If you listen to his audience at his shows, its clear who he is popular with. Girls. Not that there is anything wrong with having a niche audience. But the danger of having a niche audience is that you can end up becoming lazy, since all these girls will twirl their hair and laugh no matter what you say. Many stand up comics prefer to play to a wide array of audiences, because if you can entertain people from all walks of life then you know you are actually getting really skilled at what you do and your hard work has paid off.

Good point. Some victims don't know they were victims right away. Only after a certain amount of time, or even as they get older, do they realize they were victims. Then, they may feel so much time has passed, no one would believe them. They often don't report it. If they do, others might say, "If that really happened, you would have told someone sooner." NO. That's a form of 'victim abuse' right there and it's all too common. A victim will come forward when they are ready to deal with it, be it right away, or 20+ years later. They set the time table. It is their right.

In my experience, it's boys who are late teens/early 20s who are fans of D'Elia. I think they admire his attitude more than anything else. I've never seen his stand up but I heard him on Pete Holmes's podcast. While listening to it, I realized there was something wrong with him but I didn't think it was this. Although, that was back in 2012, so he might not yet have had the lifestyle that he later took advantage of.

While admittedly he comes across as very weird initially, you eventually understand that he just has a not serious personality and although I can believe that he has abused his power and taken advantage of girls through manipulation, that’s not why I like Chris D’Elia. He’s just funny and you don’t have to like it, but that’s why young men like him, not because of his, quite frankly, disgusting sexual habits (I’m not saying either way if he knowingly groomed an underage girl because I don’t know and nobody knows yet).

Women of the same age seemed indifferent. But if you haven't, please go listen to that podcast episode. It's "You Made It Weird" and it's episode #19. Usually when two comedians sit down and shoot the shit on a podcast, they're fun friends hanging out and that goes triple for Pete Holmes but D'Elia complained about everything and was really negative and persnickety. How have you lived such a sheltered life? 1 in 3 women are assaulted or harassed in their life so predators are EVERYWHERE not just online. I got a taste of how bad it was when I was 19. I was a hostess at a restaurant that had 3 male bosses in their 30s all married. One of them (who was also a girls college basketball coach which has haunted me for years) drove me home one night and tried to kiss me, I ran out of the car and tried to get away, he chased me up a flight of stairs trying to molest me and I had to kick him and run. The other one straight up fed me alcohol and raped me and the third was there for me when my parents abandoned me and helped me get my life on track...but as he did this he also attempted to kiss me and start a relationship even though I turned him down numerous times. Those experiences opened my eyes real quick. The predatory behaviour dissipates a bit when women get older (men prey on the most vulnerable of course) but still at nearly 40 I have to contend with male bosses coming onto me.
I think the bigger problem is parents not protecting their kids and warning them about older men. Society says women are "more mature" than men so its fine if 16 year olds date 26 year olds. Nobody bats an eye...yet teenage girls are not in a position to discern proper sexual behaviour and these men who know better take advantage.

@@evanjuleen i wouldn't say i would definetly not fall for it, because in think we forget how much our own mind can play into the predators interest. I worked with drug users for years, i am the child of an recovered addict and still i didn't want to believe that my partner was abusing alcohol until i found all the bottles in our basement. Many people who end up victimizing women are persons of authority, friends or family members and i absolutely can imagine justifying sketchy behavior to myself because i don't want to think of myself as a victim and i don't want to think of this person i adore, love, maybe knew my entire life or always looked up to as a predator. And in addition to that, even if i end up knowing i've bee n victimized they're still a person of power and i would be scared to make whatever happened Public because let's face it: there are victim-blamers out there who will dragg me through the mud. thats why so many victims don't report the crime at all or report it years later. Thats also why it is so important to teach the stuff your Mom teached you from early on, so hopefully the kids recognize the patterns before anything happens and before the predators sucheeded with their gaslighting. Unfortunately, there aren't many resources for parents how to explain this to their kids without scaring them unnecceralily.

It was also shown that in many exchanges, that both he and some of the girls presented, he immediately ended the conversation when he was informed that they were underage. My ex loved this guys comedy back in 2013, I took her to one of his shows for her birthday, he invited her back stage after the show, I said I don't feel comfortable with her going if I wasn't there, she went anyway, I was furious, but I felt we worked it out a few days later. 6 months later I find out she had been texting/sexting him ever since they met back stage, I guess sometimes 3 kids and a stable life aren't enough to stop some people from making back decisions. I tried watching one of his shows recently before any of these charges came out and I couldn't enjoy it, not sure its the history or that it just wasn't funny.
