  • How to wash clothes in a salad spinner | Off grid laundry : I have a request to try doing laundry off-grid by using a salad spinner to wash clothes. I put this method to the test by adding dirt to a white t-shirt before washing it in the salad spinner. To measure how much water would spin out, I weighed the t-shirt before and after the wash with a luggage scale. Although a salad spinner may not be suitable for washing large loads of laundry, the results of this surprised me. I can't wait to share them with you. Watch the video to find out more! Were you surprised at how washing clothing worked in a salad spinner? Drop me a comment to let me know.

Im looking at the salad spin method for small articles (mostly) since having to use laundromat dryers in recent times. I’d be inclined to handwash as one would in the sink - alot of hand agitation then rinse. I think the salad spinner is helpful to extract as much water as possible for faster line drying. I wouldnt expect the salad spinner to actually wash the clothes. You need to get your hands in there and soak some to really get them clean. Trying to sort out which spin mechanism is strongest/best for this purpose. I’m rethinking the plunger mechanism based on your experience. But, the table you used was very wobbly. Great vid, ty!

Better by hand. Cleaner, and faster.

I think hand washing would take less time and come out easier.

If I had such a nice white shirt more than likely I'd spill salad dressing on it, the circle of garment/food/van/sustainable life eh?

Love this! Wanted to let you know, apparently in Corpus Christi, TX there is a shortage of propane. I learned from an RVer. Not sure if that would travel your way. Wanted to let you know before you travel. ❤✋

It worked great and it worked on tide pods

Seems like it would be easier just to wash it out in the sink or just by hand in a bowl.

I agree. Washing the t-shirt didn't seem worth the effort.

I didn't expect the results. It might be helpful if you're without power and need to wash a few things.
