- DEVO, a groundbreaking band, originated in Akron, Ohio, creating raw "Hardcore DEVO" music in basements and garages. In 2014, they performed rare pre-fame songs from 1974-1977 at the Fox Theater, Oakland, for 10 captivating shows. This concert film combines their early music and band history through interviews, offering a unique glimpse into their evolution before hits like "Whip It.

Incredible ground breaking band to this day. Nothing like them before or since.
The LP of this sounds great.....what a great concert it was! Also, mention has to made of Josh Freese's excellent drumming here.....it's not easy to carry these odd beats off.
Alan is/was irreplaceable IMO
Exactly,@@michaellorenzen8200
Agreed. I love Alan and he was one of a kind. But Josh was fierce here
@@michaellorenzen8200 Oh, that Alan forever. But most of the hardcore songs were played by Jim Mothersbaugh on electric drums

rip bob, gonna miss his toons jam on the band. going to see them still in couple weeks their last run - saw them in the 80s twice, i owned all their cassette tapes thru the 70s n 80s this was before u tube and cd/dvd's
Dream come true to see a live show of this era!
I always liked devo, but this show has given me a different perspective. Impressive.
At this particular moment, Devo was the last concert I saw. It was also my very first. One of the most intelligent bands, ever.
Bob was squeezing some great sounds out of that Les Paul. Amazing show
Crikey, I've never seen this before, DEVO deserve more recognition, excellent stuff.
That was amazing. A lot of my favourite Devo tunes are from this period. Never knew Bob2 played bass on Clock Out.
OMG this is glorious. Thank you. We are DEVO
Fantastic gig, they still rock big time!
Wow. What a cool thing to stumble across!
Hell yeah!! Spud from Texas here!!!
This Hardcore set is soo awesome.
I just love it soo much.
Thank you very much for this Doc.
Listening to this, the short little intro they did to "Stop, Look, and Listen" is a throwback to the into to their mashup with Neil Young on "Hey, Hey, My, My". Very cool little nod.
Freaking awesome!!!!
Thank you. 🙏
The real and tragic direction of De-evolution can be consoled slightly by the ridiculous and energetic goofiness I feel while Devo is at the helm.
You guys have been my north star since my earliest memories. I am 55 now and have been a DJ, Devo gave me the directive to be different and create my own sound without caring about peoples reaction. Thank you.
Wow! HC Devo live 😮
RIP Bob. Thanks for teaching a 10yo boy that I always have a choice. Music matters.
What a perfomance ...!!!!!!
Yes you do not need to look far to see the evidence of DEVOLUTION! Thank you Devo still as relevant as ever.
We Must Repeat!
In Australia Please 🙏
Fabulous.
a lot of these songs remind me of stuff that Frank Zappa did all sorts of bizarre tempos , chord changes , and lyrics that are flat out strange but these SPUDS are somehow devolved to a place I don't know yet love ! are we men ?
Devolution! NnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnNaNa!🎶🎵
Awesome! 🤓🤟
This concert offends me in so many ways. I love it!
Not me, I love it because the songs are great.
That drummer!!!!!!!! What a beast????
Haha, yeah so good Dave Grohl stole him for the Foo Fighters.
Joshua Freese's performance, playing with Devo, at Lollapalooza in 96...is incredible.
@@markwarner1616that whole show is so fucking amasing
however, Alan Myers played them better still
Devo active in the music scene is always good. RIP Robert Casale & Alan Myers.
Yessss!
Glorious
Love the prelude to Mechanical Man on Hardcore Volume 1 when Rhino released it in the early 1990s.
I never realized Gerald played a right hand bass flipped over.
They are an institution. We are Devo.
are you a Spud ?
@@michaellorenzen8200 And I'm looking for a real tomato...
I have strong feelings about this!
brilliant.... 😺
DEVO= The Men Who Make the Music!
Yes.
I know it will never happen, but it would be rad if they did one last HardcoreDEVO tour.
And then you realize this was ten years ago
Legends.
I love the whistling squeeky wizzy banger sounds. 😢
I've got DEVO and I've got Cardiacs. I'm a happy spud.
Their best work was the hardcore Devo era. The first couple of records were pretty good, but for a band that was so critical of the mainstream, they ended up just joining it and fading out in the 80’s.
Can't disagree. Many established guitar based or 'classic rock' acts who formed in the 1970s or earlier struggled to adapt to the synth drowned 80s. Neil Young (sued by his record company), Queen (which albums are better, Hot Space/Kind of Magic or ...Opera/Sheer Heart Attack?), even Zappa, etc. Devo adopted synths so early, by the 4th album they were becoming indistinguishable from every other bland New Romantic or synth pop band. Devo albums still better crafted than most of the era.
Devo invented the 80s in the 70s.
They devolved as they predicted !
51:37 is probably my favourite live show moment of all time
That's Andy Roy.
This is wonderful! It's almost all shit you've never heard.
I say that with confidence because it's almost all new to me!
EDIT: Oh, there's SOME classic bangers in there.
Kent State -Devolutionary end of the beginning for some, the beginning was the end for others...
Cool as frig :))))))
Cómo quisiera que vengan al Ecuador.
I say it's all just wind in sails.
I know this is a shot in the dark, but I have begun to try to find the lyrics that seemed to be added here to U Got Me Bugged. I have been looking at the various lyrics resources online and the section that begins at about 01:14:20 seems to be a "new" section. By the time we get to 01:15:07 we're back to the familiar "Now I'm hopelessly entangled ... " and ends/rhymes with "strangled" (these lyrics appear online but earlier in song). Does anyone know what the seemingly new lyrics to that section are? I'm trying to find out - I think I'll also try to isolate the voice. That may help. I f'in' love this, btw - just found it tonight. I saw DEVO in Central Park in '04 which was beautiful and rocking and insane (they controlled the weather 🙂). I also saw them in ... 1980 (pretty sure that was the year ... memory ... so .. foggy ... )
Yeah. This. Ain't. An. Easy. Task....
Digitei besta no Google e apareceu tvs wide screen .
Pro skater Andy Roy jumps on stage @ 51:40 lmao
Are we not pins?..

