God Bless Seth for all his hard work in a space not many would ever go into!
Dont use the plastic on your dryer vent. Lint will stick to the inside much quicker than metal pipe. Exhaust fan is perfectly fine.
It saddens me that you would even feel the need to apologize for sponsorships… “A workmen is worthy of his hire“. I am not offended, nor am I put off at all by your sponsorships. In fact, I hope you get many more and I hope they pay very well because you guys deserve it. You work hard and you bring very wholesome to the table. Thank you for all you do and God bless.
I agree, and another added benefit would be that they would be able to do more projects to make more awesome videos. It's a win/win to me 👍
Thank you!
I might have cut that extra foam off differently. I always ensure to cut away from the body, and those blades should be segmented and designed to break off as the tip becomes dull. If you're bending that blade, it could easily snap at the segment. This is mostly for those watching this video as a precaution.
I used to watch The Beverly Hillbillies with my grandparents when I was a little kid.
Dryer vents do have a limit on distance it will push air. Lint will plug it up if it’s too far. If there was a way to install a lint trap it’s worth it. 😊
I used to use a electric knife to cut off the extra foam insulation on stuff. 🙏🕊️🌹🥀🌼🌻☕💜❤️
Paint tip… when using a clear coat don’t shake the can, stir it. Keeps air bubbles from forming. Seth is a stud.
Don’t forget that water is in your air flow from the dryer. 😊
Poor Seth. I was feeling claustrophobic just seeing him in that tight space.
Having dealt with problems using flexible vent tubing, your project was bound to have issues (length of run, sags, etc)....as you found out. Using the solid pipe for venting will allow you to also clean out the pipe from moisture and dust collection (when mixed builds up). "Clean outs" helps keep your bathroom smelling better and decrease mildew and other contaminants from building up over time in the pipe. Nice job on the fix.
Off gassing of your spray foam is something the bee won't like. I hope you left these sit outside for a long time, if that even helps. Bees don't like fumes!
Swimming pools...movie stars - Beverly Hillbillies - back in the good ole days. Good thing Seth doesn't have claustrophobia! Never dreamed he could fit in that hole. Best of luck with your next bee colony.
Not sure why the drama in the title of this video. You guys have always worked well together. I don’t remember ever seeing even a hint of friction. If there is then maybe it’s ok to show it and how you worked it out. ❤❤❤
note bathroom vent is still in a cold space potential freezing condensation over time could eventually be coming a restriction plugging up with ice
ok with a dryer vent you them straight as can be and short to the outside and hope there is no temp change from hot to cold because you will a lot of water in line
your drier vent to long
remember there will be condensation in vent pipe
and should be on grade to the outside
can't have bunch rise and falls trapping water in the basement/ crawl space
That’s because you are awesome people very awesome people. I look forward to seeing your journey a lot all the way from St. George, Utah.
Beverly Hillbillies, Jed Clampett...lol 😂😅 Love the bee "mansion", happy the spray foam filled the bill. 😊 Love ya'll ❤️ Snow? In May? Seriously...😮😅
Seth, you are a superstar!
God bless you Martin & Julie! Of course we are patient and we love you! Always encouraged seeing you and your family as you build your dream!
Just watched your video and the story you told was the words to the song played at the beginning to a tv show called the beverly hillbillies
That exterior vent pipe should be insulated to help prevent freezing.
Awesome job on the bathroom fan exhaust pipe. The bee boxes look very cool as well. I have never seen those type before. I hope they work for you.
I remember those days when I would go into those hard to get to places for my dad. Seth is a very handy young man. Great job mom and dad for your great example in showing your children how be good people.
I would really watch the opening on those bee hives in the winter.😊
well welcome to springtime in Rookie Mountains where it can rain or snow at any time the weather wants because we live in a rain forest
that dryer vent is likely to condense water in the pipe under the house
that's what i was thinking, esp in the very cool basement, and for that long of a run
Should be some cozy bees this winter. Still getting light snow. We have been having storms around here in Iowa. More for tonight, pray no bad weather. Beverly Hillbillies. I can go as far as it was sponsored by Winston. Winston taste good like a cigarette should. I don't promote smoking. We'll pray the vent system works great. Thanks for sharing.
Water heaters use to be located in garages but no longer due to fuel+ignition source =explosion. I installed a heater that pulls air from outside and has a sealed burner. You could mount your heater up high since gas fumes build up from the ground up which gives you time to vent the fumes out. DO NOT USE HEATER WITHOUT BEING PRESENT. just watching out for all of you.❤
Go total electric. Exploding houses from gas lines are a thing. Not safe.
wow a blast from the past when i heard your story i remember watching it as a kid hope the bees are happy and safe in there new home glad you finally got the ducting in another great video
Just wondering if you guys considered insulating the exhaust pipe. This would prevent the moisture condensing.
