Is it just me or does this first horse look confused and unhappy? Lots of tail swishing and doesn’t look relaxed. The movements are also just ... off somehow. It is unsettling.

Yes, he is unhappy. Poor horse! And he is not the only one I'm afraid. If you looking at the thumbnail of this video you see the horse in the back with his chin almost on his chest. And the rider on the right pulls the rains towards himself very hard.

I mean at least the dark/black bay looked a little more relaxed. Why are these upper level horses ridden so unhappily? Seems like they are time bombs of frustration ready to go off.

@@shawndady because people completely disregard the horses well being if it means winning. Or they have been told by so many trainers that what they are doing is ok or good. I mean if you thought the horses performing look miserable just look at them in the warmup ring. It's so sad seeing what has become of dressage.

It’s just awful how the FEI continues to let this happen while putting out information to the contrary.

Yes because high end dressage horses don't get excited and extra sensitive at shows. These moder type are a different colored cat to the "old style" horses, horses now are much hotter and physically and emotionally sensitive, it takes a skilled rider to work through this energy. Most riders, myself included, would get bucked off within a few strides.

I really feel for Catherine Haddad. That warm up ring at Global has A LOT of energy and distraction, and her horse is clearly having a rough time. I've been there. It's tough to be a perfect classical rider when your horse wants to party and dump you in the sand.

I think that’s what a lot of people commenting here aren’t understanding. It’s not easy to ride well when you and your horse are both nervous in a crazy show environment, especially if you feel like they’re going to dump you. I know for a fact that at least a couple of these riders are usually quite correct.

Not one of these riders would ever be allowed to walk in my barn. Hard hands, continuous jabbing, very clearly unhappy horses. Dressage is supposed to be about refinement grace beauty and FINESSE. Not a bit of that in this arena.

You should watch the All in Is All out series that has been strongly defended by dressage riders.

Trust me shelly Francis is one of my favorite dressage riders my riding instructors twin sister Charlotte works with her and she comes down to my barn in Maine a lot and Shelly is the most kind heart sweetest person I have ever met❤

Awesome???!!! I wouldn't let any of these riders on my horse, or take lessons from them. This is completely contrary to dressage standards which are supposed to benefit the horse and make him more beautiful. These horses are miserable.

none of those riders should be allowed to wear spurs they apparently don't know how to use them. No sign of finesse or refinement just jab, jab, jab not very good understanding of correct carriage and a lot of bad hands too. no wonder the horses are unhappy.
