My husband and I have been married for 52-1/2 years. We started at 17 and 19. We like to say we've pulled that cart called life side by side mostly in step. It wasn't always beautiful, but working together, we have always been able to get 'er done. Congratulations on making wonderful memories that you'll look back on for many, many years to come!
Cody ,next time you want to cut a mortise , outline your mortise joint and use a drill with a speedbor bit to remove bulk of material. Then follow up with chisel to clean up and square the edges
Also, I'd suggest using a dowel to join the two pieces. Nails rust and leave marks. Dowel pins don't.
I was gonna suggest a Forstner bit but same idea. Saves you a lot of work.
I can't say enough what an inspiration y'all are. I can only hope my kids turn out with the intelligence and work ethic y'all have. Thank you so much for sharing your life with us
So True and I share your channel to all my friends here in Australia to hopefully inspire younger generation here Australia that anything can be achieved
Responsible, smart, hard working , no whining young people. Love it,
A tear comes to my eyes every time I see the two of you working together. You are such a wonderful wife to that young man and I know that he is in love with you.
One of my favorite sections of your videos is your cooking section. It shows the reality of daily life. You use simple recipes modified to suit your needs. While some might comment on nutritional imbalance or too much of this or that I have learned that meal preparation is often influenced by resource availability and the situation. This is why I enjoy watching you. You give me ideas for me to emulate. Good luck with your building and as Julia Child used to say "Bon Appetit".
"That's what she said"...Didn't expect that Summer, but had to laugh though. Keeping it real. Good job you two.
Cody & Summer you 2 are cranking out some amazing work together as I honestly did not think just the 2 of you could complete this task without assistance, and I was wrong as your ingenuity was old school. Thanks for allowing us all to watch your creativity & Happy Holidays too you both and fur babies. Crank up the woodstove as unfortunately COLD air is coming your way, bundle up, keep those ducks warm.
I can see Summer likes working outside. I’m a lady and I love to work outside😀Cody are handyman, he can do everything 👏👏You 2 are fantastic 😻😻
When Pink Floyd came to WA, Aus, my daughter was one of the kids in the wall. Everyone that helped him got a personally signed photo, a round of pizzas with him and got to spend time with him. It was pretty cool
My soil here in Tasmania was red clay. You know how I turned it into good brown soil. 5 years of wood chipping the ground. The wood chips work to change the Biom of the dirt and when it rains turns the rain into compost tea. You can also make compost tea from food scraps. Put them in a bucket of water and leave for a week then pour on your garden. Free organic fertiliser. You are hard working young people and its great to see your journey building your own home. God bless you.
In Alaska, we contemplating constructing a shed and greenhouse using “rammed earth” materials. I had soil tests performed and found that our aggregate would have provided the right blend to be self-supportive.
However, the building process was so labor-intensive, we decided to apply standard construction methods.
Very interesting Andrew! I would love to see more of the future build and process!
You guys are great. Next time you want to do a mortise joint take your spade bit and drill out the width of your mortise drill out several holes along the length of your mortise then you just use the chisel to cut the excess that the spade bit doesn’t get out and you can square it up pretty easy with that chisel really good job with the chisel but it takes a long time doing it that way. The very best Luck with all your projects.
Great job putting the post in Cody and Summer
These are the times when you make memories of accomplishments and having a good time it's a learning process at cutting of the mortise but then again everyone doesn't start off as experts still the goal was achieved you always come up with an amazing meal Summer it won't be long and Cody will definitely start putting on some pounds enjoy the holiday season guys be careful and stay safe my friends God love ya both
Another great video ya'll!! For the first time with wood chisel you both did great job the entrance looks fantastic. So proud of ya'll havin your homestead and bein able to work together to have a beautiful home that ya'll created not many young folks do that anymore. When ya'll are married 50 years like my Bride and I you'll have stories to tell and memories to enjoy. Thanks for sharing be safe have fun enjoy ya'lls time together and homestead
You both are such hard workers as are my kids. There is hope for this world and you two are showing it every week. This old man just loves it!
