playthrough where I could infinitely jump in the air, and I had a glider and crossbow, but I didn't have creative flight, so it turned into the massive dogfight of me and the dragon circling each other. Took me like an hour of "if I mess up once, I die" but I managed to beat it

This doesn’t seem like a dumb idea, it should be a toggle-able feature, maybe add so that you can have one tool at you side but nothing else, and crafting recipes available through books that can be found in the bookcases when you brake them, that’ll make the bookcases have a use

2 years later... i've given myself the courage to try to beat it, it is currently 2am, i've been playing for 9 hours straight and just got the "ride the end" achievment, i'd reccomend anyone to try it, even if it took me forever it was very satysfying
With that hold-stacking mechanic, you could “probably” recreate the Town Musicians of Bremen. You would need to stack from bottom to top- a donkey, a dog, a cat, and a chicken

One thing I appreciate is that the April fools update is kind of fun in its own right. Although its a joke things like throwing crafting tables to craft are both funny and kind of interesting. I wouldn't recommend trying to beat the game but I love that there is enough substance to at least spend some time fucking around with it

I think it's obvious that the developers want you to be able to win. Otherwise they wouldn't have included these fricking awesome features like throwing a crafting table to craft or pick up mobs to get an ability. The chicken's the best. So cool. xD
I think the portal frame in the nether fortresses is the most obvious part. No need to do that, you could just force the player to manually find the portal randomly and then collect each eye, but they gave them for free

I loved the infinity snapshot, hell, wrote a warp searching tool to find dimensions with arbitrary blocks, natural and custom biomes, etc. Finding the location of the bookshelf with a specific dimension in the infinite library, and so on. Also ran a server for friends on that snapshot for several months.
Sadly there was that one annoying crash due to a certain decorator having bad bounds. Made random exploration really annoying.

This mod is a testament to Mojangs familiarity with their property. This was literally a 1 off little prank they did for april fools, yet the mod contains in incredible amount of thoughtful and creative detail. The devs were obviously able to pull this off in a very short amount of time, which just goes to show how familiar they are with the code that they've been consistently optimizing for over 12 years, they know it like the back of their hand.
Microsoft made a smart decision of allowing Mojang to essentially maintain full creative control of the game and a good amount of its marketing. Bill Gates knew this decision would help maintain their original player base and therefore make him more money. Win win

I've always wanted to see a mod similar to this, where it limits your inventory by a considerable degree and makes you have to rely on other things, such as animals, backpacks, and other stuff to reliably move blocks and items. This snapshot looks like a lot of fun.

you are supposed to pick up the end portals and take them to the overworld where they point in the direction of the stronghold so you can build the portal there but ig that also works
