For the rest of the videos: • Basket Weaving Series ...
Master weaver John "Dog" Callister shows us how to transform willow cuttings into a basket with a simple handle. He forms the basket in the video to be able to hold a plant plot so the piece could be used to create a willow planter. Both the basket and technique can be used for a variety of basket projects, both small and large.
Dog offers classes on how to make baskets each year in November-January from the church hall in Kirk Michael, Isle of Man. For more information about joining one of his classes visit: www.willowmann.im/basket-class...

You obviously are an expert. I just wish the camera had focused on the work at the start. I was lost within the first three turns!😜
This helped me so much. What a great teacher. I made my first of many after watching this and was very happy with it.
For real I'm super greatful people actually teach real skills and I'm gonna use them and pass them down as much as I can. Thank you
This is really helpful, thank you.
thank you! and you are a good instructor!
thank you to show how to start that waving the willow basket..i want to see more..anykind of it...god bless you. .
Very informative indeed.
A very AWESOME tutorial.
Thank you so much!!!
Great video
Hi, great video! Where can I find the other parts? Thank you
I would love to se parts 2, 3 and 4 but unfortunately cannot seem to find them?
Thanks for this :) ... But parts 2,3 and 4... can you link them to this part ? I particularly need help with the upset :)
thank you
my question is how much willow of which length should I soak for this basket ?
Could this technique work for grape vine baskets as well?
I collected what i think is white willow today but i dont have a clue... anyway i was wanting to give this a go. Do i need to do it before they dry out?
Great explanation but camera work can't see what's happening well enough.
Is the willow soaked before being used to weave the basket?
A little too fast and no close up details for an absolute beginner to learn from.
Сделайте замедление.
Hey ya’ll just go try it. These things are natural and a bit unique to each person. You will find something to calm your nervous system if you keep trying.
we just cut off any bits of any type of willow and start weaving?
If it's bendy and thin enough, crack on.
Do I have to remove any bark from willow branches before starting project?
No, you can leave it on. The willow in this series has the bark on :)
I'm confused on how to sacure the ends when I've reached the size I want. How do you make sure they don't come undone??
You just tuck them in. If they’re wedged in they won’t come undone :)
@@Lovelygreens okay, thank you very much!
Learning curve for sure... u make it look easy...I dont...lol
whats name of wood you using?
Look at the video title
@@Lovelygreens i did not see 😀 sorry
No worries 😁
Would be more informative if he showed what the over-under process looked like on camera!
Sounds like a northern accent, is it Derbyshire.
John Dog probably has the most Manx accent of anyone on the Isle of Man
I'm sorry to say the same thing. About half as fast with close-up of every stage. Otherwise, for a beginner, it's meaningless.
Slight Scouse , so Isle of man accent.
I'm afraid I had to look elsewhere for a tutorial, saying
Things like 'goes in there' when the camera is not focused on what you are doing left me unsure of what you are doing
Bad demonstration. Too fast, no close ups etc
He sounds like Roy Moore. The Manx Tt radio commentator