Make sure you don’t block air circulation in the bee castle as they need fresh air even in winter.
It's a good thing Seth has never heard of claustrophobia! 😅 He just went in there and did what he had to do like champ! Love the Beverly Hillbilly reference.
My ribs hurt just watching Seth snake through that soffit. Smart to use the OSB. Great repair Team Johnson!!
Marty this one was not so bad. Keep it up, I think, more smaller projects makes it feel like life is moving faster for us viewers and that my man is exciting to us. LOL
Way to go Seth! Nice job! You were the perfect solution to handle that job for sure! Awesome 👍💖💪
Wood boxes over the bees or build a little lean-to to house them so there foam will not mold and turn black
O brother, where art thou. Great movie
Thank you for a perfectly long and interesting episode!
You know the story of the Beverly Hillbillies 😅. I like the stackable washer and dryer, but when something goes wrong with the washer with water in it is no fun.
You guys have been busy! Great job.
Good job Seth!!
I bet at least half of the listeners have no idea where that story was from... and I hope it spawns a whole lotta people checking that source out. Very wholesome and entertaining content compared to the garbage nowadays
The Clampetts!
@@bobcole3852 Thr Beverly Hillbillies
If you wrap that pipe in insulation, to stop the steam from condensing, there would be practically no water in the pipe.
Over the years I have decided that Speed Queen washers and dryers are the best. They have gas dryers too. They will repair and they keep all parts in stock. 😊
O Brother Where Art Thou
I remember watching a video with a bee expert and he stated that the main reason bees die off and its probably the reason we have a purported honey bee "crisis" in North America is that bee keepers are using cultured bees which did not evolve to survive in the regions that the colonies are being sent to. That obtaining a colony from the wild locally and then allowing that colony to grow while under the protection of beekeepers and therefore spawn other colonies in the wild, since the source colonies are now protected from predators, would solve most of that purported crisis. I don't know how true it is.
Not true. Bees are not native to north America, so technically it is impossible to find bees evolved in the environment.
One of the number one reasons bees are dieing off in America is the over use of pesticides and herbicides to increase food production and profits for corporate farms.
@@David-xg8lg there are over 3000 native bees species to north America. And fossilized honey bees have been found in North America that are over 10 million years old Its true that what we currently call honey bees are of the European varieties. However they have escaped to and adapted to the wild. What he was saying is, instead of getting farmed bees which are not adapted locally, find an adopt a local honey bee colony from your area.
Dude! you proposed in my country, Argentina! That´s oddly cool! Hope you liked it down here...
next time use duct tape and pole a few holes in it and fill in those.... it will make a perfect flat foam filling.
Speaking of story time, one of the other homesteaders I watch at Red Poppy Ranch tells stories of his younger years as a voice-over when doing a project. You may want to watch a few of his videos and incorporate the same thing. Of the dozen or so CZcamsrs I watch, he is the only one who does it.
Venting up out of roof
There goes Marty again with "it's a little chilly out here." Marty, it is snowing and raining, that makes it straight up COLD!!! I'm from Florida so "chilly" starts at 67F and it becomes cold at 59F...I guess I need to fly up to Northern Idaho and find out what he means by chilly.
When you are sponsored, other people are going to buy the product, especially when you show how to do it!! Also, people might not even think to do it the way you do.
Tell Seth he is a five star young man 😅
Good job
The bears are going to love those styrofoam bee hives.
I love your channel and what you guys do. It’s a joy to watch. Be careful with those razor blades and please don’t ever cut towards your face or neck. I’m an accident prone so I know how to get cut. Stay safe and Godspeed.
Just sitting here thinking....I hope the foam will not be toxic to the bees????
If you're in the same neck of the woods as Ambition Strikes then the snow is a given as they had snow and rain and sun on their latest video
I can almost hear the banjo in the background of your story...LOL Funny how all those show tunes jingle in our heads.
Is there any concern with sealing the bees in so tightly that they can't breathe?
43:30
Great Job Seth 👍
Enjoyed the video. Thanks for sharing
Man, that's gotta be painful to climb in there!
There's no way I would send my son in there - how was he going to get out in a hurry in the event of an emergency (bite, coughing fit, breathing problem, etc)?
swimmin’ pools…movie stars
Hate being negative but PVC for a vent? Static electricity has its own problems. Aluminum for vents is the way to go. 😏
Hi from Australia. Re glue you could use polyurethane glue.