In memory of Bob Casale we're gonna play all the songs we wrote before he joined the band
the tour was supposedly an idea of the late Bob's. Also, Clockout.
He wrote Fountain of Filth, and composed one of the riffs in Gut Feeling. Satisfaction was essentially kicked off by Bob 2
Before you embarrassed yourself here you should have done some basic research and DISCOVERED that Bob Casale, despite briefly leaving in 1975, was part of the original 1973 band.
@jimbailey1122 Erm actually you're wrong because Bob Casale left in late 1973 and rejoined in late 1976 so U got the date wrong actually
Anyway here's the songs from the show They wrote whilst Bob2 was in the band
-Beehive
-Satisfaction (Mentioned in video)
-Timing X
-Soo Bawlz
-Stop Look and Listen
-Uncontrollable Urge
-Fountain of Filth (he co-wrote)
-Gut Feeling
-Clockout

Changed lyrics to be PC, sad.
Music? Nope noise!😂
Great noise then.
@@stevemurrell6167evidently a matter of taste. Some prefer champagne while others settle forBud Lite. Make my champagne pink. Do you also listen to the Gourds?
@@TranslateToEnglish I like many drinks.
@@stevemurrell6167 ..and the Gourds?
@@TranslateToEnglishI prefer Dove- the band of love.
devo = dead
Nah, that's your brain. SIB.
We are all listening to more Devo now, than ever. Look up Mutato Musika's movie, commercial and TV show musical work =)
@@DarrenDavisonThat's Mark Mothersbaugh, not Devo. He's never stopped since 1973.
Overrated. 😂
I LIKE THIS LOTS 🤓
I (ton o’) luv-luv this. It’s that’s good.
