I just came across your channel and so glad I did. I love the format of your reviews with your 7 questions. Great job!
This is finally the format of video I want a little overview and a review. Perfect. YES! Subbed.
Another great review! You always cover a lot of different topics and questions to help us really understand what the game is like without spoiling too much! :)
Stop making good Reviews 🤣 my Wallet is allready crying 🤣👌
I love Scythe but I agree, it’s a simple game in disguise. Great video, keep making content Janises!
I really like your review format, is very unique and it's easier to understand your opinions when they are reduced to a couple of Words in the whiteboard
I played Scythe on App and didn't like it at all, felt Boring, but im Still considering to get it and play with newer gamers, maybe in person is more interesting
Best format for reviewing a board game
Thanks Gary! :)
Really enjoy your videos. Short and right to the point. Good stuff
Eldritch Horror with mechs? That's some rather odd expectations to bring into Scythe. I'm really glad you gave Fenris a go. It's a truly incredible expansion.
Expectation fits the person, that being - odd ;)
There are some fantasy elements here and there such as their version of red riding hood, But I never got an Eldritch card once in Scythe. And this is coming from someone who tried the digital board game version of Call of Cthulhu. Mechs and Eldritch horror do come together as humanity tries to one-up the elder gods that they cannot understand using the only thing humans understands, computers and machines, only for elder gods to demonstrate why they are gods
Found you pretty late. But love the review format. I use this as a gateway game for people that have ventured a little bit into heavier games but aren’t ready for the really heavy stuff. It does a great job at introducing engine building, lots of moving pieces, and complex strategy in an easily digestible format, breaking each play into a series of small, easily understandable decisions. I generally move people from basic games to Wingspan (same publisher, different designer) to Scythe.
Love your content guys, you make an amazing job!
Thanks so much!
This is my new favourite board game channel!
Makes us so happy to hear that :))
i will buy this one for my first time heavy games
Love the review format of the back and forth discussion. Keep it up
Best alternative might be Tapestry.
We are yet to try it.
No fighting is a problem which you only have as a beginner. Since most of the factions can have 2 Stars from fighting in a 5 player game, we have up to 8 fights per game. My only problem with the game is that it's unbalanced. Some combos are laughable bettet than others.
Agreed. The unbalance shows up when you try more and more games. There are few player & faction mat combos that you should avoid for it to be more fair.
Mmm now I feel like getting the expansion to see what I am missing... 😅
@BoardGameHangover what is your opinion of Eclipse second dawn for the galaxy? just to see how closely our tastes align ;)
Jānis G. here: I really like that game and so did the first one. I mean it has a ton of conflict compared to Scythe ;)
Alright, tastes aligned. ;)
Janis G. is Left or Right Janis? :D
So, if I've undrestood you two well, this game is fantastic (but a bit expensive) disappiontment? 🤣
Pretty much ;)
Is it worth the buy still?
I would not call this a simple game, BGG: Weight: 3.42 / 5 There is a lot to it to learn and start playing with new players, especially with non gamers.
It is definitely not for Sunday players I would say ;D
Both expansions (Rise of Fenris and Invaders from afar) are great and must have if you like Scythe base game. But Wind Gambit expansion is a no for me, it is just not good at all :)
Ha ha. Not for Sunday players for sure. But it is very simple in terms of your actions. Just simply choose one of the four actions and do what you can from them. We find that gamers overall do find it on the lighter end for heavy games although it looks heavier
I'd say the high complexity rating is because people used to lighter games gave it a try, so it's very complex for them, but 0.58 from Anachrony is not right
Warcraft 3? How? What? Kek? I've played that game hundreds of hours and I cannot related that in any way to Scythe.. WC3 was all about your apm, micro, harass and conflict all the time. I got none of that in this board game.
Though to be fair I've played Scythe only once :D it was enough. I rated it 8/10 and got no interested in playing it ever again.
Yeah, I don't think it's the same, it just has a lot of references to it that I really enjoyed. Mostly I played Warcraft III with my friends, so there always were discussions of who's attacking who, negotiations, and the feeling that war is lurking around. Just in Scythe it actually (almost) never happens while in W3 it goes down all the time. :D And setup alone... starting on a map with limited resources, with special encounters laying around that help you progress faster, having a special character or a hero, there's a huge point of interest in the middle... I just loved this nostalgic feeling alone and think gamers could enjoy it as well... But overall obviously, it's not the same /JT
scythe is a big massive amazing overproduced disappointment. Don't buy this game. Not fun
What a terrible explanation and vague review.
We were still learning the ropes at that point. Try out any of our newer reviews like Sleeping Gods ;) You'll be pleasently suprised! czcams.com/video/eoaQu0-j-e4/video.html
If u think "get samey" is a bad thing in a strategy game, your simply not a strategy gamer.