It's not because the pressure is higher. It's because Propane has a higher energy content for the same volume. The smaller orifice adjusts the flow in RTU/second, which is the same as Natural gas. Good luck! I thoroughly enjoy your videos and look forward to them each week.
While the Propane system operates at a true 1/2 lb or 14” WC, natural gas on the other hand actually operates at ¼” lb or 7” WC.
@@MartinJohnsonOffGridLiving An orifice changes the flow rate, not the pressure.
Watts is trying to make sure you do it right!😆
I love the Beverly Hillbillies ❤️🤣
I thought that was Seth's new room 😂
use a bread knife it does the same job to cut the foam
the pu foam should not have been used if there was another layer on top. Air is the best insulator. Better than the foam.
The Beverly Hillbillies ❤❤😂😂
what is it nice when you can buy what you want
Better do laundry every day because those upright washing machines have very small wash tubs unless they are front loading
I love this little wash machine! 😊We’ve been using it in the apartment for about 2 years now. I definitely don’t do laundry everyday though. Maybe we’re unusual. 🤷🏼♀️
Will those lightweight bee boxes get blown down /away in a storm?
Where did you get that sharp knife?
I would be like: GET ME OUT OF HERE!!!!
Maybe we’ll see you in Anchorage AK?
I think you will regret the expansion foam as glue time will tell or the sun will and moisture
Watch that them knife blades don’t snap off when your bending it. As when they snap they go with a pingggggg. 😊😊😊😊😊
Thanks! We ended up using our kitchen knives. 😊
WD40 to clean great stuff foam straw and valve!
Kinda concerned about off gassing of the insulating material, Bees can bee picky.
Have you ever heard of Vino Farms? We’re modeling our design off of his.
Nice in the winter but darned hot in the summer. I agree bees may fly by for a year or more due to chemical use (foam and polyurethane). I hope they aren't disappointed.
@@gkkes maybe the insulation keeps the warmth out during the summer....
Hi Marty and Jules, we have a bout 1700 different native bees in Australia and there’s only a few that will bite you. They do not sting. I have a nest at my house and they’re very fascinating to watch. They have a morgue in the hive and when the morgue is full of dead bees, the Queen sends all the bees out of the hive and those trade them out and little birds in Australia called Renz They just love them and they come around and eat them was lovely to watch native animals. Anyway keep up the good work enjoy your videos except when you keep mentioning Jules as a man, she’s a woman, not a man
Hahahaha Maybe it is an Australian thing. Here is America I’m not calling here a man. It is just an expression with no reference to gender. She sure is a woman.
I grow up outside Akron dad 2 hives we never did any thing for winter I know you might me little more up north but i don't it's at much
$50 a piece is outrageous! Gouging us and allowed to!
Don’t buy them if you think th price is to high
Such a foreign thought to drink tap water. I might need to visit Idaho
❤❤❤❤❤❤
There once was a man from Nantucket…. lol 😆 that’s another story… Can you tell that one next time we have story time…?
Nice! 😊
I can, but it wouldn't survive YT
@@robertbates5537 HaHa 😆 You’re Right lol
I’m so shocked that Seth fit through that hole 😱
Yalls next project should be a biodigester to make your own natural gas since y’all do have a greenhouse now…then you can convert it back to natural and run it for free
ok guys that is not phone and cat 5 cable or cable jack for tablet to fix it or trouble for tech who work on it
You always cut away from yourself not tword yourself lol
Ahh, that's the sissies way, lol!
It must not be May when you did this. Snow ❄❄❄?
Martin, we understand the YT challenge to make money.
You could have done a comparison test with before and after water. But I believe it tastes better now.
And you are going to need help moving that washer dryer. Propane has a higher gas heating value.....not pressure. So 1cubic foot of propane is ~much hotter than 1 cubic foot of natural gas
I doubt very much your dryer vent is fixed (sorry) It should of been much shorter & well insulated......... This saga will continue as soon as next winter sets in & the moisture in the pipe will freeze again....Your only hope is if you run the motor & it keeps a build-up from freezing (again) but I think as soon as
enjoy the video. Maybe you should have broken that into 2 videos. It was a little long for me.
Swimming pools... movie stars... btw don't shake shellac, not sure about urethane
The Beverly Hillbillies! 😊
@@juliejohnson9531 Loved Green Acres and Petticoat Junction also.
If you have hard water then you need a whole house softener system or is going to quickly cause problems with your demand water heater. Dryer vents shouldn't be no longer than 35 ft subtracting 5 ft per elbow. That aluminum flex pipe is one of the worst inventions ever.
With all the concerns of microplastics in our food stream is that a issue with these hives?
