  • Following up on a disastrous PSA submission, here are 27 more vintage cards sent in on the $15/card monthly special. The grades I receive restore a little bit of my faith in my own grading abilities. Enjoy seeing some very nice cards!

    3 PSA 9's on the 81 donruss. When you said 999, I thought this dude's crazy, but you hit the royal flush on the flop. Well done!!!! Clearly you're taking more time with the cards and hitting on much more grades 👍 that's awesome

      Thanks for watching! This was definitely a submission I was pleased with. But here's the head-scratching crazy part - this group of cards was sent in 1 week BEFORE my nightmare submission. I got the second group of cards returned first (by a significant amount), with the (IMHO, lol) awful grades. I can't imagine that my own standards changed that much, LOL.
      That being said, I am trying to be more conservative as I think I have been too lenient on surface issues and even maybe centering.

      @@jbscardshow just remember grading is all a crapshoot especially when you sent it to PSA because they are incredibly inconsistent especially when compared to SGC. I'm not sure why that is but it's just my take on it based on what I've seen.

    I don't think PSA is using OC qualifiers anymore, they just take it down a grade (or more). Thanks for sharing, it makes me feel better when PSA breaks my heart every other submission lol.

      Thanks for watching - glad you enjoyed! All of us collectors are in this together, lol. Like I said, this was the first submission I'd sent in in three years, so I don't have a lot of insight into any potential grading standards change (only gut feeling and hobby buzz there). I definitely can't argue for or against your point, since I haven't ever managed to get an O/C sub. Another point I might hammer on someday is PSA's controversial '.5' grades....
      It's all about the consistency - gah!!!!

    Currently PSA grades 1965's super strict imho for some reason.

    • @jbscardshow
      @jbscardshow  Před 10 měsíci

      60's are honestly not my strength, so I can't argue hard either way - I did think that the Perez grade was harsh, though. I am more familiar and comfortable with 70's, 80's and 90's cards personally - where the significant bulk of my PC is. Thanks for watching!

    I have the number five ranked 1980 Topps hockey set on the PSA set registry. I must have opened at least 6 wax boxes and three vending boxes of this year trying to complete it. 1980 T Ray bourque is consistently off center either top to bottom or left to right. Yours is way off center T to B. And even worse the back is miscut. Additionally I see touches of wear on all four corners. In the old days that would probably come back as a 8 (oc) or 8 (mc). PSA has cut back on the qualifiers in the past few years so that's probably why you got a 6.
    Your 74 Pete Rose should have definitely got the MC qualifier because of the cut on the back. You got a deal on that.

    • @jbscardshow
      @jbscardshow  Před 2 měsíci +1

      Thanks for watching and really appreciate the insight on the Bourque! It is not a card I am terribly familiar with (now if you'd like to discuss the 1982 Donruss Cal Ripken Jr - that's a different story, lol). Where on a sheet was Ray at? Typically, cards that have centering issues were near corners (1979 Ozzie Smith for example).
      We are in agreement on the Pete!

      @@jbscardshow well I finally broke down sent in two submissions at 14.99. to think I used to get bulk rates at 7.99. between the two submissions it's 158 cards total virtually all vintage hockey and most of them commons. Very good detail on your process. I’m the same way. I give a quick glance or overview of the card. Then without my contact lenses in, I look super close. Upward toward a lamp, then downward so the lamp light illuminates the surface to see wrinkles dimples etc. My cards from March will be here next week and I’ll do a blind reveal too. Nice job again.

    One final bit of constructive criticism - this is the first of your videos that I have watched. You need to be better organized and not jump all over the place. The fumbling around because of your disorganization takes up a lot of time on your video. Time that is precious for everyone. Additionally I wanted to see the 4 McCovey's revealed consecutively.

    • @jbscardshow
      @jbscardshow  Před 2 měsíci

      Thanks for sticking it out! This was an earlier video of mine - still figuring things out on it. Hopefully I've gotten better already (check out some of my more recent reveals!) but I know I'll always have room to improve. While I try to make things flow a little better, one thing I'll always probably end up doing is talking about the cards, though - that's just me.
      Oh also - all my reveals are blind so sometimes the order of them is just what it is.

  • @channelperl2144

    Why would you grade one 79 McCovey let alone 5 of them?

    • @jbscardshow
      @jbscardshow  Před 10 měsíci

      Lol, thanks for watching. The McCoveys all looked pack fresh to me - I think two actually had a shot at a 9. I was wrong, obviously, but a HoF player, 70s card, PSA 9? Worth $15 grading fee all day long. Now again, I missed a bunch, and on top of that when I pulled a lot of these cards for grading- the market was still higher than where it is today. All part of the grading game, though admittedly I generally try to be pretty conservative. I’ve been doing it a while, and still have plenty to learn.

      Thanks for watching! I appreciate the feedback. I wasn't sure on the Borque - I think it's difficult to tell when three borders are identical, but then one is different because of the name/team block design. That and borderless cards! I lean towards agreement with you on the Rose - I sent that one in telling myself I wouldn't be surprised with whatever they came back with due to the cut on the back. Hope you enjoyed!
