- After binge-watching the Kung Fu Panda Trilogy, I can't help but dislike Oogway and feel bad for Shifu and Tai Lung, and here's why. In East-Asian cultures, teachers are highly respected, and students have a duty to respect them. When Oogway said Tai Lung wasn't the Dragon Warrior, Shifu stayed silent out of respect, even though he disagreed. But what about the other side of the coin? Shouldn't a teacher also have a duty to guide their students properly? Shifu and Tai Lung were both flawed but sincere. Shifu did his best to train Tai Lung, even though he made mistakes. Tai Lung, in turn, sincerely worked hard to learn from Shifu. Oogway, however, failed in this aspect. As the master of the Jade Palace, he must have known how Shifu was training Tai Lung and the mistakes being made. Why didn't he step in? His failure with Tai Lung ultimately led to his downfall. This makes Oogway a big failure as a teacher and master, failing to guide Shifu and other students properly.

Master Oogway was wiser than us all. Say if you made him the dragon warrior, what would’ve been the outcome? Unknown. Oogway sensed anything from a mile away. Yea he failed to see the darkness in Tai lung sooner. So did Shifu. But Oogway choosing the dragon warrior can’t be someone who they adopted. Tai Lung laid waste to the Valley of Peace as a direct result of being denied the scroll. If he was really worthy of the scroll, he would’ve respected Oogway’s decision.
That's not the point of the video. The video points out Oogway should have guided shifu and Tai lung so tai lung becomes a better person maybe for tai lung to become a better person who can accept rejection. Oogway could also explain in detail or more clearly why Tai lung is rejected. Oogway lacks communication skills that led tai lung to destroy the valley of peace.
Tldr : Oogway don't need to make tai lung dragon warrior he just need to guide him.

The Dragon Warrior was not even decided by earning it anyway, it was predestined. Po became a Dragon Warrior despite having no knowledge about Kung Fu. He was predestined from the start because Oogway had debts with the Pandas. The lesson here is you can't change your destiny. This is the reason why Neji from Naruto was right about "you can't change your destiny" principles.

Perhaps his refusal to make Tai Lung the dragon warrior was his final test. A test of humility, and accepting defeat. Tai Lung was the one who failed.

Since Tai Lung had used his Chi and was exhausted. It's like in LoL when you finally beat the low HP Darius after he Quadra Kill.
I feel like if Shifu did say something Oogway would’ve heard him out and explain why he didn’t select him
Oogway was waiting for Shifu to complete Tai Lung's training to see if over time after his training is complete Tai Lung would become worthy of being a dragon warrior.
But Tai Lung never became worthy of taking the mantle of the dragon warrior disappointing Oogway.
The reason why Tai Lung was unworthy was because his sole motivation of becoming the dragon warrior was because Shifu said so. Not to mention, Tai Lung gets easily scarred. As seen in the movies Tai Lung, when he was rejected by Oogway didn't try to prove Oogway wrong but set out to slaughter innocent civilians out of spite.
That's the difference between him and po, Po loved kung fu for what it was. For Po it never mattered who taught him Kung fu, as long as he could practice it. Po was pure and was not intending to become the dragon warrior, he just wanted to learn the essence of martial arts. Not to mention Po's panda heritage.
Oogway don't need to make tai lung the dragon warrior if tai lung is not destined to be one. The video points out that Oogway should have guided shifu and Tai lung better.
Tai lung also can't prove Oogway wrong because while Oogway say tai lung is not chosen because there is darkness in his heart. We all know that's not the true reason. Especially after watching KFP 3. Oogway could just be more transparent and honest. And a lot of things will be better.
Geez a lot of people didn't understand the point of the video because they blindly trust Oogway. Just look at Matpat video for more explanation in detail.
@@xicort3dsn42 but it is true Tai Lung had darkness in his heart. When Oogway told him he was unworthy he resorted to slaughter innocent citizens. And no there was always the choice of proving Oogway wrong. Oogway also was once a bloodthirsty warrior. So Tai Lung also had the potential to break fate and improve himself for the better.
And don't forget Oogway is Shifu's master and Tai Lung is Shifu's disciple. Oogway never promised Tai Lung the dragon scroll. That's my point. The sole reason Tai Lung practiced Kung fu was because Shifu told him to, the sole reason he dedicated his life to Kung fu was because Shifu promised him the Dragon scroll. Had Oogway denied that to Tai Lung from the beginning itself Tai Lung would have resented the Jade Palace for it, especially Shifu. Like how would you feel if someone tells you that your life would be cluster-f*** regardless of what you do. Oogway didn't want to discourage Shifu or Tai Lung.
Not to mention Oogway even gave him a chance as a candidate to become the Dragon Warrior. But in all his years under Shifu's training, Tai Lung did things only because Shifu told him to.
Like let's be for real, we know what the dragon scroll is. Reflection of self, a mirror. If Tai Lung looked upon the dragon scroll he wouldn't even be able to comprehend as he has not even defined himself as a warrior, he was still defined as Shifu's disciple.
Another point Po is more talented than Tai Lung.
@tecshonin1644 It's not a matter of who is more talented in kung fu the point is that oogway could have done better if you have a student who has a student of their own and you see that your student is not really doing a good job of teaching their student or if you just simply see that their student is heading down a bad path you should step in regardless because I am sure that oogway could clearly see how this was affecting tai Long and yet he chose to simply ignore it
@@janarriemcgee1599 In all his years of training Tai Lung never rebelled against anyone, and Shifu never bothered consulting Oogway about or what he was intending to do with Tai Lung, so Oogway didn't have a reason to intervene in Tai Lung's training. I have already explained in the previous comment that Oogway did not denounce Tai Lung and even gave him the chance to become the dragon warrior despite everything else. And one major fact that all of you are ignoring is that, Tai Lung practised Kung Fu solely for the dragon scroll, a scroll that was never promised to him by Oogway
And we all know Tai Lung was not ready to read the Dragon Scroll.
And if you are still not convinced, When Oogway rejected Tai Lung, it didn't take Tai Lung long to slaughter innocents and attack his own master. All it took was a single failure, a single denial for Tai Lung to turn into a slaughterer, are you telling me a mass murderer is worthy of being the Dragon Warrior. Not to mention Tai Lung was showered with more attention and care than Po was.
And why I am telling Po is more talented is because despite all the rejections he faced while he was training under Shifu, he didn't turn into a murderer because of it but worked hard to prove Shifu wrong and even gained his acknowledgement.

