But still surveyors are not getting agre to alter to port for fwd of abeam , if there is no ROC. I agree we can alter if there is no ROC. Thanks sir, video is very good and simple . Nobody has yet told before this in that you can alter .
Well, thank you and let me share the extract from Practical Guide to the Rulles of the road, situation 07 for RV. Q. Can you alter course to port? A. Yes I can. Rule 19d says avoid a/c to port for avessel forward of the beam other than overtaking and this is overtaking situation.
Rule 19 D-1, Avoid a/c to port for a vessel forward of beam other than for a vessel being overtaken. As per COLREG 19D, you can overtake from either side.
Hellow sir , the explanation was very helpful. I had a doubt in the situation where there was one vessel on stbd bow and another on stbd quarter. The action of taking all way off has been taken by which rule ? Is it rule 2b , 8E or 19E. Thank you
R19 E is applicable when you hear a fog signal forward of your beam and target may not be detected on radar being closer ( about 2 mile, as per the range of sound signal) R8 E is applicable to allow more time to asess the situation in both sections i.e II (insight)& III (RV). Thus R19 will have this application R2B is related to application of common sense all the time, even if there is deviation from your vessel or other vessel. So partly all rules become active in this case. However R8E is more relevant and leaves no doubt to reduce , stop or revese if required.
Very nicely explained, Explained everything in detail.
Excellent explanation sir

Aren't you supposed NOT to alter to port for a vessel fwd of the beam? Even when overtaking? In RV that is
Rule 19 D-1, Avoid a/c to port for a vessel forward of beam other than for a vessel being overtaken. As per COLREG 19D, you can overtake from either side.
But for last situation prope answer pls
