    Spurs are like a car horn: you don't want to use either unnecessarily.

    I agree with you on most of your advice and knowledge on horses but I don't agree on spur's won't use and won't allow noone to use spur's on my horse so we half to agree to disagree on this subject.

    A good horseman earns his spurs.

    Great info, but you can't generally pick out spur length from height alone (just a starting point). An example is I'm 6'.2.5", my son is 6'.4" and my legs are almost 2" longer than his. Some people have their height in their body, others in their legs. Just a point of reference. Thanks!

    Spurs were created to engage the hind end and for lateral work, they were never created to get the horse to go forward. So technically if you are using the spurs in such a manner, you are using them incorrectly.

      Alexis Davis I'd like to see something backing that up. Spurs were designed to communicate. I use them to move my horses front, middle and rear.

    I won’t wear spurs or use them on a horse. I am of the opinion that a properly trained horse doesn’t need them. If you’re going to use spurs, you might as well use a regular snaffle bit. Same difference to me.

    Spurs are not needed to effectively communicate with your horse.

      Jean Clayton, Sonseere - To make such a statement tells me your horses are arena and trail hobby horses. What works for you and your horses doesn't always work for others. My favorite work horse and I can work together without a bit/bridle, but still, I ain't going to work without reins. Think beyond yourselves...

      sonseere10 I only uses my spurs for getting my horse to side step or if I need him/her to move NOW. We work cattle every day and sometimes get a cow that charges and just using the your thigh muscles isn't going to work as fast. See horses get hurt cause guys only use the muscles to move a horse. I use a boasl on ALL of my horse. And each horse has their own saddle and saddle pad. Everything I do is done to keep the horse healthy, safe, and comfortable. So your wrong on spurs

      @@12345harleyman you can communicate and ride a horse totally tackless with litterely nothing besides the horse itself and you. No spurs whips bridle leg wraps bell boots martingales etc. Personally I ride my mare in spurs but I also ride her in dressage so I ask her for very specific movements

      @robgriz72 Před 7 lety +1

      David, I'd say that type of stirrup is more important than the type of sole. I rode oxbows with high heeled leather soled boots for years. 9 or so years ago I switched to 6" bell stirrups with leather tread and wear Justin wedge soles. My knees and ankles sure appreciate it.
