  • A Very rare sight to see. Baldoyle Road level crossing breaks down. The crossing causes lots of trouble with traffic gams and stuff like that. The problem with the crossing was they had no control of the crossing so basicaly there was a fault with the crossing. Eventually Irish Rail were called up to the crossing to try and repair it. Eventually the crossing was fixed and now the crossing is back to normal. But this is not a common sight its ver rare in fact its so rare that I never ever seen it act up like this.

    I haven't the faintest Idea. I'm usually a lift and bus lover, I just like level crossings because they're interesting and mechanical. They're just fun to watch.

    Yes they were, Originally there used to be older lights with a white line around the lights.

    Rather than wait for Irish rail - why not call the police, traffic management is part of their job and they should have been here to direct traffic, same as they do when traffic lights break.

    As far as I know that's a system-thing in Holland. The motors in our barrier-systems can only be reversed when another train activates the crossing again (in the past, barriers had to open fully until they could be lowered again)
    I don't know about signals over there, but it could be that crossings also control signals over there (as long as crossing isn't fully closed and locked, the signal won't clear)
    That's something we almost don't have in Holland.
    @ author: Love the accent in the video ;)

    Good video. I've actually saw this happen on 2 or 3 occasions on the line between Athlone & Roscommon @ Hudson Bay & Ballymurray crossings. I'd to ring the Gardai to deal with the Hudson Bay 1 as I lived beside it and the alarm was doing me head in and also coz cars were refusing to cross the line so the Garda was on 'point duty' @ the crossing until Irish Rail could figure out what was wrong. At Ballymurray I was caught in the traffic and everyone was just crawling through the crossing.

    In Orange County, Calif., where I live, when the gates are stuck down, the police will show up and help direct traffic to help drivers turn around and go back the way they came.
    Once the problem has been reported to the railway company, the dispatcher issues orders by 2-way radio to all approaching trains and advises all trains to observe the rules pertaining to out-of-order level crossings. This is known as Rule 6.32.2 in the U.S. General Code of Operating rules. The train must approach the crossing at restricted speed, and upon arrival at the crossing a member of the crew must get off the train and flag it across the crossing by hand. The engineer also sounds the horn with the "approaching crossing code" of two long blasts, a short blast, and a long blast, even if it is a Quiet Zone crossing.
    This kind of malfunction can be caused by faulty sensors in the track or a fault in the sensors that detect the gates are fully raised up. The gates will drop then raise up again to try to make contact with the detector sensors and shut off the alarms and lights.

    Thanks Man im glad you enjoyed it, what do you think was the problem was with the crossing?

  • @FreedomtowerStudios
    @FreedomtowerStudios Před 11 lety +1

    Your welcome. Crossings in the U.S are controlled by the relay case and wires attached to the track. When a train locomotive runs over the wire it sends a electric current to the relay case. When the relay case picks up th current, it judges the speed of the train and the distance the train is from the crossing. After this, the current goes to the crossing signals and activates them. When a train clears the crossing, the process is repeated and shuts off the signals. The relay case is a compter.

  • @irishrailtrains
    @irishrailtrains  Před 11 lety +4

    Thanks. I thought the crossings in the U.S were controled by something in the station. But here in Ireland I think most of the crossings are controled by the main stations on the main lines. For the Northern Line, Howth Branch and Rosslare main line I presume Connolly Station controls all the the crossings on those lines I just said. And Id say for the rest of the lines in Ireland the crossings are possibly controled by Heuston Station and Cork (Kent) station.

  • @kdmq
    @kdmq Před 8 lety +1

    Level crossings are triggered by electric current. So if a conductive object is left laying on the tracks, the nearest 2 or 3 crossings will be affected.
