  • Alex Albon has recommitted an F1 team that hasn't scored a point this year. Here's why...

    He is still affected by what happened to him in 2020 when Red Bull dropped him. The chances of returning to F1 after a 1 year gap are pretty rare. He was lucky to get the opportunity with Williams. Seat security is his number one priority rn, not necessarily performance.

      @@Tzomthekliafafanboy this is F1 and its usual silly season. "Being linked to" means absolutely nothing other than that, usually, "some" at one point have uttered some option for a driver at a team and the media start running with it.
      To my knowledge nobody at Mercedes has confirmed anything and it would surprise me if there was an actual offer. Because I am 100% sure he'd have taken it.

      @Tzomthekliafafanboy Pƙed 27 dny

      @MatthiasDeScheerder yes, but why would he extend with Williams if he is one of the options for Mercedes? If you think about it, Sainz, Albon and Bottas are the only good options for Mercedes, and i think Albon was the most realistic one. He basically decided that he should stay at a backmarker team for multiple years instead of looking at options before extending

    Given I feel like, of the grid, Albon’s personality is most like mine, I think there’s a simple answer: job security.
    Continue to live a jet-set lifestyle, continue to travel the world doing one of the most amazing things on the planet, continue to earn good money, continue to be known all around the world
 and continue to have options down the line. This just makes sense.

And with that, he could become even more legendary as a designer by being the guy who helped engineer Williams back to the front - alongside Vowles. It’s very romantic, yes, but in many ways it makes more sense than Aston Martin or McLaren.
      Here’s why it’s less practical though. If a team signed Newey, they would need the money and the facilities to support his work, otherwise he’d be working below his potential. In that scenario, it would depend on whether he saw that as a viable challenge or not.

    I have followed this sport for 30 years, any team on the grid has the opportunity to turn it round during a rules change. Not only that but Williams are already all in on the 2026 rules....
    I dont see an issue in gambling on the long term with a team like Williams, they finally have some cash and drive

    I agree that his best interest lies in the long term game. Let’s remember he is helping build Williams up and bring them back towards the front runners, all while developing his impressive driver profile so that he can be a better investment for other teams later on in his career.

      If we’re calling on the afterlife why not just ask Senna and Mansell to rise up too. Williams would still be on the bottom. I think F1 likes it that way. The plucky sad sack always appeals to some.
