One of my ex's was covered in tattoos. She looked goth and cool when she was in her 20's but when she hit her mid 30's and her skin was stretching a bit after having a kid the tattoos looked comical. She would wear lots of clothes to cover them up and didn't want me to mention them even though they were everywhere. Her angst and regret caused such bad self-image that she started going through a second stage of life where she wanted younger guys to be interested in her and give her validation. She finally started sleeping with the younger guys and that's when the relationship ended. Her tattoos were a massive issue to her but she self-destructed blaming everyone else.

I know that my taste will change over the course of my lifetime, I will be in social situations and personal situations as I go through life where my choice of tattoo might not be the best as I grow older and mature in my thinking.
I have had women who don't know what they want, only a tattoo and they change their mind from one design to the next. I find that worrisome and not far thinking. I encourage them, if they ARE going to get a tattoo it should have some meaning beyond the moment.

Proper design for the size or your tattoo, proper technique when applying the tattoo, how well it healed, how well you take care of it and most imoportant of all. When you got it done. Ink has evolved and gotten so much better over the years which increases longevity by a huge margin, comparing it tattoos that where made 30-40 years a go is not a fair comparison.

I don't have to have those things permanently drawn into my skin. Looking back over the last 20 years and looking forward I can honestly say that having tattoos covering my arms and other visible parts of my body would have and still make me miss out on certain opportunities in my life. I totally agree with everything this man is saying. I have nothing against people who have tattoos but no thanks for me. Hey to all the young folks. When I was 20 I had a good job making good money in the steel mills. This was 1976 and most of the guys in the mills were tough guys, vets and outliers, so most had tattoos. One night after some heavy drinking my buddies and I went to a tattoo parlor. My buddies already had tattoos so getting another was not a big deal for them. Me I was afraid of needles but this night was liquored up enough to get not one but two. The artists had me pick out what I wanted, gave me paper copies and said to put them on my bathroom mirror for a month. If I still wanted ink he was my guy... Thanks to that very smart and kind artists I do not have any tattoos. My kids heard my story but hey for them it was the 90's and they began their tattoo journey, they "feel the need for ink" and of course it shows the world how crazy and wild they are... So I think one day the "uninked" will be the outliers and will be considered the coolest of the cool and the wildest of the wild.

I tried to walk the narrow road but only on the outside. I have many dark secrets that my outward appearance hides.
Likewise many tattoo'd individuals have the vice versa looking bad but being pure and good hearted on the inside. Many good people turn to various forms of self expression and or tormenting due to their sensitivities to the brutalities of the world.
I have heard of tattoos being very therapeutic for people especially war veterans and others who have suffered intense emotional pains. God bless and let's not judge others when we know that we are no better.

Being stereotypical and judgmental for someone having a tattoo is not cool on either side but if it gets rid of creepy old guys GOOD CANT WAIT TIL I GET ONE. In those days, if a woman had a tattoo, it meant, that they had worked as a drug addicted prostitute a some point in their life. There may have been an outside chance, that they'd worked in a circus freak show, but you just didn't see woman with them. I suppose, that some woman may have had some small descrete tattoo, that only their husband or doctor knew about. Then he tells them their tat says, “Eat at Ray’s BBQ.” The color drains from their face then a look of fear comes over them. The realization hits home.

To this he stated it was the stupidest thing he had ever done. When asked about that he stated that when he was a POW (27 months) he had escaped a couple of times before getting away the third time, the main way he was caught was the tattoo as it was a positive identifier of him. That is also why the police take pictures of all your tattoos when arrested. I don’t have any tattoos.

When I was growing up (late '70s to early '90s), usually only males got tattoos, but even most of them didn't. Tattoos among young women were extremely rare, and if they did it at all, it was a small butterfly on the ankle and that was it. Now, oddly, I'd bet there are many more young women with tattoos than there are young men. It seems rather strange to me. Now, I tell anyone, young or old, male or female, that if you want to be unique and special, DON'T get a tattoo . . . because everyone else, is.

My God, I share the same exact advice to my daughter her senior year of high school. I told her had I been subject to the same fad in college, I’d have a “Bo Knows” tattoo this day. She graduated third in her HS class, an elite private school. She received an academic scholarship to a top 30 school. She works for a fortune 100 company and her fiancée graduates this spring from Georgetown Law School. I asked her back then if she thought the CEO of a company, partner at a law firm or even the wife of one of these people would have tattoos. I pledged to pay for any tattoo upon her graduation from Graduate School. We recently spoke about this conversation now 7 years later. She thanked me for being a good and firm father.

I have three daughters. All born in the mid to late seventies. When they were teenagers, middle daughter [the rebellious one] said Dad what's wrong with getting a tattoo of something pretty on my shoulder. I was adamantly against it and used to point out young women in stores and restaurants with hideous multiple tattoos all over and said how they transformed an attractiv girl into a walking billboard. Well, One morning my [rebelious] daughter sat down to breakfast and low and behold she had a little fairy tattooed on her shoulder! I was SO disappointed in her until she laughed and got up, walked over to the sink and washed off that fake tattoo and said with a grin, Dad I wouldn't do that to you because I know how you feel about tattoos on girls

Dave, I thoroughly enjoyed your video today. I work in a superstore in the state of Mich. In 23 years I have seen this Fad explode to the point that it is rare NOT to see a tattooed girl or woman or guy. As with every fad it will come to a crashing halt and they will be the people you point to, and say why? The next fad will be the use of a laser machine to make an attempt to erase them off the skin at a cost of 15 to 20 times the cost to originally put them in the skin in the first place. Keep up the great work, this video has been needed for a long time. Maybe once a year a new one would be good, so we can try to stop this madness.
