- This video is the final chapter to a 9 year archery elk hunting journey. After 9 years Jeff (Dad) has finally harvest his first bull elk. It was an incredible trip where my brother and I were here to help my dad get the monkey off his back and take a great bull 4 miles into public land with an "OTC" tag!
“I’m not gonna get into the details of why it took my dad 9 Septembers to kill an elk. If you’ve elk hunted before, you know the details.”

It took me 5 Septembers of failing to finally fill a tag this past Fall.
I can relate to those special moments you shared with your dad on the mountain - during failures and successes as well. Congrats guys.
👍🏼 thanks for the comment. It took myself 5 years also. My dad helped me fill some tags the last couple years and it just didn’t work out for him on some of those hunts. Once you start to figure it out, it starts to get easier and easier to repeat. Never guaranteed, but certainly builds confidence!
Exactly! I taught my son and my daughter. They know how to survive now. I was a single dad.
I've watched every archery elk hunt I can find on CZcams and this story, footage and bull are all truly top tier. The real emotion and excitement between father and sons was so real and relatable. Happy Hunting.

I am n Dad of 3 👦 all older than 25jr. This hunt was done n day before my big 60 Birthday. Wat made this hunt more special to me lots of memories with my sons hunting together. Hope we can do it one more time be for I leef this world. We all so busy making ends meat. We hardly of n family barbecue together any more. Happy Birthday Jackie! Our time on earth is definitely short and it seems like each fall flashes before my eyes and is gone. My dad turned 62 this year and we are both fortunate to have good health that allows us to do these hunts. Good luck hunting with your boys in the future. Thank you for bringing back so many memories. My dad, brother, and I archery hunted elk together in the backcountry of Idaho for nearly as many years. Dad has now passed on, but the memories will never die.

Another awesome video! I think that’s the first bull I’ve seen harvested by a hunter in his long johns!! 9 years in the making, that takes a ton of grit and perseverance to see it through. Congrats to 3 of you!! 🙌🏻
Haha thanks hunt the top! It was great to see his efforts finally come to fruition. I would agree that you don’t see many bulls killed by someone in long johns! Literally everything we had except the clothes we slept in were drenched from getting rain on the day before and rain getting into our tent that night. He was actually wearing my long johns to top it off 😂

First time watching you great hunt, congratulations to your dad for his first Elk, my sons and I have started hunting Colorado three years ago hasn’t paid off yet, but we’ve loved every minute. Enjoy those times together nothing like it.
Coming from the Midwest to hunt elk it took us a few years to get the hang of it also. I have been elk hunting with my dad for the last 6 years (before that he hunted with a few friends). The first 3 years we struggled, the next year I killed an archery spike bull, and the following year I killed a 320” rifle bull. Now we are 3 for 3 the last 3 years with my dads bull. Once you figure it out, it starts to get easier. Either way the memories are special. Thanks for the comment Roger!

This is a great video, possibly one the best I've ever seen. I never got a chance to hunt with my Dad. So I learned on my own with a friends Dad. My Dad worked 100+ hrs a week and listened every year to: "We can buy steaks for a year at a tenth of that cost! and not raise a sweat doing it" (WW 2 vet and really tired of guns, he left me with three he brought back from Germany). Both my boys were (are) Eagle scouts and could track anything I asked for. but neither liked venison. So,... we hiked for miles, we tried it with cameras, but zooms made it too easy and that's really not hunting, That's not the shared adrenaline rush you get when your with friends trying to fill a tag. What a great hunt. I am a little younger than your father and starting to have these types of hunting experiences with my now adult son and daughter. I know how special this hunt was for your father. nice guys, i think ya already understand what hunting with dad is. i guided for a couple yrs. in "the bob", 38-39 yrs. ago, i dont use or have a cell phone, the quality of photo and vid is remarkable, we didnt have that :) . nice job guys and congrats dad, thanks for bringin things back to me.

Hunting is also something i grew up doing with my brother and father from the age of around 6. In my late 30s now and i still share this bond with my father on a yearly bases. We've talked more than we hunted and have gone more years without success than we always have with but its not about the harvest its about the experience. We lost my brother 17 years ago now but our hunting season always fell on his birthday and i believe thats what made the bond tighter. That first year going with out him was probably the closest we ever came to not going but i had to drag my dad out and he probably had to drag me out as well, one of the hardest hunts we ever made. What made that year even more special is my brother drew a tag that year that we ended up transfering into my name and i was able to fill it that year. Here i am the ripe age of 37 going on 38 and we still go yearly now i'm taking my boys out. Great film man and the quality content you brought with this i can see the bond between your father and you guys! Love what you bring, keep em coming!!! Congrats to your father by the way!!!
Sounds like hunting will always hold a special spot in your family also. Hunting is a part of the American culture and a tradition for many family’s. Thanks for sharing why it is so important to you. Congrats!! I just shot my first bull, a double lung at 17 yards, at 59 years old. Just wish my dad could have been there with me, but he passed in 2008. Make memories together as much as you can.

a friend of mine said something to me that has just stuck with me...at the end of your video you said something about killing/hunting because we as a true hunters have loved it since we we kids and we are the next generation to share with our kids they way you did with your dad...and all i can say is if you ever have to "explain it" to someone they just will never get it..a big congrats to you again to your dad and to you and your brother...thanks for making the video it was very well done..you showed the ups and downs of archery bull elk hunting..reminds me of an episode of fresh tracks with randy newberg and his son...way to go guys...happy eating that beast!

Amazing. I am planning my first elk hunt this year. I hope I get one too! I'd rather it not take 9 seasons, but better than never!
Haha it could happen in the blink of an eye or take 9 years. It took me 4 years to kill my first archery bull and it was a spike. Do as much e-scouting as possible before the season. Also podcasts helped me gain useful knowledge. Brian Call “gritty” has a great podcast with gear dumps and other info. Good luck this fall!

I had my two sons and my best friend with me when, finally, it all came together. Containing my emotions and feelings and keeping composure was impossible. So much hard work, and, those with me, who are closest to me, made the moment incomparable.
