Thanks for this video. Can you tell me what the name of the metallic film is that you said you can score and use instead of paint fill. I appreciate it!
Thank you SO much! This was immensely useful. I'm currently experimenting with acrylic for several different purposes related to the renovation of my house (e.g. for double-glazing all my windows, for panelling some walls, etc), and the question of "which glue will work???" has been a major question. Your video - done in exactly the same precise, thorough and documented way in which I would do my own experiments - is incredibly useful (and a pleasure to watch). Thank you!
I just don't know How to thank you that is even my first thank you on youtube and that for sure was really helpful
This such a great test video. Really helped me out a ton!
Bravo! Just want I needed :)
I think this is the only tutorial on the entire youtube which shows the process. thanks!
Omg this video is golden!! Thank you!! Looks like I need weld on 4. You saved me so much $$!
You can click on view-outline to see any straggler nodes or islands. Quick way of seeing rouge marks
i like your voice, i can listen to your tutorial for hours, thanks for the knowledge!!!
Excellent explanation! Thank you!
So helpful!!! Thank you
Do you cut your paper down to size? I cannot find heavy weighted paper already in the sizes I need.
Sort of. I usually buy 8.5x11" and cut it down from there. Most of the time I take it to a print shop and have them cut it down and pay a nominal feel for it - I don't have a super fancy cutter and their huge ones do a better cleaner job. I just give them a diagram or clear instructions on what sizes I want.
Excellent explanation ...... when I was working, we never had female printers. I'm so happy that it's not just a male trade now.
Great video, but please feed your cats next time :D
If only that helped lol. They just scream because they're siamese
How would you go about connecting all art to letters? I have a logo in the middle with letters on a circular path around the logo.
I'd expand the words and then just treat them like any other part of the art. Type > Create Outlines (Without seeing what you're talking about I can only really guess)
Excellent tutorial! When you're cleaning up lines I find if you jump into outline mode it's much easier to spot those random lines that pathfinder loves to create.
100% - I'm going to have to remember to mention that in my next video. I plan to do one on cleaning up files and troubleshooting open nodes
What is the gold that you use at the end? Where can it be purchased
I had the same question
I studied printmaking 20 years ago in coillege. this reminds me of a reduction print, only in a reduction print if my memory serves correctly, basically leaves you with barely nothing at the end. This is sort of the digital version of it, only less messy, where you're not dealing with print making ink. I do miss the snapping sound of the brayer and the velvety look of the ink that let you know there was enough ink on the brayer to apply to your plate.
Thank you so much for this video! I watched it back when you originally posted, but I didn’t have a laser cutter then. I couldn’t wrap my mind around it at the time. It makes much more sense to me now that I can actually apply the lesson you taught in real life. 🤦🏽♀️😂❤️
Link
a quicker way to center all the items to check if they look right after prepping for the laser cutting you can select all the parts and go into your transform tool and choose center and center and get them all aligned in 2 quick moves
Very Impressive!
I actually didn't mind the cats...
? I was wondering if you could build or create a kit with a more up right, mounted stand with 4 round, 1 inch deep, clear, plastic or glass canisters with items I choose to put in them..screw tops….Dry, No Oil….!….and a light mounted under where the canister will sit to brighten scope view….I saw one of these when I was a youngster and never forgot how beautiful it was….
I haven't tried one like that but I think I know what you're talking about! I've thought about it but haven't had a tone of time. Maybe in the future and if I do I'll send the video your way.
Do you have a template for the 1/16 acrylic with the slot checker for base or how do I make one for the thinner acrylic bc I have the aura and use the eco thin acrylic.
Can you do this with image files also? I need some help, QUICK!
Great video, here is a tip for you when searching for orphan nodes, change the view mode to OUTLINE, and then when you select all it is easier to see the individual nodes or small gaps in the design.
Hi there! Did you find websites that would help with mountain ranges? Thanks!
I use CMD Y to switch to outline view to find the little stray points. You can also use shift M and use shape builder to clear out the stray points inside an existing shape.
bellisimo video. muchas gracias
Hi, Even i have installed Deepnest sofware, but the final output changes the sizes, smaller than the actual sizes, can you pls guide.
I EXPERIENCED THE SAME SITUATION TOO, I MULTIPLYED IT BY 1.35 AND THE Aspect Ratio BUT BUT SATISFIED.
Thanks a lot it worked with 1:38@@bilalkaraboga8417
I had so great hopes for this software, but honestly im disappointed from the outcome result. I've tried nesting with relatively simple shapes and also complex ones - in both case scenario i was able to optimize the material and cutting time 2x better, for just a little more time than deepnest itself. Tried all possible settings in different logical combinations as well - did not get any significant better results. I've noticed that the program doesn't recognize repeating shapes very well - it just drops them randomly on the sheet instead using their edges to join them. Overall for me, it didn't save cutting time or material at all.
your a lousey teacher
This was so helpful, thank you! I
I hope your making enough money with your art, else giving away all your secrets just undermines what you are doing. People will leech out as much as they can from you to be your competition.
this is sort of the same way of making color separations for screen printing. its not a secret as this technique has been around for ages. this is a great tutorial for beginners as its not too techy. The important thing to note is you need to master the pen tool if you're not using a tablet. (I speak from the experience of an elder aging millenial graphic designer--I learned corel and then illlustrator in middle school or freshmean year of high school and I'm 42 years old)
So helpful! Thank you!
Perfect work I just want yo ask if you do a custom design?

I would be interested in how to do the city name layer.
I would be interested in how you get the city name layer of this project.
I'll try and add some details to the blog when I have time, but the basics are I just made the rectangle frame, then I typed up the text. After setting the text to outlines, I created and offset using Object > Path > Offset Path (this makes a bigger shape around the text). Finally I fused that bigger shape to the frame using the Pathfinder panel (as shown in many of my tutorials). This created the offset border for the text, when I just engraved as normal.
I tried to use Deepnest, but it is so slow that after a few minutes still nothing appear. I don't know if it's because my SVG file is too complex or that there is some bugs in the program.
This exactly I've been searching for couple of hours.
We can hear your cat meowing in the background😅
Yep. Can't control a siamese cat lol and I wasn't going just re-record the whole thing for his sake.
It's pronounced cricket like the insect (i think)
Yes I know, I just cannot get myself to accept that and always end up saying Cry-Cut. I usually preface that I'm saying it wrong, but I just cant accept the spelling haha
video hay good
