Pastry's design looks kinda cute but I don't get why they had to lighten her dough color? What does China have against skulls? And why did they recolor the Red Velvet Dragon? Genuinely curious.
Censoring skulls in video games is actually pretty common for china. I'm not completely sure why either but I read a few times that depicting skulls or skeletons could be seen as culturally insensitive. Possibly because china is very big on honoring their ancestors.
This kind of censorship es applied to games for under 12, games for +12 usually don't requiere this, such as Genshin having mention of Alcohol, skeletons, death and religion inspired desings

@@Errorlicious Yeah, there are deaths, alcohol, and religion inspired things in Cookie Run too. Some deaths include: Sherbet dying from a disease, Onion from a chandelier crashing down on her, the Tea Leaf Knights getting killed by a dragon (not sure if they really died like that, that's just how I remember) etc. There's also like, a lot, of mentions of alcohol, though they call it Berry Juice and Grape Juice, that's their equivalent of alcohol since they clearly get drunk upon drink it. And last one is the religion stuff, there are religion stuff like some Cookies praising the Witches, (they have a whole ass church), and the Creme Republic's religion where they seem to be praising the "Divines."
honestly the one thing I do like about Pastry Cookie's redesign for this version, is her Veil, it looks really pretty, the hair style also looks cute.
Lilac cookie was finally asked to wear a shirt but got his pants stained in white due to a laundry with mixed clothes situation in the process

For anyone wondering why hey changed the dragon's design, it's probably because the white parts look like a skull and a skeleton, which is a big no no in china. I'm just making an hypothesis but that happened in other games i play so I think it's pretty reasonable to say that

Who knows, Maybe the new Pastry Cookie Design could come as a special costume.

If Iâm not wrong, Genshin Impact is a Chinese game itself. I donât know much about it yet but from what I can assume based on these changes to CRK, it doesnât have skulls, or alcoholic drinks, or religious references, or revealing outfitsâŠ.
If Genshin happens to have any of these, guess China just has double standards.
Genshin has plenty of alcoholism and religious references, quite a few revealing outfits too but 4 of them did get censored for the Chinese server
But keep in mind CRK was made with a younger audience in mind, it's 4+ while Genshin is 9+ I believe

The things allowed in the age ranges are different according to whats suitable for them. So different ranges like crk and genshin means difference in content allowed

For peoples that are complaining about the skulls/ghosts censorship, in chinese culture death is a very delicated thing, the avoid basically everything that It is related to this subject, so keep this in the game no only would be something disturbing to their culture but it would be disrespectful to their culture

The Lilac redesign looks cursed, I hate it. I think the Blackberry one is really cute but I don't know if I like it more than the original. I wish they kept Pastry's lore and design religious.

Exclusive story: I think we would get the story too in the future, but only time will tell. 8/10
Skull removal: This just makes the cookies straight up bland, thereâs not enough personality to the cookies without the skulls! 1/10

The most baffling part about China removing the skulls, ghosts and religion is that their own games like Genshin Impact have that kind of stuff too and are given a free pass.

And if they really don't want the kids to see that stuff, it's the parents' damn responsibility to do so, not the game's.
Not to mention there are also holidays that have those things like Halloween or the Hungry Ghost Festival which children also celebrate.
Iâm Chinese and I think I may know why they censor skulls on certain cookies.
Itâs because death is considered a very bad thing in China and skulls are often associated with death. They probably think itâs disrespectful for a character to have skulls in their design so they removed the skulls.

....i wouldnt mind pastry's redesign becoming a costume or heck, even another playable character...but i hope they dont redesign and replace the original because we had it for so long, it would be feel weird to suddenly change it...we have so much fanart and love of the pastry we have now...

The reason why the chinese ver of crk its diffrent
1 Red Velvet Dragon color was changed to purple due being the same as the china flag
2 changed some cookies skill like vamps BlackBerry and sparkiling due BlackBerry skill have skulls in it
3 changed some design on some Cookies
4 the mainland chinese ver of crk its not out yet

Regarding Pastryâs change, I guess they did it because they were afraid of offending religious players or audiences (Either due to China being mostly an atheist country or because the storyline touches upon the most questionable things about religious sects)
but then why lighten her up? that doesn't have anything to do with the religious aspects

Iâm not throwing the same kind of tantrums others do on twitter whenever someone âwhitewashesâ. Iâm just saying that here, they donât really have a reason for the skin tone change and itâs pretty confusing as to why they did it (The arts that get lambasted by twitter users are often painted with pastel color schemes or are humanized cookies with cookie dough usually being darker than average human skin since well, itâs cooked).

I think people are going to be overly divided by Lilacâs design change. One half will argue that itâs another pointless censorship done for the sake of modesty while the other half will claim that it had to be done because apparently, a shirtless Arabian character is just as bad as bombs (You know, the same part of the playerbase that went berserk over that update)
