Chuck shulder lmao what exactly is feel to you? Dedicating one's life to music to an instrument? Or shitty vibratos with exaggerated facial expressions?
This piece is harder than it looks. You need serious muting skills to play it right. And there's ornamentation and agogic elements that are missing here but make the song more dificult.

If anyone underrates Broderick, they are absolutely out of their mind. He's a monster, and as far as technical ability goes, he was Megadeth's best guitarist. He could play any of the solos absolutely clean, without flaw.
+Philip Trouve Because you grew up listening to Justin Beiber and Nicki Menaj and accidentally stumbled upon this beautiful piece of music and your ears couldn't process the perfection.
Easy. People who have more exposure to the classical guitar and lute aren't going to be biased towards him just because he's in Jag Panzer or Megadeth. This is a stiff performance. It's great that he's stepping outside his comfort zone... but then that's also the problem. He's not in his comfort zone here, and it shows. fwiw I didn't hit dislike
Jonos Marothy Chris Broderick loves classical and flamenco guitar playing, he said so in an interview, I don't think he stepped out of his comfort zone just yet
No doubt about it either, he wouldn't be in this video performing this piece if he didn't love classical! But the proof is in the pudding: rock/metal is not classical, and he is audibly out of his stylistic comfort zone in this performance.
Jep. I also think he is one of the best guitarist right now. He really can play nearly every kind of style in perfection ... well done and thank you for that beautiful piece ... Chris Broderick !
People are funny! Chris is not just an "e" guitar player....he is, above all, a great musician! Next some people are going to say that Alex Skolnick doesn't know how to play jazz.
I like this way of playing the lute suite #2 gigue the best. Each note part of an appeggio, not ringing on and interfering with the counterpoint. Nice job. Wish I could have heard the whole thing.
There are people who understand this is an undergraduate performance and lacking in many ways. But a good performance is in the ears of a listener based on their level of sophistication. A graduate level performance would include phrasing for example. And phrasing is much easier with right-hand planting techniques which Chris is missing. To my ear this gets a thumbs down today though there was a time when I would have given it a thumbs up.
Well it most certainly explains his technique. After watching him play the guitar solo of Tornado of Souls I immediately knew that he had classical guitar background training. And I am a classical guitar player too.
Put the jackson down, please don't pick it up again. Keep playing the nylon, you don't deserve to be called a "shredder" you're too good for that chris.
Beautiful. Got to meet Chris last night and was floored by just how mellow he was and... Normal; meaning he doesn't have that typical social anxiety that many famous musicians seem to get when meeting people they don't know.
Dude Paul Gilbert is my FAVORITE guitar player but honestly I have better picking hand technique than he does. He only plays with his thumb and index finger and it's quite painful to watch.
I do not understand how people can say that this type of music/playing has no emotion. It's full of emotion. Apparently too much that some can't comprehend it.

Also, personally I did not find Broderick's solos to be as good as Poland's or Marty's. It was impressive technically but sounded very robotic to me. Even an amateur guitarist will tell you that technicality is one aspect of playing a guitar and feel is another. Mustaine lacks technicality since he is not formally trained like Chris but makes it up for the raw feel in his riffs. But yea I agree, Mustaine can't shred if his life depended on it which is why he hires amazing guitarists for that. His solos are repetative and simplistic but man does the guy awesome rhythm guitar!

Everyone who knows even not a "lot" about music, knows that Megadeth are way better than Metallica, and the albums they made show this. It kinda has to be that way since Megadeth guitar parts are extremely difficult to play.

It really pleases me to see someone so renowned in Metal able to enjoy and play beautiful classical pieces like this. Two of my favourites. Awesome.
