In the military barracks in Germany, around 1971, high as a kite on hashish. This song playing on a thousand dollar stereo setup, bass turned up, the band crawls inside your head and makes itself at home. You are one with the music. 5 or 6 guys in the room , no one saying a word, all just knodding our heads to the beat. Thousands of miles away from home, but we are at peace with the world.

I first heard this awesome song when it came out in 1969.. Rare Earth was great then and they are still great some 54 years later!!! Not many groups can outlive the generation they came out with!!! Rare Earth hangs in with Steppenwolf, Iron Butterfly, Rolling Stones and others!!!! ROCK ON!!!!
They still make music like this, but mainstream radio stations rather play music which the masses can consume and don't trigger responses of inspiration or admiration. Just like modern art and architecture slowly replacing true masterpieces. We are approaching the state of the world sketched by Aldous Huxley in Brave New World and people longing for true artistry are slowly but certainly becoming the feared minority.
Another wonderful example of the overwhelming musical talent of the 60's and 70's. This band and it's music was overshadowed by other bands marketing machines. But real music NEVER dies and this is an example of talented musicians / writers making REAL music that's timeless. That's why we're all still enjoying this music in 2023, because it's timeless and REAL!
My dad's favourite song. He could spend all day long listening to this, and Child in Time of Deep Purple. He passed away 3 years ago. God, how I miss him! He was truly a good person, father and last but not least, my friend.
I’m 60 and been digging this tune since I was 14. I’m a white dude. Turned on to this by a black co worker back in the 70s. We didn’t what color we were, we had joked and fun. Miss the big afros.
This was my dad's favourite song, he was a true old school fan of disco, soul and 70s rock and roll. He passed away last year but I swear pieces of him live on through music like this

In in my late 60's now and still enjoy listening to Rare Earth. Used to drag up and down main street on a Friday night and all I really liked to listen to was this band and Grand Funk Railroad on my 8 track through some Kraco speakers. Say what you want, but I think we had the best Rock 'n' Roll in the 70's.
I actually like all the long versions like CCR"s "I heard it through the grapevine", Vanilla Fudge's, "You keep me hanging on". Especially Rare Earth's "I know I'm losing you", love watching the videos of them playing on stage.
Absolutely some of the best music ever made. Sadly, "screaming" instead of actually having a voice and singing took over and then "rap" came along and it was all downhill from there. Rare are the songs these days that are worthwhile actually listening to, music wise, skill wise, lyric wise.

It was, it is, and will be forever a true MASTERPIECE not only in rock music but in THE MUSIC. One of my 10 favorite songs of all time. Greetings my brothers & sisters in rock from Bucharest, Romania!
Thanks. Memories of my younger days. 73.5 now, lol. Oh, the days of pot, acid, ampheds, sopors, etc. What a time it was to be a hippie in the 60s & 70s, Woodstock. I barely survived. All thanks to God. Yes, I'm still here at age 73.5. Most of my old friends are not, RIP. Thank God for every breath & heartbeat.
Remembering the days but this one right here..1971 about to give Birth now she's 50 I'm 70 Rona Season but Almighty God Got Us I Believe You must Get Ready Be Ready At All Times.. Thank You for bringing this Forth
God got me to Joe, I am a a gospel music lover now but the music we had back in the day was irreplaceable. Some time I go back listen to that Motown sound.
Had this exact 8 track in my 1972 Toyota Corolla 1600 Coupe, and my other tape was Sly and the Family Stone...Let me tell you, i played this a zillion times and still love it,,,gives me a rush every time the tempo kicks in,,,oh yeah!!!
I was 11 almost 12 when I first heard Rare Earth back in 1970. Pete and the men of this band blew me away. Pete the great drummer he is, could also belt out a tune. Especially on this song. Now that's talent to play drums and also sing. John Parrish (Persh) killed it on the bass. His solo knocked my boots off. It's a shame he was an underrated bass player. Every one got a turn to solo on this song to show their skills and talent. Great job. My favorite song ever in my life time and I'm now 65.
Ray Monette on guitar, his solo was kick ass. Gill Bridges on saxophone was "bitchin". He made the tambourine sound cool. And Mark Olssen on organ phenomenal. A fantastic band all the way around.
Genuine music, 63 years old and still this is legendarily epic to me, you can hear the instruments purely. Best version there is. It’s a pity this long version doesn’t get the reaction it deserves nowadays by youtubers
I remember loving this song, and babysitting and helping my mom clean base housing.... she took me to a a record/album shop in Sausalito... I wanted this album. I still have it today.... determination, appreciation, and a good, patient mamma. She took me there to get my most wanted album, even though she was working hard, to6 - my dad was in the Marines, and was in Vietnam 3 times, and overseas a lot... Okinawa, Philippines, etc. This song has lived with me forever ❤❤💙💙

