  • A year ago today I met my father for the first time in 20 years. As a kid and adult I’ve dealt with a lot of self worth issues and depression, but I am truly thankful for these hardships that have shaped who I am today. It’s how you deal with these experiences that shapes you. I filmed this in hopes to inspire parents that are disconnected from their children to reconnect and to show kids with less than ideal situations that you can have an incredible, fulfilled life full of love and success if you can make the right choices and learn from other people's mistakes. No matter the circumstances you were given, you have the ability to be an incredible human-being with immeasurable worth. I’m honestly extremely self conscious about sharing this but if it helps one person, it’s worth it.

    Thank you for documenting.. Just found my father after 20 years and this helped.. I am 37 and haven't seen him since I was 17.. I'm from Denmark and he's from Gran Canaria (spain) and I'm flying down to visit him in 3 days.. It's never too late! thank you.

      Wow man that's heavy, I'm super happy for you for finding him! Be careful of your expectations, but also keep in mind those can change. When I first reconnected with my father he was in rough shape and I was pretty disappointed but over time he has worked on himself and I can actually see us having a meaningful relationship now. Enjoy your visit with your dad and best of luck!

    I meet my son for the first time after being at his birth this week. I spoke to him over the phone briefly today for the first time. And I almost got into my sad story as well and I caught myself. I redirected the conversation to him I wanted to know what his likes and dislikes. My story is a little different that I come from a different social status from my child's mother. I realize real quick in Court, that without a lawyer I wasn't going to win or get anywhere so I guess I just threw my hands up in the air and gave up. But I wanted him to know that I didn't walk away because I didn't want to be with him. I guess that's when I started with my story. I hope all goes well next week. My plan is to start off being friends first. I got a lot of catching up to do.

    Andrew I found your F550 build highlighted on someone else's channel tonight and it was so amazing I wanted to find out more about you three so I followed the link to your channel and I scanned down until I found this video. I really appreciated you giving your Dad another chance! I notice you have a positive attitude and I am sure your Dad is proud of you. My wife and I have four kids and they are my greatest gift from God, they are a privilege and a trust. A wise man doesn't have to learn from his mistakes, he can learn from the mistakes of others. You have done that well. I'm sure you will be a great Dad! I look forward to seeing more of your videos!

    Hello
    Thank you for this. Last week my birth father contacted my mother saying he wants to meet me, I'm trying to decide whether or not I agree to meet with him.
    I hadn't seen a video like this before, but I thought of documenting mine too, altho I don't think he'll agree to being filmed.
    At least you had your sister to do this together, I don't have anyone. I can't ask advice from any of my family bcuz they all hate him.
    Idk what Ima do yet, this whole situation makes me sick to my stomach!
    Altho I do share your mindset that you shared at the end: about hardships shaping you to being who you are now, which is a positive thing to come out of those hardships.
    I have the same mindset bcuz I've also had to overcome a LOT, which is probably why I have little patience with ppl who are "woe is me" sob stories & playing victim. I'm happy you pointed that out to him & said you don't want/need to that from him
    If I decide to meet my father, I hope I don't encounter victim stories from him, tho I doubt it bcuz he's too egotistical for that. - ugh I can't be prejudiced thinking about how he was in the past; I'll work on it.

Did you talk with your father about the accident? If he finds the story of it (especially how Kicker came into your life!!) 1/2 as inspiring as I did, it seems reason enough to approach life with a positive outlook.

      @@AndrewMuse That sounds very incredible ... and healing. My thoughts will be with you as you navigate through those waters. I know you are busy going in many directions but have you thought about writing a book? The video you posted was a snapshot ... an edited version of what you wanted us to see and hear. A book would fill in the gaps giving context to the emotion and sensation to the feelings. Best wishes to you, Kicker, and all of your family!

    I'm in the same situation right now. Have not seen my day sinse i was 6 in kindergarten. Now im 26 he finally found me on facebook. After 20 years but I haven't accepted his request. Im nervous and very emotional. Always wanted to learn how to be a man. I missed out on a lot of lessons. My mom did the best she could to raise me right. And I still made a lot of poor decisions in life. However, God bless me to get my life black organized. And now i have the opportunity meet my dad maybe half of my other family. Your story inspired me bro. But i still don't know what to do.. it's difficult for me to forgive at times. I just want to be sincere and heal from my past. Any advice people?

      @AndrewMuse  Před 6 lety +1

      Hey Jettie, Thank you for sharing your story and I'm sorry you've gone through a similar situation. I think if anything you can use the meeting to get the questions you want answered. If there is an opportunity for a relationship then that is your choice. I would be a bit guarded as well. Over the last year (since I filmed this) my father has made a massive effort to get this shit together and there may be an opportunity for a relationship . Still guarded but supposedly Einstein once said "Holding a grudge is like drinking poison and hoping the other person dies". Protect yourself, don't dive in head over heels but I say see how it goes. Good luck and much love!
