Actually those who built 1/10 Yamato were the real ship builders. For example, wood plates on the deck were made by just one professional, I heard. It is worth visiting.

You guys and gals had the guts,the tools,the time,money,sheer amount of imaginations and patience and amazing hand skills and technic to build something,anything from scratch and or from nothing into something so beautiful and useful which i didnt have..😢😅 Respect😊👍🏾

I have always mourned the loss of Yamato. I can only imagine how it would feel to walk her decks. She can only be described as magnificent and inspiring by anyone looking upon her. She may have been our enemy, but beautiful at the same time.
US Navy vet here. I was amazed the boat tour went so close to active duty self-defense force ships. That is a magnificent mock-up of the Yamato. The chrysanthemum crest is obviously made of gold. It will not corrode and the crest will forever gleam.

We were there in September last year . Japanese technology was amazing . We learnt that the engineers who built the Yamato later on were responsible for the building of the Shinkansen train
The most interesting story is the company which built main gun of Yamato made rotating restaurants after the war. There were some round shape restaurants which rotate on the top of the building so that the guests can see the whole scenery. I live in Kyoto. Near Kyoto station there is a hotel called Rihga Royal Hotel. This hotel has the rotating restaurant called French Dining Top of Kyoto.
As an American I have been to Japan six times for my company. I have always been impressed with Japaneses manners and commitment. Your country is so picturesque and clean and I have a hard time finding a trash can there! When I go home I see how we act and find it repulsive...This Museum never fails to inspire. Thanks for sharing...People need to see this magnificent ship presentation...Its engineering was magnificent! Have you seen the movie, The Great War of Archimedes? Its about the Yamato...I dont know if that was the real reason why the Yamato was built according to the movie, but sounds compelling...Japan's best and brightest was on that ship when she went down. A horrible loss...No young men should die in war...My heart sunk looking at the Yamato that day and what became of her...

@@lastsamuraikyoto I would love to go back to Japan, but its not in the cards sort of speak...I know of the Shinano...In the 1940s aircraft carriers were challenging the Battleship as the way to go, tactically speaking...but many in the Japaneses Imperial Navy were against carriers and wanted Battleships as the primary capital ship... When you see a ship like the Yamato, even as a model, I find it hard not to think Battleships are the true terror of the High Seas...they have a presents that cannot be matched by ANY other ship...unfortunately the Battleship days of glory were about done. The Yamato was the ultimate Battleship ever built and nothing will come close to her design again. As for the carriers, its ironic Japan proved at Pearl Harbor aircraft carriers ability to project power and take the lead as the ship of choice in Battle. As times change like in today ships aircraft carriers are vulnerable to hypersoinc nuclear tip missiles. And a need for a ring of formidable Fleet defense ships has to be implemented to insure the carriers survivability...
I can not help but notice how clean everything is. From the Yamato Museum to the naval ships and subs. The Captains and Crew of these ships are to be commended. The Japanese Navy is and always has been top tier! Thanks for the amazing tour.

the scale model of Yamato battleship is really great, it is also cool the cruise around the modern fleet nearby! I saw the movie 'Otoko-tachi no Yamato' , a good movie which shows how life was like on board of the battleship and how it was sunk thanks for the interesting video!

Really great video!!! I'm 68 and my generation built models of the famous ships, submarines, aircraft, tanks etc. of WWII. We could also discuss some of the battles because some military history was still taught in school, and we could order books about the war as well. I really enjoyed seeing the scale model of Yamato. It was a truly remarkable ship and should be remembered. Thank you for taking the time to make this video. If I ever get to visit Japan, I will be sure to make a trip to the museum.

The word Yamato is still used actually. For example when we have a national match of sports, we often say "Yamato damashii", which means the indomitable spirit of Japanese. Or we often call a beautiful Japanese girl Yamato nadeshiko. Thank you for watching Deep Japan channel.
Fascinating and excellently done! I am not Japanese but the moving story of the Yamato reminds me of “The Alamo” in my own US history- a heroic and suicidal defense against impossible odds but fought anyway. Very brave. This must stir the heart and soul of the Japanese people. I can understand this. I am a new fan.

While in the Navy 1977-1981 we had to pull intoYokosuka on the USS Ranger to have a new bow put on. We had struck a cargo ship in the straits of Malacca. I enjoyed the time there as we weren’t scheduled to go there. The USS Midway was based there.

Great tour. I've been a history buff since a child, and grew up around men who served in both theaters in WW2. When I was nearly 60, I got involved with World of Warships game, and Yamato was my first Tier 10 Battleship. Many of the old war heroes from all nations live on in this game - Bismarck, Enterprise, Hornet, Mushashi, Hood and many lesser known.