There was a theory that the reason why master Oogway rejected Tai Lung was because it was a final test to see if Tai Lung was going to accept the rejection or not. But since Tai Lung didn't accept the rejection, he became rage full and caused destruction in the valley of Peace, and that's how master Oogway knew that Tai Lung wasn't worthy to be the dragon warrior.
It was not. Oogway will choose Po anyway because he's a Panda and Oogway was saved by a Panda before. So the Dragon Warrior title is predestined not earned since Po became a Dragon Warrior despite not earning it. If it was earned, Shifu and Tigress deserve the title more than Po.

Still stupid because that's not the true reason of why Oogway choose Po to be the dragon warrior. Oogway explain it in KFP3.
To summarize PO is chosen because he is destined to. So even if tai lung didn't become evil, I doubt he will be the dragon warrior. That's why Oogway should have just guided shifu and Tai lung to have better mindset in their training.
And thus Oogway caused death and destruction of others by not averting this. He knew what was coming and was lazy, and a terrible teacher for not attempting to redirect this, he knew genocide was coming and let it happen.

In short, Tai Lung will never be chosen no matter what and the proof is Tigress. Tigress never rebelled and she worked hard to get the title but Oogway still chose Po despite Po having no knowledge about Kung Fu.

2 obvious reasons why writers did this:
1st: He actully might have tried to show him the right path
2nd (probably what it is): It wasn't Oogway's work to teach Tailung
Also actully Ooogway was actully just testing Tailung by rejecting him for becoming the dragon master.
Imagine being a teacher and purposely giving your student a test that they will 100% fail. That's called unfair in real life but wise in Kfp fandom apparently.

Tai Lung wasn’t sincere though. He’s actions afterwards literally proved that. The point of the Dragon Warrior is that it chooses you not the other way around.
Considering Tai lungs reaction to being rejected, it's clear that oogway was right. Also, the principles of Kung fu are not simply to learn how to fight but to have peace in oneself and with the universe around oneself.
It's very clear that oogway was not only wise but his senses and visions were 100% correct. Literally the entire movie was outlined by oogways dialog, lol.

The mistake was teaching tai lung what the dragon warrior is. Train/raise him normally, maybe even try to make him a fellow teacher. Then, tell him about it when hes matured enough. Though, we wouldve missed out on the best antagonist in the kfp franchise

@xicort3dsn42 Po could have easily done the same as Tai Lung. I think this new theory of Oogway being a villain is overthinking it and missing what was important. Did Tai Lung have a right to be upset, yeah, but not to go on a temper tantrum and start killing people. We are really only given the face of what happened at that time and Oogway may have tried, but seen something he couldn't fix, but Tai Lung himself had to fix. There is no secret ingredient to life.