Born in 1950, you do the maths.... Loved that tune then, love it still, right along with the public recording of "I am a man" by Chicago and "All right now" by Free...!
I've been playing drums since 1966 and I always enjoy listening to the drummer executing one heck of a brilliant solo! Forget all the fancy, technical stuff, this guy doesn't need it! He just plays what he feels, Yeeeeah!

It was a fantastic time for a teenager. I was 16 then and it was a discovery of music. Which you had never heard of. And such a huge range of different kinds of music. Name a band that wasn't good. Get ready has not lost its power after all these years. Timeless.
When a soldier on Fort Lewis Rare Earth played at a Puget Sound College and I went. They did this song for nearly 30 minutes, the drum solo nearly made me have to sit down on the floor I was so wiped out! I am a drum and Sax man...this song (I am now 69) gets played at warp12 twice a week in my shop for all my neighbors to jam with me!

I was a young kid when I first heard this I knew from then on I wanted to do this but never heard this version just radio play long story short they were my inspiration they are still #1 to me. Thank you for posting 2thumbs up.
I have this song deep in my soul, in my mind, since 50 years when I was 7 years old. I payed this song in my first drums. I was happy, and my family too. Great remember in my life.
I was 17yo in 1974 when I got to see rare earth along with several other bands like the eagles, deep purple, black sabbath, elp and earth wind and fire while attending California Jam 1. Two hits of window pane (those who know know), less than half a football field away with a path to get to the stage. It was a crazy time and being reminded of them through the music on CZcams that randomly pop up that I haven't heard in possibly decades triggering that in my life is amazing. I believe if my memory serves me well that this song woke everyone one up.
Had a 1970 blue LeMans convertible....The day Elvis died.. me and my best friend .. sat on an OLD bridge out in the woods . . And drank a fifth of JD ....and cried.. y'all . I.. I rarely cry.. ..

Saw most of original members in middle of a new minor league baseball field , only a stones throw up from Mississippi River. Drizzled light rain, nobody cared. Only 100 people at most and the wife and me. Sugar Loaf, Uriah Heep, Spencer Davis. Danced, played, danced some more & more. A groovy vibe for those who stayed. Best 3 HR free flow jam session and happening to this day. People getting off on vibe and jam. None better at genre than Rare Earth.
Únicos, fantásticos, esta batería debiera ser conocida y apreciada en todo el mundo. Rare Earth siempre vivirá en nuestro corazón. Y ya tengo 77 años de vida!!
I never would have believed that our musicians, writers, and performers would all die out and become unable to write their own songs or play their own music! Then came the advent of disco then rap. Now we haven't got anything thats a resemblance of good music. In the 70's I never would have thought it!
Kenneth Bryant & sungodrah AMEN FOR SURE!!! I can't believe it myself, nor would have ever thought it, but everything evolves in cycles! Evidently music follows suit!!! For the MOST part currently, the ONLY GOOD SHIT, is someone's REMAKE of an OLD GOOD TUNE, & GOTTA say, not always, EVEN as GOOD as the ORIGINAL!?!?
Saw Rare Earth at my hometown armory. That be had to be fifty years ago - unbelievable! I was fifteen going from middle school to High School and I still remember their performance.