@@lastsamuraikyoto I am truly sorry but your warships are not toys for children or tourists. Your problem isn’t your constitution- it’s China. The U.S. has global commitments and can never send everything against China if something happens. China has home field advantage, numbers, and distances are short vis-a-vis Taiwan. Unfortunately, Taiwan can be taken and America driven out. Now, if that happens China will control the S. China Sea and sea lanes. That means a knife to Japan’s throat. So you are TOAST and that goes for S. Korea, Singapore, Philippines and everyone else in your neighborhood. Of coarse, your leaders know all this. Your only hope is to join forces with the U.S., S. Korea etc. BEFORE the U.S. is defeated. You really have no choice. So there goes your peaceful Constitution. This is what is going on. I guess peace never lasts forever. Too bad.

Very good video tour. My wife (who is from Osaka) has promised me next time we go back to Japan, we can visit Kure and the Yamato museum. By the way, I am also surprised that the harbor tour got so close to the submarines and the other warships. Thanks for your good work.
My wife’s grandpa spend sometime at Kure naval base weeks after the war ended. He took some pictures of a half sunken heavy cruiser, few destroyers, and mini submarines. We have those pictures now.

Visited the Kure naval port last year for their open day which was fantastic. Even tried the famous Marine Curry. Unfortunately missed going to the Yamato Museum so gives me a reason to go back again.

Admiral Ugaki's memoir gives a fascinating depiction of life onboard. At times the Yamato served as a reliable fuel provider for smaller warships when tanker boats couldn't get through.

What an amazing journey...i collect model scale of Battleship IJN Yamato, IJN Musashi, Carrier IJN Kaga, IJN Hiryu, IJN Akagi, IJN Zuikaku, Heavy cruiser IJN Mogami, IJN Mikuma, light cruiser IJN Yahagi and the smalest is Destroyer IJN Fubuki, I admire how people of Japanese Empire build their Navy before and during World War 2 (Pacific War 1941-1945), even finaly they loose and surrender to Allied Forces, but for me..they're still great nation...I wish someday i will visit The Yamato museum and Kure Naval Base.

I am fortunate enough to live near the USS Iowa’s permanent home in California, and the last generation of Battleships have a grace and majesty that I think will never been seen again. I also find it fascinating that the JMSDF retained the “Rising Sun” flag as their naval ensign, though I must admit that taken out of historical context, it’s far too great a design to not use.
They use Rising sun flag. It is the official flag of Japanese Maritime Self Defense Forces. But I try not to shoot it. Some people feel that it is the symbol of the empire. Anyway thank you for watching Deep Japan channel.

The above ground submarine is an actual decommissioned diesel submarine. Not a replica. It was moved there many years ago. You can walk through most of it as it is connected to the promotion building.

Unfortunately it had been moved to Kanoya, however I was really impressed by the models of the IJN fleet at the Tokyo Maritime Museum particularly the aircraft carriers. People in Kure knew the existence of Yamato because it stayed at Kure port for some years and it was called "Yamato hotel" as it did not move. but it was the top secret anyway. Thank you for watching Deep Japan channel.

Lack of fuel, mostly, stuck the ship in port for most of its life. It was the same in Italy and Germany, where the largest ships rarely could sail as fuel was needed for convoys and destroyer escorts
Great Ship, the best battleship even considering there at least two more modern classes around. Only mistake was not to make this class but for Japan to follow the British Empire model. But this ship in particular redeemed itself, paid all it’s sins... because it saved earth in 2199. I mean it, not in the real sense but for what it did in fiction: the people in Japan needed SBY back in 1974... I enjoyed it later in 78... and the remake of 2012 is a masterpiece. 2500+ killed, as IJN Yamato became a troop transport, during hours of intense bombing... no other ship class suffered as much, no other class can. “Steel Castles, at sea”... if we praise those castles at land made of mortar and stone... then we should pay our respect for all those who fought and are resting at the bottom of the ocean, regardless of which nation they served and honored

I am not Japanese but the moving story of the Yamato reminds me of “The Alamo” in my own US history- a heroic and suicidal defense against impossible odds but fought anyway. Very brave. This must stir the heart and soul of the Japanese people. I can understand this. I am a new fan.

I am planning to visit Mikasa near future.
While in the Navy 1977-1981 we had to pull intoYokosuka on the USS Ranger to have a new bow put on. We had struck a cargo ship in the straits of Malacca. I enjoyed the time there as we weren’t scheduled to go there. The USS Midway was based there.
Now George Washington is based at Yokosuka. It is still the millitary base of USA. Thank you for watching Deep Japan channel.