Yes, you two can cherish the memories you are making now with the things you are building. Your smiles show you are proud of what you are doing with your lives. Keep up the good work and Merry Christmas to you both.
you did it! You're doing ALL of it! It's amazing to watch! I don't see three plain pieces of wood. I see craftsmanship and hard work.!
Hey you guys how you guys doing hope you guys are happy with each other and everything what you guys got to do for each other and make sure you love each other and take care of each other you know just make sure one thing at a time you guys make sure nobody gets hurt cuz you're the only two you got left you know there's probably I don't know God it only knows how to take care of you guys just pray everyday and take care of you guys God bless you
Cody, you did a fine job chiseling out the mortises. A hint for next time, though, is to use a drill and large bore bit to get the bulk of the material out, then use your chisel to neaten up the edges and bottom. It’ll go a bit faster that way.
You beat me to it. 😁
you are using that chisel 100% correct. 2 hints,,,keep it razor sharp and NEVER EVER PUT YOUR HAND IN FRONT OF THE CHISEL.good work. well done
I am always amazed at how well you execute the different skills you have acquired along the way.
Be so proud...it's a beautiful story you'll share with your children someday.
Right sized spade bit in a drill would hog out most of that wood and leave you with little to carve. Saves a lot of time...🤷♂ Love the projects and the progress. Keep it up guys 💪😎
Good tip! I think he mostly wanted to challenge himself buy doing it all by hand without power tools!
I love how each time y’all brought a beam up y’all used a different method.
It’s amazing I have Ecoflow for the Hurricane season plus a small generator!!!
That was a very well implemented install of that top post. Well done guys - now you need to make a big set of wooden gates to compliment it....... then you will be master carpenters too 👍👷♂👷♀🇫🇷 Bon Noël from Julie & Ian
Thanks guys! A wooden gate is a great idea!
Now that you got the entrance, what are you gonna name the place? A property like this needs a name.
my grandfather showed me how to use a brace & bit back in the 50's to clear out most of the inner wood for the mortise joint then finish it properly with a hammer & chisel like ya'll are doing. great job making a proper home . TN🤠🤠🤠
It looks great! Y’all are a couple of hard working young adults!❤
And it's all on video to share with your kids one day !
Your videos always make me smile 😊. The gate looks awesome.
I like it “ that’s what he said “ 😁 y’all did good 👍🏻
The opening clip😂
It came out so nice! The fact that it’s wood from your land and made by the two of you make it special. Great work.
I only wish I had caught your little family as you began your container project but I'm certainly catching up as much as I can. I don't know what your other family situation is but surely they must be very proud of you both. I wish you all the best on every project you begin and will be watching until you are completly done with everything.
Waow Pink Floyd I like, my génération, I see a concert in France. Good day for you and take care you
Cody’s fav!
Love your show. And I love the wY you take care of each other. foreverness .
Looking good, am pleased with the progress you've both made, well done Cody and Summer, the end is in sight, then you can relax and start enjoying it 👍😁
Awh thank you so much Louise you are so kind! It is nice to sit back and look at everything every once in a while! Happy you are here!
New here. From the Wilds of Northwest Wyoming. Love to see a young couple working together, Can't wait to see what happens next. Have a Blessed and Merry Christmas.
You two are the best team. The ideas and solutions you come up with amazes me.. Never stop learning. You are doing great.
If you plan to do more mortise and tenon joints, I would suggest that you invest in a Forstner bit set to hallow out most of the waste wood from the mortise part of the joint. Just come back and clean up the edges with the chisel. It will speed up the process a lot. Keep up the good work and I enjoy your videos.
Love it looks like an Uncle Ted come and take it flag flyin with Old Glory🇺🇸👍
Its a Gonzales battle flag!