Ditto. Thanks to my sisters!
no one cares.
YO TAMBIEN,IGUAL QUE TU.SOMOS IGUALES
It was, it is, and will be forever a true MASTERPIECE not only in rock music but in THE MUSIC. One of my 10 favorite songs of all time. Greetings my brothers & sisters in rock from Bucharest, Romania!
The Masters Olympia is coming your way
True words!
Sweet and soulful in the beginning, then a little shift, and the drummer kicks it up!
💯👏👍
Remembering the days but this one right here..1971 about to give Birth now she's 50 I'm 70 Rona Season but Almighty God Got Us I Believe You must Get Ready Be Ready At All Times.. Thank You for bringing this Forth
God got me to Joe, I am a a gospel music lover now but the music we had back in the day was irreplaceable. Some time I go back listen to that Motown sound.
Still one of the most under rated but talented groups in the music industry. Still love them after all these years!
i feel so blessed to have lived through this amazing era.........
I truly wish I had lived through this era. I was born in 69.
Right on, bro.!
RIGHT THERE WITH YOU BRO.....65 Myself and still, by the GRACE of GOD, going STRONG,,,,Bless all the OG HIPPIES OF DAYS FROM OLD
You and me both mark
Creeping up on 69 and would do it all... again!
Fucken Awesome!!! Music. I'm 68 and still Rock n Roll !!!!!! Get Ready!!!
I was born "71 and I know a classic Gold when I hear one; and this is Gold🎉💓
One of my favorite songs of all time😊
I danced Top less for my ole man to Rare Earth 47 yrs ago. To that song....
Can’t stop listening to this incredible version, they have it. Their incredible musicians, say no more….🎶🎶🎶🎶
Agree
The only version of Rare Earth that I'll listen to. You can never top the original. The drummer has a great voice.
The guitar is to,infact the whole album is off the rails Old school
He does
Had this exact 8 track in my 1972 Toyota Corolla 1600 Coupe, and my other tape was Sly and the Family Stone...Let me tell you, i played this a zillion times and still love it,,,gives me a rush every time the tempo kicks in,,,oh yeah!!!
Played more times than today's national deficit. EXTRAORDINARY!
This song made me miss my first hour of high school because it's play 21 25 minutes I don't know but I could not stop listen to the beat
OMG... in Karachi, 1979, I had a 1974 corolla coupe and this was one of the favorite songs... 🎉
How’s the Corolla doing
I agree I'm 71 and it never gets old
Genuine music, 63 years old and still this is legendarily epic to me, you can hear the instruments purely. Best version there is. It’s a pity this long version doesn’t get the reaction it deserves nowadays by youtubers
Then we are with it and the comments.
Drummer's soooo~lo~ !
I miss this kinda music live~!~
🎶💚🗝💚🎶💃
I'm with ya Paul I'm 62.. and in '83 I was bouncer that guarded the stage at a night club stood right next to the drummer! A dream come true...
This cut is what inspired my love for jazz.
@Burroughs Earl What's not ?
I wasn't there but I can feel it cause I can feel this great music and what it means. Thanks for your great and emotional comment Tammy. Peace and love for you and your Familie for all times ✌️🎸🎶💕
Awesome! San Francisco girl here with you!!!!
These guys performed this Live, recorded this on the double knacksack album 23mins wonderful. My father worked for the US Navy and rented to US Navy personnel, how I first heard them. Much Love!
I got your vibe. USMC 1972-2022
Sausalito, what a nice town. I'm down south of you in San Jose.
I'm 59 years old and still love that sound!
Born in 1950, you do the maths.... Loved that tune then, love it still, right along with the public recording of "I am a man" by Chicago and "All right now" by Free...!
I'm 77 years young still digging this great band and awesome song!
This song is the Bomb!! Those boys were BAD!!❤
I'm surprised more people are not UP on RARE EARTH. Back in the day this was a huge hit.
Still got my 45
well yeah . . in underground FM radio . . not casper AM
@@mastrclndr Wrong, it was huge on AM.
Because a lot of people don't know anything about music today...
So sad because we will never have any music like this ever again in our lifetime.
They were an okay band. One hit song doesn't make a band great. This is a decent tune but it's also weak. Like the rest of their catalog.
I've been playing drums since 1966 and I always enjoy listening to the drummer executing one heck of a brilliant solo! Forget all the fancy, technical stuff, this guy doesn't need it! He just plays what he feels, Yeeeeah!
hoooooo yeeeeaaaaaahhhhh more than agree. greetings from Corsica
such varied percussion sound, textures-.
Great song listening to the drummer right now and they don't play music like these these days too bad
@@raphaelrousso7124 Hey raphael! I just now discovered your reply! I'm glad you're not a troll! I frequently encounter trolls whenever I leave Positive Comments. Excuse me, but where is Corsica? God Bless you.
@@BrianCarnevaleB26 I've never heard drums described in this manner. Interesting, bud! Take care & God Bless!
I’m going to be 65 next week and I love the rhythms put in this an amazing drum solo !
I will be 65 in less than three months. Same here!
Best Snare sound EVER!
The band was off the hook, it would make you dance. You couldn't get on the skating floor when they played Getting Ready and Function at the Junction.
Hittin' that drum like it owed him money.
This was my mothers music, and I listing it after 45 years. great music thank you mom.
You're welcome, Dear.
@@Chris-ic6bp Your Mum knew her music!👏👍
@@wimpeters9615 ... thanks for the compliment 😊 ....but it was my music.era... she was more of a Sinatra/Dean Martin coroner's etc... It was my generation that brought in all that great rock music /heavily blues influenced. Ma'aan we had the best music through the 60s and 70s.... l'm still rocking it for the youngsters now. I love to make great Playlists and blast them for today's kids. The more l play my tunes... the less of their downer/trash/hate/crap of their's we all don't have to hear 😊
I was one hot chick (but not a mama) of 20 years old when this song was a smash hit. Now I'm 71 and I still rock out to it - yeah, I can still move those hips!
Possibly the most underrated drum solo in rock history. First time I heard it was almost 35 years ago. It still feels like a wonder to me to this day