Great tour. I've been a history buff since a child, and grew up around men who served in both theaters in WW2. When I was nearly 60, I got involved with World of Warships game, and Yamato was my first Tier 10 Battleship. Many of the old war heroes from all nations live on in this game - Bismarck, Enterprise, Hornet, Mushashi, Hood and many lesser known.
These days many people learn history through games. There are feudal lords of Japan game and Japanese sword game, of course, Japanese imperial navy ship game. Thank you for waching Deep Japan channel.

Yamato. This ship has Legendary status in America as well as Japan. I built a model of her when I was a kid , in the 60s. I placed the model Next to USS New Jersey.

Makes me appreciate more the fact i can go see my countrys battleships still afloat in ports here in America from WW2. Most other countries had theres converted into coral reefs.

The U.S. has global commitments and can never send everything against China if something happens. China has home field advantage, numbers, and distances are short vis-a-vis Taiwan. Unfortunately, Taiwan can be taken and America driven out. Now, if that happens China will control the S. China Sea and sea lanes. That means a knife to Japan’s throat. So you are TOAST and that goes for S. Korea, Singapore, Philippines and everyone else in your neighborhood. Of coarse, your leaders know all this. Your only hope is to join forces with the U.S., S. Korea etc. BEFORE the U.S. is defeated. You really have no choice. So there goes your peaceful Constitution. This is what is going on. I guess peace never lasts forever. Too bad.

My wife’s grandpa spend sometime at Kure naval base weeks after the war ended. He took some pictures of a half sunken heavy cruiser, few destroyers, and mini submarines. We have those pictures now.

Visited the Kure naval port last year for their open day which was fantastic. Even tried the famous Marine Curry. Unfortunately missed going to the Yamato Museum so gives me a reason to go back again.
I also ate curry with the flag of the rising sun. I’ll check the date of the open day.

Admiral Ugaki's memoir gives a fascinating depiction of life onboard. At times the Yamato served as a reliable fuel provider for smaller warships when tanker boats couldn't get through.

What an amazing journey...i collect model scale of Battleship IJN Yamato, IJN Musashi, Carrier IJN Kaga, IJN Hiryu, IJN Akagi, IJN Zuikaku, Heavy cruiser IJN Mogami, IJN Mikuma, light cruiser IJN Yahagi and the smalest is Destroyer IJN Fubuki, I admire how people of Japanese Empire build their Navy before and during World War 2 (Pacific War 1941-1945), even finaly they loose and surrender to Allied Forces, but for me..they're still great nation...I wish someday i will visit The Yamato museum and Kure Naval Base.

Thank you for this excellent video. The model of Yamato is breathtaking. I am fortunate enough to live near the USS Iowa’s permanent home in California, and the last generation of Battleships have a grace and majesty that I think will never been seen again.
I also find it fascinating that the JMSDF retained the “Rising Sun” flag as their naval ensign, though I must admit that taken out of historical context, it’s far too great a design to not use.
They use Rising sun flag. It is the official flag of Japanese Maritime Self Defense Forces. But I try not to shoot it. Some people feel that it is the symbol of the empire. Anyway thank you for watching Deep Japan channel.

And the IHI Kure shipyard christened the ultimate containership at this time. 6800 TEU's of capacity

The above ground submarine is an actual decommissioned diesel submarine. Not a replica. It was moved there many years ago. You can walk through most of it as it is connected to the promotion building.

Unfortunately it had been moved to Kanoya, however I was really impressed by the models of the IJN fleet at the Tokyo Maritime Museum particularly the aircraft carriers. Irony that Yamato is famous nowadays when most Japanese people had no idea she’d even existed until after the end of the war.
People in Kure knew the existence of Yamato because it stayed at Kure port for some years and it was called "Yamato hotel" as it did not move. but it was the top secret anyway. Thank you for watching Deep Japan channel.

Yamato got that nickname when she was at Truk, which was where she spent most of her time-she didn’t spend all that much time at Kure.

Lack of fuel, mostly, stuck the ship in port for most of its life. It was the same in Italy and Germany, where the largest ships rarely could sail as fuel was needed for convoys and destroyer escorts

Great Ship, the best battleship even considering there at least two more modern classes around.
Only mistake was not to make this class but for Japan to follow the British Empire model.
But this ship in particular redeemed itself, paid all it’s sins... because it saved earth in 2199.
I mean it, not in the real sense but for what it did in fiction: the people in Japan needed SBY back in 1974... I enjoyed it later in 78... and the remake of 2012 is a masterpiece.
2500+ killed, as IJN Yamato became a troop transport, during hours of intense bombing... no other ship class suffered as much, no other class can.
“Steel Castles, at sea”... if we praise those castles at land made of mortar and stone... then we should pay our respect for all those who fought and are resting at the bottom of the ocean, regardless of which nation they served and honored
