  • Shohini Kundu explains how decision making has evolved during our times and how it is affected by today's technology. She also explains about the importance of ethics in the decision making framework for making choices. Shohini is a writer, debater and a speaker. Recently she has been focusing on the socio-economic contracts that shape our modern world. Her writings have appeared in Forbes, the Huffington Post, and the New York Times.
    Shohini is currently doing her PhD in finance at the University of Chicago’s Booth School of Business. She currently serves on the board of the Telluride Association, an educational non-profit with a mission to providing young people with free educational programs emphasizing intellectual curiosity, democratic self-governance, and social responsibility.     The speaker brings up the right Big Questions, but misrepresents her two key examples. 1) She defends the crops/monsoon superstition on the basis that it has withstood the test of time. Hashtag defending bad math. 2) She implies COMPASS decides based on race. I am concerned about COMPASS’ bias (cf my Scientific American blog article I wrote for that reason), but it is critical we don’t misrepresent what we seek to criticize.

      The correlation between the variables used in compass and race exists because of the underlying systematic racism in law enforcement in the USA.