I was playing rock 😂funky music as a drummer in those and also for recording groups on the road I gave respect to Rare Earth
It was San Francisco in 1971, and I was smoking a joint of panama Red, listening to Rare Earth, this long version. What a different world back then. I went into The Marines July 12th, 1971.
Panama Red....oh yeah...let's not forget Meshmacon (Michuacan) & Acapulco Gold & Thai Sticks & Hash Oil......or Lady Fingers & Nepalese Temple Balls hashish.....Brown Organic Mescaline
Forget, this world is over
The Marines... You do 'Nam?
Wow, cool ... I was only 15 in 71 ... live in Central Texas, so didn't do any marijuana but did drink alot of beer...LOL... anyway, for what it's worth, Thank you for your service! 😎👍
Life :)
This is one of the all time greatest groups, the drummer and his solo inspired me to start playing the drums. I've been a drummer self taught for over 56 years, I started playing self taught at 10 yrs old and am still playing now. I miss these guys real musicians!!!!
The drum solo is the best segment of the whole song, I wish I was not in a
apartment complex, this needs to be CRANKED !!!
Eric Washington~ Talk about a heavy hitting band listen to the song ( one fine morning) by light house
@@nancymurphy6727 oh,okay thanks will do.
Wanted to be a good drummer, never made it.
Oh well, I still have the set.
You obviously inspired by one of the two best drummers. The other is Ian Paice.
The drummer killed it on this song absolutely beautiful !!!!!
I have loved this band saw them twice in early 1970 they are the best!
The best band in this world I think!!!!!!!
Real old time classic rock sound from 60's!!! Salutes from Athens Greece!!!!
No way is this any kind of sound from the 60s. This was the 1970s baby, and it is still some of the best damn music out there today. Classics - forever and ever.
Right on brotha to both of you
Including you 2 grease-man 👍👌😊!!! One of the all time great
Long live jams ever recorded !!

