    My understanding is that it would have been much more inefficient to "give back" the original chassis to Logan because they have already re-set it up to fit Albon. If they wanted to give it back to Logan, they would have had to dissassemble the car, which makes really not much sense. Maybe I have been misinformed but if this is true then people are making too much of a fuss about this.

      That’s the answer that Williams gave. But the also said that the repair added weight (slower car) and that because of the added weight, the car is unbalanced, and it would take time to re-find the balance. I think that had a bigger factor than “oh we would have to re do the cars.” They had no problem doing it in the middle of a race weekend.

He was pulled up to F1 too early, instantly made a meme driver in large part because he’s American and turned into the punching bag of the paddock.
      While he didn’t have a crazy good CV, he won the FIA World Karting Championship, was a rookie along side Piastri when they had close title fight for the F3 championship, and finished 4th in his rookie F2 season beating all other rookies. I think Vowles is simply a pure data pragmatist, if it seems wasteful to use the mechanics time to swap chassis back, then you don't do it. I work in inspection in engineering and repairs have to be absolutely up to spec or superior of the previous (funnily enough almost applied for that job role at williams and aston martin). I said last year that they should have took Lawson for just one year even (everyone said why would they), but just for the higher chance of points and fewer crashes, as one place is worth way more (~$12million) than the wage you pay to a better driver who can secure that better WCC standing

    • @timoooo7320
      @timoooo7320 Před 2 měsíci +2

      Yeah I always thought a repaired F1 car is good as new. About Vowel's data pragmatism, he said he only used this year's data, not 2023's, when he decided that Albon would race in Australia instead of Sargent

    • @leonsshare
      @leonsshare Před 2 měsíci +8

      @@timoooo7320 Just to clarify, when I say the the repairs have to be as good as original, I mean they ensure the safety of the part is at least as good as original. What I don't accept is a suggestion from some that the repaired chassis given to Logan would somehow put him at higher risk, or that it's been 'patched up' in a crude way as if its duct taped together. I accept that the balance of the car would have to be adjusted and found again based on the weight distro, but the cause of his crash today was the contact with the grass beyond the track limit which I would attribute to him rather than the car, and he may very well himself too.

    It will a miracle if Logan makes it to the Summer Break. Not only did he crash (again), but he binned off the upgrades (including a new front wing) that had just been installed. They are having to revert to the old spec to get him through the rest of the Japanese Grand Prix.

    3:12 yes. Yes they are, the fact that he's been back on the grid at all since last year shows that Williams is at some commitment with him as any other team would say "Alex, you're kind here we bend to you and your wishes.. Logan, bye and whomever joins will be 10th in command after albon for our priorities"

      I feel a lot less for him knowing his whole family are Trump fans who think America makes rich people pay too much tax (which it categorically doesn't; they should be paying way way way more).
      His family treats and looks at everyone else the way F1 journalists and his team treat and look at him.

    Logan had to keep his foot in it. Otherwise he definitely for sure would have lost the rear end. He was taking a chance that he wasn’t that far wide and on the grass not even taking a chance it’s already too late to make up for that mistake he had to just try and keep this foot in it, the weight balanced like I said if Lifted spun it probably would’ve been worse cause he would’ve spun earlier.

    Completely agree with both of you on Logan. If Williams is going to behave in a manner that shows they have no confidence in his abilities (as justified as that may be - kills me to say that as an American, but I have eyes), seems like the kinder thing would have been to just fire him and be done with it.

    • @nollienick1121
      @nollienick1121 Před 2 měsíci

      Yeah same. I love having an American on the grid. But he just isn’t at the speed for f1.

    for the fp2 problem, someone said this a while ago, have a few "f1 show cars" waiting in the wings and let the reserve drivers go turn laps to dry the track. maybe throw some cool v8 or v10 engines in the back so we get all the cool noises, add sebastian vettel race with out trace fuel on board. give everyone a show while we get back to racing faster. then give the internet an opportunity to say "wow look at how good the f1 show cars are f1 should be like that" think of all the content 😂

    Logan: I guess Williams saw his potential (and his funding which might have had a clause in to this year!) and gave him another chance... Personally I would say 'treating' him this way does take the pressure off as Logan really has nothing to do but show he can drive!
    The question that remains is what does the team do now? "You're going to replaced at the end of the year unless you change our minds" or "One more cock-up and you're out." Bandwagon: Parachute Seb in for the lols and Mec will get to see if he's still got it for next year!

  • @loganlangford7625
    @loganlangford7625 Před 2 měsíci

    Something I thought about when Williams resigned Sargeant last year, is they might feel a bit trapped by their reputation - given they often get loaners of young drivers or rookies from other teams, they didn't want the optics of Logan torching his career in one bad year at Williams. Though now, it's backfired, b/c what happens if their loaner rookie bins a car and there's no spares?

    FP2 has singlehandedly converted me to a Sprint weekend supporter.
    They would have had to go out for a Sprint shootout regardless of how unfortunate the conditions are. If the conditions had been like this in FP1 on a Sprint weekend, teams also would need to go out, because it is the only practice they get...

      Feels like they're just running Sargeant until Antonelli turns 18 right before Monza.
      Then Mercedes get to see how he handles an F1 car before next season. Albeit they might have had to jump and give Sainz the 2025 drive before then.

    Saved the mechs a ton of work not having to setup 2 cars, and when you think about it, it was a good call as they would now have 2 previously damaged chassis to potentially see out the season with.

    I think Williams' plan for keeping Sargeant on this year, even though they're deflating his dwindling confidence, is because they'd rather do it to him than a new signed driver, given their financial situation and how few spare parts they can work with

Loved their dynamic as teammates in dtm and honestly cant wait any longer to see what Liam's got. Also wanna see what Alex pulls out of the bag with a bit more added pressure. Wtching Williams as it is is like keeping one eye open while shielding the other, while a car crashes slowly.

    Williams: “We don’t have a spare chassis ready in time for this season.”
    Also Williams: “We have been in F1 for decades.”
    You’d think any F1 team would have a spare chassis ready for the damn season, but apparently that’s too much to expect for F1s bottom feeders. Tell me again why F1 is the pinnacle of racing sports when its bottom feeders are somehow worse than most Indy teams?

  • @tybrody3718
    @tybrody3718 Před 2 měsíci

    Williams has said the correct things, but their actions are making Logan's situation tougher than it already was. He was struggling, coming off a poor 2023 season, and was behind the 8-Ball since Bahrain. The team have done him no favors. His confidence has to be toasts and can you even blame him after the Melbourne disaster. No one can imagine what that must have been like for him, and it caused the exact affect many predicted.
