This show was always good for a good laugh.
I'd like to put it this way: that the way to attain immortality is through the consumption of certain being of extraterrestrial in origin - that other galactic civilizations already wanted their share but the owners of such life-giving food chose the human race above all else.. Thus the reason why we we've been placed on a favorable solar system with single star, enshrouded by lots of space protection ("edge of Pluto" belt, Van Allen radiation belt, being put into a goldilocks zone, etc.) so we would be hard to find.

He’s not energized by the prayers. The traditional mass (which Francis is trying to ban despite canon law forbidding that) is itself a prayer. Most of it is about the priest making himself holy enough to approach the altar and then holy enough to touch the host (the bread). Even then, ultimately only his thumb and index finger on each hand are blessed enough to touch it.