Cody, you need some pallet forks, and a man basket for your tractor. Also, you can chunk out a lot of wood from your mortise by using a paddle bit or a Forschner bit and remove a lot of the wood that way first.
Great video Cody and Summer
Wow. The two of you are amazing the hard work and positive attitude shows in everything you do. Thank you for sharing your lives with us.
Great job u two need more people in this world like y’all.Keep video coming.
LOL I swear Summer when you said you all were stopping to go out I thought ooo she's making 3 videos!
Anyway as always a great video & thank you for letting us inside you & Cody's lives!
Of all your videos (and I’ve watched them all) I think this is my favorite! The music, your blurb at the end, love it!
I'll be honest, cause I'm a straightforward and honest person. When I came across you'll channel a while back, I thought you'll were trying to hard to be like the Life Uncontained channel, boy was I wrong. A few videos in and you'll have a new fan in me. I truly dig you'll channel and yes, some guys do apologize when they are wrong. So I apologize for my assumption, you'll have such a great and unique channel! Wishing you'll nothing, but the best!
these kids make my heart smile
I really like that your first experience with a mortise is old school chisel only. This is the best way to become familiar with a chisel. but as others have pointed out here it is much faster to drill out center then clean up edges with chisel. ..also keep chisel razor sharp with a wetstone
AMAZING!!!! Great job planning, preparing, and getting “her” done!!!! You both get an atta girl and atta boy❤️stay healthy and keep getting it❤️❤️😊
Great work as always! We are actually about 10 minutes away so it’s awesome to see this happening in our own backyard! Good luck with the snow coming in the coming days!
You are two great kids. Be proud of yourselves. You are exceptional young folks , excellent achievements. Braco!!!🐷🐷🐖🐖🐕🐕🐥🐥🐓🐓🐇🐇🐃🐃🎯🎯🎄🎄🎀🎀🎁🎁🎂🎂🎉🎉💵💵💲💲👏👏👏👏👏👏

Incredible job y’all did!
Cute......"Talk to me Goose".......
Gets me every time!!! That's what she said 🤣😂😂
How did you know I'm on a cpap?. Lol great show to watch. Never watch TV any more.all the best guys
Wow, awesome work guys. My Dad was an engineer and love working with wood, he would have admired the precision in producing such a beautiful natural project. Creating things like that, and of course in time, creating life together is what being a couple is all about, think more marriages would last if people got that. Love you guys ❤️
A much easier method of cutting those mortises is to use a Brad point bit and drill overlapping holes the depth that you want your mortise. Then you can square the edges with your chisel. You can also use a forstner bit, however it doesn’t eject the waste as well as a Brad point bit does.
Best memories ever, looks amazing. You guys are doing amazing work. Keep warm and stay safe. Love Pink Floyd!! One of my favorite bands back in the day and still is. My grandkids listen to them now. Hope you enjoyed date night. Happy Holidays to you and your families. 🎄🎅🏻🤶🏻
WWHOW WHOWThis is an amazing feat and so proud of you both for doing this awesome job. YOU ARE A MATCH MADE IN HEAVEN AND CONSTRUCTING THIS DID MORE FOR YOUR MARRIAGE AND LIFE LONG SUCCESSES THEN YOU WILL EVER UNDERSTAND, CONGRATULATIONS

you guys are really special people. I always enjoy your work and look forward to the next video
Glad you enjoyed the show, I truly enjoy watching your videos.
Looks great !!! Getting cold this week for us Missourians stay warm and merry Christmas
Also you might consider putting some 45 degree angle brackets on either end to keep it from racking. I also love those Spax lag screws that you can drive with a driver to pin those mortise and tenons together.
You two are so articulate!! You don’t hesitate when explaining anything. I love your videos and watching you both navigate life and work together so lovingly. You do great work! Excellent team. Keep it up! I can’t wait for the next video. ❤️🤪
Love your flags!