I SAW THIS GROUP IN NORTHERN Indiana maybe 1978or1979 it was just great enjoyed it very much and still hearing their music
I AM 69. AND Now thats a great snare sound. still a great song goosebumps.
Me too
It was a fantastic time for a teenager.
Wow, hearing a absolute classic master piece that is over 21 minutes long is beyond words to describe it!
The entire band just kicks ass through the whole 20 plus minutes of this musical masterpiece.
Reminds me of another great rock classic - "Light My Fire' by The Doors.
Veri vell
Specially when the sax-solo starting HELL YEAH......
Motown RARE EARTH are an amazing Soulful groove Band.🌟👏O-u-ter-sight!!
@@captebbtide The drum solo reminds me of "Key" by the "Guess Who" on their "Canned Wheat" album.
This drum solo alone inspired me so much. I received my first drum kit at 13. Wow its still powerful.
I got my drums when I was 13, too. Never could get this down completely. Now I'm old.
@@joehamlet7576 long as you had fun trying. Music is life.
@@michaelfatino9837 Yep, I did. And yes, it is.
Only in those days could you hear a 21 minute song, even on FM. But now and then, some blazed late night DJ would slip it in, ever so fine
I'm 62 saw them at least 10 times the drummer is the lead singer and every one in the band gets his own solo just close your eyes and listen the drummer never misses a beat o my
Every snare hit is equal volume - no noise gates or pro tools back then - straight up skills!🤘
I'm 78yrs and i hear you.11-09-19.🗽🗽🗽👍👍👍
i am kicking 67 in the ying yang thank you motown, plus my 5 other brothers, the temps! this is CLASSIC FUNK!
Oh the ONLY elect"s is the AMPS! Iron butterfly, drummer nice, rare earth BEST!
I saw them back in the mid 70's. They were good and I have seen over 75 bands. It turned out better than I thought.
These guys didn't get the recognition they deserved they are top shelf funk masters of rock.
It did and still do
The best band ever . South Africa
This song is a masterpiece 🎸🎹🎵🎼🎶💯👍
Like the man said : Lets get into 20 or 30 minutes of get ready
Absolutely 💯
That it is my friend.Every time i listen to it it takes me to a good place.

Oh my goodness my older brother played this and I just danced and danced. Im in my 60 ‘s now and still loving it. I have the vinyl and will purchase from iTunes for my car
Saw them live in 1975 at Willamette University in Salem, OR. They blew me away--great musicians with a lot of soul.
21 minutes of epic musical masterpiece and then round it off with another 17 minutes of the ever green Ma.❤this band.
Genial Hammond
Genial Voice
Genial Drum

FIRST HEARD THIS ALBUM IN 1970......HIGHER THAN A KITE.......COLUMBIAN GOLD,IF MEMORY SERVES .
Pure Rock n Roll band. Highly talented, excellent players of instruments.
I would like to thank my big brother, who turned me on to this album when I was just 12. I was raised right!
Omg found them! Remembering hearing Rare Earth 🌎 growing up in 1970s California as a child & finally! Thank you 💗 🎙🎼
I remember when I first saw this album and thought "No way", there're too clean cut, was I ever wrong. These guys are bad ass.
I always expected a miracle of soots this song is more beautiful every time I put it on for over fifty years ! God I love this song!!!!
rudeman: Society dictated clean cut look for us then.....Tee
Cleveland, Ohio here. Now this is from my era. I love You Tube for letting people post all types of music. Young people don't know anything about groups like Rare Earth. This is real music.🎷🎸🥁🎺🎻🎹📯

There is GREAT music in every generation. Look for it. You will find.
63 yo here. Never ever heard that great long intro. Thanks.
The intro is worth the price of admission. The rest is just icing on the cake.
NUNCA PENSÉ VOLVER A ESCUCHAR MI MÚSICA DE CUANDO MUCHACHOS 40 AÑOS DESPUÉS SOY MUY VIEJO PARA EL ROCK AND ROLL Y DEMASIADO JOVEN PARA MORIR. ......
Kupa gadasz
but jus like cake ; you eat it all :)
Lol...one of my go to songs when tripping back in the day...put my headphones on and go away for a while....then long versions of Light my fire and inna-gadda-viva.....
Played this song all day at my senior picnic in 1970...........
I never would have believed that our musicians, writers, and performers would all die out and become unable to write their own songs or play their own music! Then came the advent of disco then rap. Now we haven't got anything thats a resemblance of good music. In the 70's I never would have thought it!
YES, IT S TRAGIC. THERE IS NOTHING GOOD COMING OUT FROM THE GREAT ANGLO-SAXON WORLD TODAY IN MUSICAL TERMS. WE ARE IN A BIG SHIT IN MUSICAL TERMS.
Maybe not in the mainstream, but there is a lot of great music coming out elsewhere.
Amen Kenneth..
Not to be outdone is a brand new Nashville class of country and it is a blend of country and rap !! It is called CRAP ???
50 plus years ago I first heard this while in the service. Still Amazes me. Vocals rhythm and DRUMMER 😊🙏♥️♥️♥️♥️
Saw Rare Earth at my hometown armory. That be had to be fifty years ago - unbelievable! I was fifteen going from middle school to High School and I still remember their performance.
Thanks to my late dad...I still have the LP .This music is here to stay.
