  • I know these social signs are super popular for many laser users so I wanted to give some tips for designing them in Illustrator. The blog also has a free file for the base shapes and a "slot checker" so you can determine how to adjust the slots for your material thickness.

    Hi! I just got a Glowforge last week and just found your channel and subscribed. I’ve been watching lots of videos from different channels on Glowforge tips and tricks and ideas and I have to say, sometimes I can’t get through people’s videos because they speak too loud or constantly say “um” or “literally” or “basically” in every sentence. You, however, have a wonderful speaking voice…very pleasant.. and I love that you’re not constantly using “um” and those annoying filler words in every sentence.. so thank you very much! Off to watch some more of your videos!

    Thank you SO much for this video and files! I am having some issues with getting QR codes to work from Venmo - any tips? It is a JPEG file, bc if you do a link pasted to the Code generator it just takes you to their generic website, and not the intended individual account... but every time I do the Image trace - expand in Illustrator, it just makes a terrible copy and never works.... Any help would be great!! Thank you!!

    • @PantheraPress
      @PantheraPress  Před 2 lety

      Are you playing around with the settings in your image trace? I can almost aways get something passable, but QR codes are complex and I could understand why it might not. Also, do you really need it vectorized? You can engrave a Jpeg just fine.

    Hi there, I am hoping you can help, I am new to Illustrator and the Glowforge and I am trying to create/cut simple lines for name tags and table signs but my GF seems to see the file lines and cuts over the area twice. When I zoom in, to me it seems there is just one line and I have made it very thin...do you have any suggestions that might help please? I absolutely love and appreciate your videos, thank you so much! :)

      Check your appearance panel (you can Google or youtube this). Sometimes you have a layered appearance where it has two stroke colors.

      For the written blogs I typically link to the people I buy from (none are sponsored), but I like Cerulean Tides Acrylic Supplies, Smokey Hills, and Johnsons Plastics Plus. Those are my primary sources but I also buy from Custom Made Better and a few other places.

    • @PantheraPress

      I have unfortunately never used Affinity. However, the processes used here are pretty common to all graphic design programs (lots of just shape building), so I would expect so.

    I've tried several to engrave my qr code, but when I try to test the engraved version my phone doesn't even recognize it. When I try the same qr from my computer screen, it works instantly. Do you have any tips on making the QR Code readable with a smartphone?

      @@kg5488 It's typically an issue of contrast - the code needs to stand out from the background. I've done white on black, black on white, gradients etc and they have always worked. Even on walnut wood I've had them read. Unless I can see yours I cannot tell exactly what's going on with it.

      @@janenericgonzalez7376 You cannot avoid that - Glowforge will automatically group items that are inside other items. You can right click and then ungroup them in the interface though to access and adjust the elements individually (delete, move, scale etc.)

      Oh and the files are in PDF format, so they do look just like an image but they are editable vectors which would open in Adobe Illustrator or similar. Just Save As or download the PDF and you should be able to edit it your design software or upload directly to the Glowforge interface.
